ok....this is a 1984A bass cab. it has 4-100 watt celestion heavey duty speakers. i used to push this cab with a jcm800 100 watt dual channel head......it was the only head out at the time that could drive this cab.

These cabinets were made in the early JCM800 era...80-82 and were intended for use with the JCM800 Bass heads...I forget their model number off the top of my head. It's basically the same cab size and look as a regular 1960 slant cab. The difference being, it's loaded with Celestion 80 watt speakers. I think it's a very cool bass cab as it's got a bit more boom than the all too overused and copied 4x10 cabs that everyone thinks they need these days. It also is much tighter than a 2x15 cab as well. I think it's a great mix of the two for rock, or louder types of music. It's wired, as most were back then as a 16ohm cab. Each speaker is 16 ohm, so you could easily rewire it to be a 4ohm cab if you'd prefer. I think I might do that to this one so I can easily use some of my older Ampeg and Fender heads that work at 4ohm. Features? What features do you want on a cab? It's got an input jack and it makes noise....that's about it.

It sounds really good to me. I've got a bunch of other cabs to compare it to like vintage Sunn cabs, Ampeg new and old and this one really rocks. Like most Marshall's, it really sounds best when driven hard...a little growl from the amp really, really sounds good on this cab. The clean tones sound nice too...not mushy, not overly tight...just right.

It's over twenty years old now...the tolex is coming off, some of the handles are cracked a bit and most of the back screws have been replaced as well as two of the casters. Does any of this matter to the tone...no. It's holding up great.

If happen to be lucky enough to run across one of these...get it. You won't be sorry. They don't pop up often as these came out at a time when all the little Hartke and GK and others were starting to make a big push, so they didn't do very well. Probably because they were more expensive than those others. Most people don't think of Marshall as being bass amps, but remember, that's how they got their start. I'd love to find a mate to this one, but I can't imagine the stage volume with another.
