Product: Peavey 410T Bass Cabinet
Price Paid: US $250 used

My cab had no tweeter attenuator and a smaller rear port than the 410tx, however the cab didn't unload at high volume/low frequency to and all playing conditions.

Sound Quality : 8
I wanted to get a bit more tweeter output but without an attenuator I had to accept the design.

Reliability : 8

Wasn't Needed.

Selling it to switch to the 410TX just to gain the Tweeter Attenuator was a mistake because the 410TX unloaded at the same volume/low-end where the 410T held solid ground. I stacked it on top of one of my Sunn 215B cabs with a PV MAX BASS head @ Malcolm X/ old Meridian Hill park in D.C. and the amp was clear 300 feet ahead.

4X10 rear-ported, with (am I wrong?) a Fostex horn, back panel attenuator control knob, and Kevlar-impregnated drivers (which just SOUNDS good!) Black duratex carpet cover, metal corners, big handles. 1/4" inputs only. 14 gauge wiring inside with fiberglass batting. I added casters.

At about 90 pounds, it's a real bitch for a geezer like me to get up and down the basement steps. That's the only negative; -1.

Sound Quality : 10
A 1995 Bass Player magazine did a shootout with 4X10 bass cabs under $1000, and several blindfolded experts thought this Peavey was a $999 Eden or SWR. My first 4X10 was a Carvin, so when I tried out the Peavey for the first time, I almost wept! Thunderous, rich lows, beautiful mids. The Carvin is now a cat-scratching post.

I've experimented with a 15" and 18" cab in conjunction with the Peavey 410T, but it's never added enough woomph to make me buy one.

Quite a few times, I've had good bassists come up to me at gigs, and comment on how good my bass rig sounds (G&L 2500 bass, Ampeg 350H head). I'm not a great player, but the Peavey helps me sound that way.

Reliability : 10
My cab's five years old. Utterly dependable. Forget about it.

Again, respectable bass players have told me my rig sounds impressive. From a blind audio taste-test, the Peavey could be in the same league as bass audiophile equipment, only it was hundreds less.

Equipment geeks probably aren't impressed unless they see a David Eden or SWR logo. But in a club situation, when I dip down into that low D, and it melts ear wax and messes up the hair of the audience, they dig it. At $400, it's a great bass cab.

Anyone want a Carvin, cheap?

This is a rear-ported bass cabinet, 4x10" speakers with a tweeter. Dunno when it was made, but it obviously predates the 410TX. Easily handles the extension cab duties from my Crate BX100 combo bass amp.

Sound Quality : 9
Used with the aforementioned BX100. It's punchy, solid, clear and loud. Many bassists have used it in both jamming & gigging situations, and all but one love the sound (and that one guy really doesn't know what he's doing lol). Fenders, Ricks, cheapos, even a Chapman Stick have been played thru that system and all sounded great. Used for rock, prog, jazz.

Reliability : 10
I got it used. It has a few minor dings but shows no sign of problems.

I wasn't out looking for this thing when I got it. But there it was, priced to go.... so I figured I'd see whether it worked with the BX100. They go together perfectly! The Peavey 410T cab adds punch and crispness to the BX100's versatile tone and solid bottom. The bassist in my band loves the sound; he often uses my rig instead of his (much more expensive) system.

I do wish it were front-ported, but that is a very minor issue - and the rear port sometimes improves the sound in small clubs.
