Laney R5 210 Combo

I play in a Boogie Blues band, and it suits me fine....WITH THE R115 EXTENSION CAB.
On its own ( 150W )it can just about cope with rehearsals, no more.
You get the full power, and sound ( 300W )with ext cab.
It`s very versatile in sounds, from booming to tight punchy, just take yourself some time to sort the controls.
I use it with a Fender fretless Precision, and a Sting 51 Precision, both sound great.

The first one I bought had to go back to Laney, due to the fan not working at all, got VERY hot, but the fan seems ok on this second one , though a bit noisy.

Laney have been very helpfull to any questions I have asked, be it they are little slow in replying.

I used to use a Hartke 3500, with 2 1x15 cabs, too heavy !!!!
This set up is nice and light, small, but can still bang it out when needed.
Would replace it if it got stolen.

I use my R5 with a cheap Shine SB-35 5 string active bass,sounds are rich in all areas,I play in a country rock outfit but the drummer is from a rock background-on it's own the R5 is weak and cannot compete with him,but use the extension speaker option and couple it with a decent 15" (8 ohm) sub cab it kicks ass and the claimed 300 watt seems more likely.I also use a 10 band graphic to enhance the lower register and the result is very pleasing,Previous setups were a peavey TNT130 and Marshall Superbass 100 with 2x 10 and 1 x 15 and this setup is a lot sweeter sounding and definetly more grunt when required.

Only owned for 6 months but have gigged a dozen times and rehearse every week and so far so good........

I have emailed Laney prior to buying my R5 and after purly with technical questions and they have been very propmt to reply and appear very helpful.

I have played bass for approx 10 years and am very pleased with the package the R5 offers,If stolen I would replace it with the same again.I sometimes wish it were rated for 2ohms like some of it's competitors giving me the option of another cab in those larger venues.And as stated before a headphone output would help for home practice.I have seen other reviews that complain about a lack of volume I recommend you try the R5 with an extension cab bringing down the load to 4 ohms I think you'll be impressed.
