Just came across this while trying to find a review for a Carlsbro Reactor 400 Head I am thinking of buying. I have used my Laney Linebacker 100, with a home made 2x15 Bass speaker as a ptactice amp for over a year. The amp is fairly old (about 8-10 years at a guess, but is well built and suits my uses for it perfectly. It has 2 channels, Hi (for me, using a Fender Precision) and Lo (for my Alesi Drum Machine), volume, gain and presence controls. Full specs are listed in other reviews above. Everything is easy to use, and above all is user friendly, even having so many years on it, and everything is still operating smoothly, and for this reason, I give it an 8 out of 10.

I rate it as great for practice. I play Brit Rock, some progressive stuff and some other, slow songs (Paul Weller, Keane) and it copes well, though this is used just for practice, I gig with something else. The sound it gives is clear, but my guitarist uses a Fender Valve Amp, and this just seems a lot brighter than the Laney. I bought this through eBay from a student who played a digital drum machine through it. This amp has been used and abused and still sounds excellent! Even on full whack, there is only a slight distortion, and this could be caused by my homemade stack.

Never has any dealings, and I reckon by now, any warranty will have well expired.

This is my practice amp and for the size of the practice room, it is excellent. For gigging in larger venues, I would go for something meatier (I use a Torque B200 for pubs and clubs), though I am looking at maybe getting a Carlsbro 400w Reactor stack. For the price I paid, I just don't think any oter head can compare, though if you put a thousand pound head against it, you would note the difference, but value-wise, just excellent. If you can get a half decent one for less than 80 quid (that works) chances are it will be a great head.

I bought my LB 100 Bass Amp new in 1987 and I still have it and use it in 2002. I am currently playing in a pro classic rock band 1960-present. This amp has the standard hi and lo gain inputs, FX loop, DI out, headphone out, and 1/4 spkr outs. On the front panel there is a limiter switch that is a close approximation to a real limiter- on a budget. The pre-shape switch is (as far as I'm concerned) the key to th amp. When it is on it cuts the mid and boosts the low and hi in just the right amount to give the bass the amount of punch, tone, and drive. The presence control doesn't do too much on this amp, the way I use it, except contribute to unwanted feedback. The Mid parametric EQ does an awful lot toward shaping the tone, both good and bad. To get the best sound out of my amp, I cut the gain to -2 and sweep the mid to 7. The Bass and Treble controls are completely useless with the pre shape on, and always stay flat at 5. This amp is, and always will be, I believe, my workhorse amp for the folloiwing duty: A Bass Pre-amp. I use it as my shaping sound for Bi-weekly practice, for my Direct injected Bass sound for recording, and for my shaping and stage sound for live shows. Because there are only 100 watts of solid state power, there is no way of using the LB 100 as anything other than a pre-amp for pro or semi-pro situations.

The bass I use is a custom Liberty curly maple body with bolt-on Stu-Mac neck and EMG P Bass p'up. I also use a Zoom 506 Bass Pedal to tweak the sound before the amp. This pick up is arguably the standard of modern bass playing and it is right at home with this Bass amp. I have never heard any interference or RF noises in 15 years of using this amp with EMG's. As far as the versatility of sounds from the LB 100, I currently use it to get a wide pallette of bass sounds for our current set list which includes old favorites such as Simple Man, Hotel California, and Hey Joe to heavy metal songs like Paranoid, Evenflow, and Seek and Destroy to newer songs like Sober, Give it Away, and a song we just picked up this week, The South Park Theme Song (by Primus).

I have used my LB 100 for 15 years as a practice amp, a DI recording amp, and a stage amp, and it has never needed to be serviced, although I am very particular about keeping dust and other foreign material away from my amp even on stage, and I follow careful proceedures in caring for my amp in use.

If I had to start over again (on a limited budget)I would find myself one of these Bass amps because it can reproduce SO MANY SOUNDS so simply.
I have to admit that if I had to choose a Bass amp other than this to satisfy all the sounds I need to reproduce for our classic rock band I don't know what else would work as well. The Ampeg is good for heavy metal and punk and the Fender Bassman is good for vintage and there are quite a few others like GK that work for prog but I am veeeery used to the broad sound I get with my Laney.

1980 I think
yes the amp will kick I play in church but also at home do a great deal of funk and slap. It is two channel. I wish it had a low z out ?I don't use the toggles they wimp your sound out to much. I use this at home most but if need be I am sure it would kick if need be. Plenty of power although I get a little distortion at real high volumes I think because the kid I got it from was a Metal Head and probably used this very hard.It is solid state but is pretty nice actually better than peavey combo I had those really sound crappy!!!

I use a fender P bass standard no mods . It is nice and clean and if need I slap the crap out of it and it still sounds good. You cant tell It is on. even on high settings. Yes at real loud volumes it distorts at about 3 oclock? It sounds bad but 12:00 oclock it is nice did I say nice? The distortion at high volumes is not that bad it is alot better than crate junk I mean amps.

Laney Linebacker 100w Head, it has effects loops, head phone jacks, 2 quad box outputs, hi and lo inputs, equalizer, and your standard additional controls. I use it with a Quad Box (4x 12), and its plenty loud enough for even full on drummers and sounds really good along side Marshall Stacks.

I use it with a yamaha bass (rbx series). Its a really nice sounding bass, weather you need want allot of bass, or not much at all. My bass guitar has shitty pickups so that doesnt help, but ive used it with great pickups and ultimately this amp sounds mighty fine. I play in a punk band, so maybe im a bit byass with the quality because i tend to ignore perhaps less positive sounds
