I bought it yesterday, and I can tell it??s awesome. I??ve been playing with a trace elliot 150 combo, and it is very good, but doesn't offer as much as the laney. The equalizer is really good, easy to setup. I use it with a precision bass, en it really defines every single note, with a big fat tone but very precise. In the rehearsals y play a powerful rock/pop style, and put the gain and master in 5. never more. I only wish the compressor could be set up in the level you want.

great, I don't know if it's that incredible, I mean, it's not an 70's tube ampeg, but it sounds very very good, defines every note, but never loosing the low punch. almost noiseless when stand by.

I would definetly look for another one. I love it because of it's sound quality and it is not so heavy like others.

I bought this amp new 8 years ago, back in 1997. I been playing heavy rock and metal with it since then. It has all the settings that you would wish for a combo amp. Compressor, equalizer, low/high boost.
It does not have enough power to play with guitar half stacks, but you can crank it to the maximum when compressor is on. It will just do with a heavy handed drummer, but not with guitarists with half stacks and over 50W tube amps.

I play this with Ibanez EDB-500 and Big Muff. I think it distorts nicely, comparing the size when playing fuzz/vintage metal. There is not much variety with the sound when playing with the settings I have.

I played with this for almost 8 years when the speaker broke down. But it was because I had played with it for over a year with absolute maximum volume. I replaced the speaker with new 165W Laney speaker. I still trust this combo, it just that I had to put it through too much. Fortunately I have new, more powerful gear now.

I've been playing bass for 9 years and this was my second amp. I liked the thing, but it was just not enough powerful in the end. I'd recommend this to a starting bassist whose guitarist doesn't have too big gear. It's good combo overall.

Active&passive inputs, switchable compressor, hi&lo switches,6 graphic eq,2 param. eq, headphones jack, effects loop, 15" speaker HH loaded. I have a 5 string, although at low volume the B does not come out very clean, at about 50% it kicks ass!

With the equalizer on the combo, the sound can be varied from warm, deep 'bass' to the sharp slap sound. With the eq on my bass i can set up the sound i want to.

I play the amp only at home, so never at high volume. But I am pretty sure it would not disappoint me in small clubs. I say small, because you cannot expect from a 120 watt combo superior power...I dunno how old the amp is, but it did not break yet :-)

I am happy and proud to be an owner of this combo. It is quite small, not too heavy and produces great and powerful sound...
I would recommend it for anybody. To practice at home or small gigs.

I bought my BC120 4 years ago new as my first serious sized amp. I liked the easy to understand front panel which looking back helped me play around and discover what kind of bass sound I wanted. This may sound trivial to established players but this amp has let me experiment with everything from pop-punk, funk, low-end accoustic and classic british rock. Oh and too many switches and knobs take too long to learn.

My main instrument is a passive Aria 400, 5-6 years old. Set with the neck split coil full on, the BC gives me my classic rock sound I like. I scoop the mids and boost the bass and treble 2-3 notches. Try it. The onboard compressor should be relabel the speaker-saver as this is really its purpose. Set so that distorted bass/fuzz doesn't overload the cone. Use it.

4 years and loads of pub gigs later and it's still going strong. I haven't had any repairs and given the abuse I have put it through (Beer baths, van accidents, using it to win pub brawls) it still is my amp to use when portability matters. It's light and easy to lump around.

Dunno, It's too reliable.

It has all the limitations, sonically, of a 15' combo but hey. It's cheap as chips and a doddle to transport. I'd buy another if this one ever breaks on me.

This amp has a compressor (slthough not variable), Hi/low shelving, a grafic eq (6 or 8 bands, its not in front of me right now) and pre/post gains all solid state, 1/4" and XLR Direct outs, effects loop. and active/passice inputs... Just about everything you need.

Sounds killer at medium/high volumes with all my basses ibanez sr400 fretless '68 hagstrom 8 string and even my ibanez sr500 strung up B,E,A,D (sorry, I only have 3 fingers on my left hand and can't play a real 5 string). Sounds great with guitars too. The amp does break up at high volumes, but hey its a 15" combo amp. The only thing I did to it was stuff 2 bags of poly-fill in the cabinet to reduce standing waves. it does have a bit of hiss when you really crank up the highs. Sounds better than my SUNN 200s/2-jbl15" stack but not as loud

this amp takes a SERIOUS licking and keeps on ticking. Mine's been dropped, fallen over withstood direct speaker shorts (don't ask) and my 2 young daughters. All without ever even blowing the fuse
(I take that back, I had to fix the active input because the kids stuck a popcorn kernal in the jack, but that doesn't really count)

An awsome deal, sounds great, and bullet proof reliability. If this amp was ever stolen, I would hunt the person down and put them in a world of hurt, then take my amp back. Not quite up to high level preformances, but its a combo give it a break.

i no longer own my Laney BC120, as our band started playing through headphones or directly through the p.a. utilizing pre-amps. But the Laney BC120 was by far the greatest combo amp i ever owned. The tone was fantastic, and although you did have to unplug the jack in the back to use headphones with the unit, it was powereful for the music we played (loud, heavy, and fast-pre black album metallica type stuff). I would suggest this amp for anyone looking for a solid, punchy bass sound.

This amp performs very well for the price. I use it mostly for praise music at the church (although we are all ex-rockers and usually crank it pretty good) and old time rock-n-roll stuff with some friends. It is single channel with an effects loop. The shelving is very good. It has the standard bass and treble gain book-ending a six band graphic EQ.
The built-in low Z DI is very cool. Although there is no line-out gain which would certainly help with controlling stage volume. But then again, this is a $300 amp.
It's fairly small and light. (which is why I bought it) In fact the enclosure may be a little too small for the 15" speaker. I lined the cabinet with batting which has helped a great deal.
The built-in compressor is functional but you would probably go with an external one if compression was really your thing.
You have to manually unplug the speaker to kill the external sound when using headphones, but I guess that's really quibbling.

I use this amp with a newer model Washburn bass that has twin humbucking pickups. The amp has an input to handle the active pickups and the EQ really does the bass justice. I prefer the ultra-clean sound of solid state and this amp is quiet as a mouse even at high volumes. Especially if you are used to old tube heads. With the EQ, the seperate gain and master volume and the high and low boost, this amp can handle a variety of sounds. I can even boost the gain enough to get it a little luzzy if I want to. It even makes the old Ric' sound like an old Ric'.

Typical solid state stuff. I use it 2-3 times a week and it has never blinked. I don't even carry a back up.

When I bought the amp (used) I e-mailed Laney to get some additional info. In a week, I received the owner's manual and a bunch of stickers that were in the original sales package. They also sent me literature on the HC120B (which replaces the BC120) and a little rubber cap to replace one that was missing from one of the EQ posts. All this along with a nice letter explaining the production life of the amp. Very cool of them. All free and FAST!!

I started out 15 years ago with a Peavey TNT 100 and went all the way to a full stack Ampeg SVT 200. This amp is pretty close in tone to the SVT, although the Ampeg was bettered featured (at 5 times the price). For the price, this amp is outstanding. I played everything that I could buy for less than $600 and carry on stage in one trip and nothing came close to the Laney. If it had a variable line out, I would call it perfect. If it were stolen tomorrow, I would search till I found another one.

This amp is all I need for playing. It obviously has enough features to give me whatever sounds I want because I get whatever sounds I want! It has a headphone jack and inputs for active and passive pick up basses. It is a solid state amp, and has plenty of power to play a show (a show being an indoor concert). There is an equilizer, and bass and treble tuners. There is also a gain and volume.

I play a crappy Peavey Milestone II, and it sounds great through this amp. It has one split pick up. I play punk and hardcore, and it gives a nice high poppy tone, and a nice low drone tone. The amp has no buzzing when there is no playing. It is very quiet. The amp can make sounds from very poppy to low drowning tones. So this amp is great for punk and hardcore. It is probably good for alternative and classic rock too. At high volumes the amp has no distortion and sounds great.

This amp is as solid as a rock. I have had it for about a year or two and it hasn't broken down or even started to have any problems. I have played this amp at a couple of gigs without a backup at extremely high volumes. The amp performed greatly.

I give this amp a perfect rating because for what I play, and what I have played with it, it has made my peice of crap bass sound awesome. I have been playing for about 4 years, and own a Peavey MicroBass amp, and a Peavey Milestone II bass. If my amp was stolen, I would definately buy another one, this amp is great! I love the way it sounds. I can get any kind of sound I want out of it. This amp has beaten the socks off of any amp I have ever bought!
