Features : 10
This is a 300 watts bi-amping bass head, presumably made in the 80's or early 90's. Not much info on the net. At first glance it looks like a black Trace Elliot rip-off. On the front panel from left to right: active and passive inputs, input gain with 3-led indicator, 2 preshape knobs, one graphic switch and connection for footswitch (I did not use a footswitch yet) 11 band graphic equalizer with eq-balance, limiter, noisegate, fx-loop in/outm otput volume, phones and balanced Direct-In with pre-eq/post-eq switch. Backside: power switch (I much rather would have that on the front!) low pass and high pass speaker outputs (2x150 watts) Line out per channel (775mV/0dBm), FX-loop per channel, biamping-bridge mode switch, balance and frequency pots, bridge mono output.
Inside are two completely separated power stages.
I use this mainly in bridged mode on a Hughes and Kettner BH4x10, but occasionally bring in the 1x15 Trace box for biamping.
Features enough.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds.. uh.. clean. Low. I do not use the most expensive basses on it, (I am a guitarist) a Cort Curbow fretless 5 string and a Yamaha BB605 fretted. I also own a Trace Elliot 130watt (or so) head with 7bang graph. The trace sounds much fatter. Not as low. The laney has incredible headroom, though. The combination with 4x10 Hughes and Kettner and 1x15 Trace is loud enough to play in larger venues. If you crank the highs on the graph it gets noisy, but that is to be exprcted. Noisegate does its job well, limiter is somewhat.. uh.. limited. There are three effect loops (!?) have only used the one on the front until now, it is working fine. Laney guitar amps have a reputation for useable effect loops. Balanced direct out did not work for me. Had to crank the preamp of the mixer (D&R, VERY fine mixers) up to the top, lots of noise, hardly any sound.
All in all, for a cheap amp head, not bad. It is a matter of taste. Plenty of headroom anyways. I guess it is more of a 'hifi' head and has little sound colorization, as opposed to Ampegs. I think the head lets your choice of bass prevail soundwise.

Reliability : 10
It's a tranny head and will live forever. Housing is VERY sturdy. No cooling fan. Heavy little head. I think it will do better than the Blacklights on the Trace Elliots which always seem to be broken!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with the company. No user manual on the website though. There is hardly any info to be found on the net. It's a shame. These amps can be had for peanuts and their quality is high. The typical Laney issues (bad tube amp output transformers) seem not to be the case on this head.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
It is a good allround bass amp head. Road ready. Plenty of headroom. It can take on a double bass drummer on steroids with ease. (depending on your speaker setup) Doesn't 'colour' the sound. I am starting to believe these amps are a well kept secret, like some Laney guitar stuff.
