I'm guessing this is a late 80's amp. Wide range eq with high and low sweeps. Built in chorus and compression. Also a cooling fan, a heavy solid state amp. Built in crossover, that can run two external amps works good for running stereo. plenty of power with two 1/4in output speaker jacks.

Sound Quality : 8
I've had this amp about 12 years and never had a problem dialing in a good tone. I've used a fretless, 5 string with active, 4 string with actives, 4 string passive high end and crappy basses all of which all could be dialed in to get a tone that would cut though any band sitution. The chorus was ok as was the compression, I found that an external pedal always sounded better.

Reliability : 10
This is a WORKHORSE. 12 years and never a problem. Took it out of the case once to blow out the dust and it looked very well taken care of. I live in Phoenix AZ and practised in a wherehouse without a/c, 110 outside and never had any problems. Never needed a back up with this one. The only time it didn't work was at a gig where the house power supply had a short and blew the fuse in the back of the amp. 2minutes later a new fuse and a different outlet the amp was back in action.

I bought this amp used, called Peavey headquarters and asked for an owners manual. They sent me out one free of charge.

I just sold this amp to upgrade my rig. If I had a chance to buy anouther one I would. This is a great amp for someone on a budget that wants a relible, powerfull, durabible amp. I have USED it from 1992-2004, and it always gave me what I wanted even cranked up!

I don't actualy know when it was made, but it surely isn't new. Power output is 250W/4Ohm or 400W/2Ohm. The amp is great for the kinds of music I play, and these are blues, jazz and "Korny" hardcore. It has a built-in chorus, effect loop, and compressor. The only thing I would change is adding some kind of compressiol level regulator, because it's predefined by the manufacturer (never the less it works really great). I use this amp on stage, in clubs and in my garage (I just love pissing my neighbours off). Sometimes I have a feeling it lacks about 200 additional W, but it happens extreamely occasionaly.

Sound Quality : 10
I play Cort Curbow 4 with one Bartollini soapbar pickup and a 3 point EQ, and I have to say, that I realy enjoy the sound the amp produces in cooperation with that guitar. It has both the punch and clarity I need. Sometimes it makes my ears hurt when i'm having a longer rehersal. The sound variety is great. The 9-point graphic EQ allows you to nearly completly control the sound. Combined with an active electronics aboard your bass you can play whatever you want, and it will always sound the way it should be (off course if you spend some time trying to find the sound you are looking for). I personaly like a bit distorted sound (but only a bit) with a powerfull low-end and slightly overdriven high-end, and it took me only 5 min. to set the EQ to sound that way. The on-board chorus also sound great. Compresion is sometimes too agressive, but nobody tells you to play THAT loud. Oh, and I use it with two home made bass cabs. It may seem imposible, but they sound relly great.

Reliability : 10
It never failed me, and it's really impresive for an amp i bought (most amps I played just stoped to work without any particular reason - FU****G badluck).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed.

I've been playing guitar for 4 years and bass for 3 years. Accept the things I mentioned i own Ibanez acoustic guitar and two home-made bass cabs (it may sound strange, but the sound realy good with my amp). I love that amp, baceuse it's mine, and the only thing I regret is that it's do FU***** HEAVY (a real pain in an ass when you have to carry it upstairs three times a day [don't ask];). Oh, and i wish it had a built-in TV, radio set and a skateboard;). One wy or another, worth the money I paid.

This amp has some great features on board it ie: built in chrous, crossovers, compression etc etc. I must admitt i do use/ have used all the features whilst gigging this amp, and they all have been mad.
Power wise...its very Beastly LOUD and turned up with a 4"10" shakes the roof off!

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds r extremley versatile. I play in a ska/Fast punk band. And it does more than meet my requrient. very punchy, very loud, great EQ, all put through a 4"10" tvx cab. Although i dont like massives of bottom end (metal style) i have cranked the bass up and hell yeh it rocks!

Reliability : 10
100% all the way, nonthing gone wrong at all.

Customer Support : 10
Dealers easy to get too, warrenties were excellent. no more said....

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 5 years, This amp is the NUTTS. If i had the choice to replace it i definately wouldnt! Although the peavey firebass does take my fancy! After gigs i have had other bass players from other bands come up to me after using my amp in concert saying they love it! Keep it up Peavey

Sound Quality : 10
the mmusic i play is really heavey and it handels the b sting on my bass with no problem. on high volume the ddt speaker protection os a speaker saver. i have done a couple of gigs with it and it handled them no problem.

this amp is generally a good all round unit.i choose it over trace elliot at the time of purchase because i felt that it offered good value for money.

Sound Quality : 8
i use a Westone Thunder 3 Bass owned since new in 1985.
i play both pick/finger (mainly finger style). it copes very well with the wide range of music that our band plays. anything from reggae to punchy to chart.

Reliability : 2
i'm afraid that unfortunately this is the bad bit. after reading all of the other reviews, it seems that i have been unlucky and purchased a rare bad one.
reliabilty has been very poor.
the same fault has occured 4 times in the last 2 years...power shows, but no sound, unit dead.
This happened twice litterally minutes before going on stage at important gigs. (thank goodness for the old reliable Hi-Watt Valve Jobbie!!)
As a busy Semi pro , i find this is poor.
However, that said, i would still purchase another Peavey, although it would have to be a different model.
anyone wish to let me know their comments regarding the new "FireBass" 700w amp?
not good Peavey!

Customer Support : No Opinion
i am mailing customer support ref the above now.
as yet, no reply to my mail.
it's early days yet, so i will give it the benifit of doubt.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I have been playing bass since 1981 (semi pro since 1985). i also play alto sax.
I previously played
H/H (NO COMMENT)
A Marshall JCM 800 series bass stack.
even though it was a valve unit, it was totally reliable.the reason for sale was change for change sake.(i rate it 8/10 sounds...10/10 reliablity)
present unit is Peavey MK VI head, 4x10 TX, 1x15 BX "Black Widow".
speakers good, you know about the top.

As an overall rating(amp excluded), i would have no problem giving 9/10

this is a 250watt/side head with bright switch for solos and punch for extra power. it is very loud. i use it in conjunction with a peavey 1820 cab which houses an 18 and 2-10's. it is plenty loud for about any application. it has stereo chorus, compression, a 9-band EQ. it is a solid state amp.

Sound Quality : 8
i uses it witha pbass and it brings out the rock/punk sound im looking for. the clean channel remains pretty clear on 9 even when running to 2 cabs at once the compression works wonder at high volumes. i played it witha BOSS turbo distortion(sucky) but the amp made it sound sweet and gave me a grungy sound.

Reliability : 10
ive dropped it punched it threw it...its made out of titanium or something. it didnt work one day in really cold weather but then it was ok. very reliable

Customer Support : No Opinion
never talked to them but peavey service is supposed to be the best(we use almost all peavey stuff)

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for a year. and i use mostly peavey gear ive found it to be pretty dependable and worth the money. i would buy it or another peavey head if it were lost. it sounds better than most "top of the line" like hartke and shit. if it had reverb it would be cool but i think its ok that it doesnt.
