It has a lot of features for its size. It has an eight-band EQ, bright and punch pulls on the pre- and post-gain pots, effects loop, crossover (for use with a second amp), and power amp input. It has a jack for an external speaker cabinet on the back. Matched to an external 4-ohm cabinet it's capable of the full 300 watts. Versatility is great - I've used it mainly for church music, but it also gets worked out on Rush covers once in a while with friends. Plenty of power for most any working gig.

Sound Quality : 8
Very good sound. Decent brightness for a single 15" speaker. Can produce a very warm tone and has plenty of power to puch out the staccato stuff. I use a Kramer (model 4002, I believe) aluminum-neck bass with active EMG pickups.

Reliability : 8
I'd give it a 10 except that one time just before a studio session it developed a weird crunchy-static sound that appeared any time the heat sink on the back got bumped or if the cabinet was moved around. Vibration from playing also seemed to trigger the static at times.

Luckily I was able to fix it myself. I just opened her up and proceeded to pull then re-seat each of the electrical connectors attached to the main circuit board (yes it was unplugged...) and that cured it. Must have been some oxidation on the pins. That was six years ago and no problems since.

I contacted Peavey through their web site once - probably around 1998 - to ask about availability of owners manuals. A couple of weeks later I got one in my mail box free of charge! That blew me away. Great service, especially for an old amp.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Mmmm... I play a 14-pound bass through a 90-pound amp. Both made in the 80's. I'm not sure what that means but I can tell you the sound is great. The biggest drawback to the Combo 300 is its weight. Mine didn't have casters when I bought it, so that was its first and only modification - a set of wheels. Some advice: if you add casters, get at least two of the kind that lock and put them on the front so you can kick the lock down with your toe once the amp's in the spot you want. If I ever lost this one, I'd probably jump on e-bay and look for another Combo 300.

I don't know much about this thing really- All I know I learned in this amp's previous review after I bought it...

Sound Quality : 9
Well, to be honest, I run my Fender amp's effects out into the Peavey for gigging volume. It really boosts my distortion and gives it a great tone (without blowing up my Fender's speakers). I've tried running my Hohner jazz bass on this, and it's worked just fine, but when tweaked for my guitar, it's phenominal. Epiphone Les Paul Standard, by the way, and Fender Power Chorus.

Reliability : 10
I bought it hella cheap and used- but it's from the years when Peavey ruled- the 80s. I've not had an inch of trouble with any of their stuff from this era... check that- I did have a fuse blow on my Peavey power amp...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to mess with em cuz none of my Peaveys have ever ever broken. Sure, they have some of the suckiest guitar tone by themselves, but for sound reinforcement they're gold.

Overall Rating : 10
I got it for SO cheap I suspect it was perhaps not quite "legally attained"... but hey, what I don't know won't hurt me. Anyway, aside from the fact that it's extremely heavy, it's been awesome for me. If it was lighter, I'd use it more, but it's a small price to pay for the great volume and tone transformation of this baby. I've always believed that bass amps were better power amps than guitar amps... If all of your effects come from pedals and not from on board your amp, grab any bass amp- it's way better, I promise. Conversely, I've heard some intense bass guitar tone from some guitar stacks. Mostly from Kustom, but that's another review.

This combo was made in the late 80`s I think. It is great for rock`n roll, whitch I play. And concerning slapping it is also great, if you use a compressor - it has a very clear bright soound. I never use the pre amp out/in because I have never needed...
It certanly have the power enough to play anywhere.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender jazz, and Sting Ray 5 string bass. It has a big variety in bright sound and punchy sound. I haven`t found any distortion in the volumes I needed (volume 6-7)

Reliability : 8
It is a safe amp, I have never needed any backup amp so far.....

Customer Support : 4
I have never needed service, no more than small adjustments - like changing fuse, adjusting cables to the horn.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for 15 years, and also own a Carvin amp with EBS speaker (500w and 15") Most I love the clear bright sound and the punchy bottom. Maybe I wish it weighted a bit less.

I also bought this amp in the late 80's and really like the nice warm sound plenty of punch even for some of the larger clubs.
I also play keys and run a key bass thru it as well.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a gibson victory bass with active pickups and have more than enough versatility with sound,I have played country rock music for the life of this amp and longer.

Reliability : 10
I bought this amp new and have never had a problem with except the speaker developed a small rip in the cone,I have another one on the way from a local music store. Just the basket is about 100.00 dollers,
other than that flawless, one other thing this amp has always done was after I shut it off and wait a few seconds it make a little squeek sound, just curious if this is a trade mark or just my amp?

Customer Support : 5
never went to a dealer never had to. just a local music store for the speaker.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing about 20 years and this is only my second amp,
when it just keeps on working and sounds good why buy another one,
although if I was to buy something I might try something new just because Ive had it so long, but I might be sorry if I do.
The only effect I use is a compressor once in a while for a nice warmer sound, usually on a melodic slow tune.

I do not know when it was made, but i have bought it 1988 and it was brand new. 210W is more than enough for me. That plus 8 eqs are the most prominent features it has got. I have always missed the headphone jack, though.
And yes, I have never used the crossover section properly. The manual does not say much about it,so unfortunately I never payed much attention to it. The effect loops are OK,but I always had the feeling they should influence the effect in a less noticable way.

Sound Quality : 8
It is a great amp for tame musicians. Not especially good for slapping.

Reliability : 10
Never had the slightest problem with it and I bet I never shall.

Customer Support : 1
Fortunately never had to get it repaired, otherwise... Never managed to find an authorized service! That is, as far as the East coast of Adriatic sea (Mediteranean)is concerned. The closest one is in Italy!

Overall Rating : 8
For the past 13 years, I have been playing on and with an old Fender Precision.I have no need for a better amp, but in case Id have to make a new choice, Id go for something fresh and new, an emulator maybe (POD or something)

I have an '87 model and really love the features.. Pre and Post eq, crossover, hi and lo imput, 8 band eq..

Sound Quality : 9
I am running a Soudgear 5 sting and love the sound. I can't punch it too much but having the DDT compression there to cut away and some hard hits always helps..

Reliability : 9
Never had a problem.. Then again, I am not the original user but just looking at the thing and thinking 1987! That is crazy in itself..

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 2 years or so and so far I am happy with the gear.. The only problem I have with it is that it is really, really heavy.. Try 87 pounds ! Overall, a great bass amp, great sound and great options..

I sold this to a friend because i had just bought a Marshall silver anniversity 900 series bass stack with 2-15 and 4-10 cabs, thru a credit union auction I played the Marshall for one gig apologizing the entire time to the rest of my band because the Marshall sucked compared to the Combo 300

Reliability : 10
never had a problem

never called

I went out and bought a Mark IV head and a 1820 cab kind of like a combo 300 on steriods. But I miss the combo 300 and will buy another one someday, i used to run the high frequencies out of the crossover into a classic chorus 130 guitar amp and it was a beautiful sound, it never had a real SVT type sound, the tubey rumble but thats not this amp's gig any way, it is the best all around versatile inexpensive find all day long used amp for bass
