Sound Quality : 9
Sound!?

If you bought a SWR...you paid too much to get alot less than you could have.

Basically, I can get a sound similar to an Ampeg, Bassman, Trace, SWR and even a Mesa with virtually no efforts.

Beware, this ain't no 400 watts monster but it can put to shame any drummers for small to mid size gigs. At home, the volume never goes past 3, it's very loud for a 100watts...more than that will either bring your house down or get you kicked out the house by your girlfriend, which ever comes first!!

The amp itself at flat has a sound very similar to an Ampeg, growly and aggressive. Very good amp for Rock and the like. However, this is were it gets interesting, you can also get a very good sound ala SWR for R&B or Funk. Very very very versatile amp.

One downer, the tweeter is somewhat of offensive. It's noisy, it's bright and aggressive, and it's in your face...I mostly keep it off unless I play deep low end bass to bright back some definition to the low E.

As for the cab, rattles and buzzes...for the first time ever the amp, stock, out of the box had NONE!!! I've seen Ampeg SVT's with bad cases of buzzing more than once but this little bastard...HAD NONE!!! Laney did a wonderful job with the R2.

This amp gets a 9 because of the average tweeter.

Reliability : No Opinion
Reliability...I am yet to see a Laney die. However, giging without a backup!? You have to be nuts...

I've had this amp for 4 months and not trouble at all. Too soon to talk about reliability on my part but I know a few people who have abused this amp beyond anything imaginable on stage and there amp never gave out.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never delt with them, and probably never will.

Overall Rating : 10
