CLASSIC BRITISH TONE
Simply great, Good for all. After many years playing i've found a amp that goes everywhere, since warm blues to harder rock or pop. I guess you can play all kind of music with this amp. I barely play funk or heavy, but should be no problem for play with this Laney. Actually, almost all amps can play any kind of music if you know how to set it up, but not all amps can reach this sad-british tone.
Amazing sound with my Laney cabinet "15 loaded with Celestion speakers (british too). Far from cold/modern/metalic sound, this RB9 has a great classic tone perfect for expression and feeling with bass. Playing properly, sounds dark, sad and punchy, but never loosing it's good quality sound.
In my opinion, much better than many other amps wich i know and have played once, some on its range of price, as the Ashdown MAG300, Warwick, Hartke 2500 or G-K, or even amps of bigger price. The RB9 it's a lovely surprise.
The most i like is that with it's 7 band eq. it can make a bigger presence of the middle/high registers without make them sound metallic. Best partner for my Fender Precision 79'
Lovely option to send your signal to the mixing desk through the DI (clean signal) or by the FX Send, with all tone corrections and sound of the RB9. By the D.I the sound that goes to the table it's your bass sound, witout the amp tone. The sound of this amp its really worthy, for this reason i prefer to send it by the FX Send.

Lovely

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems by now, at all. Had it for 1 year, playing everyday, many gigs and long road trips.
Looks really solid and strong, you could think it's a Peavey if there was no Laney written on it. Black carpet covered, no plastic.
Laney its well known for make very strong amps.

No rating by now, but i guess won't have problems with the RB9 for really long time. 100% trust

After 12 years playing bass and many amps, i can say this amp it's really a precious at unbeliable price, i'm not missing any of my old amps. Many people won't look at this amp due it's middle price and will take something in bigger price. A mistake in my opinion. Once taste the RB9, don't want another one.
Laney is doing sth really good about bass amps, it looks like they try to find their place in this forgotten market. Laney is well known and respected for guitar players, but i don't know why, not so famous into bass amps.

i really dont know what else i would want on an amp. maybe more than one channel. but to be honest its perfect for me. it doesnt have a head phone jack, but why would you by such a powerfull amp if you wanna use headphones?

Sound Quality : 9
i use a thunderbird equiped with 2 bass lines soapbars (hums) and a fender jazz standard (single coils). i find that both basses sound great, but with the thunderbird it sounds amazing. it is so versitile. you can play heavey, slap, jazz and even sounds great with a pic (which is my usuall style).

i use a custom marshall 1x15 and a custom carlsbro 1x15 both loaded with black widows. its is amazingly loud but does not distort the sound at all. its very clean and there is no hiss. at home i cant take it about 2 with out everyone in my house shouting at me. ive also used it with a marshall 4x10 which also sounded good.

this amp can handle anything i use a lot of effects, distortion, fuzz, synth as well as huge walls of reverb and everything sounds great. the compressor stays on all the time as it does a fantastic job. and the limiter stops me blowing up my cabs.

i dont know whether it distorts when you turn it on full, due to the fact i have never needed to go that loud

Reliability : 9
its solidstate so is pretty much indisrtucatble, unlike tube amps.

Never needed any thing done :)

ive been playing around 5 years. before this is used an old marshall amp, it was ok but just cant handle half the the traumor i force upon this amp. compared to the laney its nothing. i run through a line 6 bass pod xt then into the amp rather than using the fx loop. i just prefer it that way.

i compared this to some of the ampeg rackmount amps in my local shop and i have to say i cant tell the difference. The reason it was so cheep is due to production being in china. the place of manufacture doesnt make much difference to amps unlike guitars.

Laney has always been affordable but fantastic, its good to see they keep getting better

Made in 2006
Effects loop
Tuner out
300w into 4ohms
Solid State
Fantastic compressor function
Gain control

Sound Quality : 9
I use an active bass with the humbucker pickup on full. Through a 4 x 10 this head sounds so clear and really brings out the tone in the instrument. The punch of this amp blew me away.

Gain control can give it some real growl which sounds great for rock and metal but also goes all the way to distorted bass (reminds me of "all around the world- rhcp")

I think this could suit any style of music due to its versatility.

Havent had it long but it seems very solid, wooden and has Laney written on it.

Compared to my old 1x15 combo, this is so clear and punchy. Absolutely no mud here.

Laney are doing something right to churn out heads of this quality at less than ??200 and still make profit.

I would of liked to see a "shape" knob as on Hartke's and Behringer bass amps, but just for simplicity. The EQ is perfectly capable of making all those sounds without one.
