Not sure when it was made, but this head is Awesome! Its got the blackface with red accents. It doesn't have a tone of features but, it has ample eq settings. Has knobs that can be either be reduced or boosted. Tone controls are Contour Low Mid Mid shift High +/- 15 db as well as having preamp and master volumes. You won't get SVT Classic sounds by overdriving the pre but the amp does have versatility. The Balanced XLR is in front wich makes it convenient when you are battling the sound man. The power swith is in the back, not convenient. I wish the pre amp volume gave it more growl, I guess I could get a pedal for that. It really needs a mute for the tuner, but this is early technology, not too shabby It does have the speaker protection which should cut the amp before your speakers blow as well as active/passive and bright/normal push buttons. It has a tuner send (no mute, no headphone jack either), FX send and return loops, pre/post eq for XLR out, and ground lift switch Cool Thing, CAN PUSH 2 OHMS. This is a dream come true for me. 450 @ 2 ohms, 300 @ 4 ohms, not sure at 8. I don't need 8 ohms and you can google it if you really want to know... Anyways, It gets an 8 because it's between good and perfect. It is good for most syles, rock jazz, slap, reggae, etc... I can play a little bit of it all but I am in a punk band. Old style like Circle Jerks or Negative Approach.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using a Squire, made in Mexico, junk, Jazz bass with stock everthing. I have had this bass for about 9 years. It is my baby. I can make this amp sound super tight with this bass. I am glad this bass does not have the higher out put pups. This amp seems to love that cheap, passive jazz sound. I play finger and pick styles and while playing with a pick makes the notes more sharp, finger style makes my cab melt like butter. It sounds so smooth. I found that between the eq on the bass and the eq on the amp, I can pretty much get any sound I want. The amp is only noisey because I need to get the pots on my bass cleaned. I have not distorted this amp, It gets really loud. I plan on gigging it out for the next couple months. I will report back on this later. So far, so good.

Reliability : 9
Have not had an issue yet with the head, just with cabs. It is a Peavey, DUH! Peaveys are known for their uncanny strength. If it breaks, I will be very surprised. My first peavey practice amp was in my possession for about 7 years before I passed it on. How's that for dependable? I'll give it some gig abuse and get back to ya. No backup, except for venue's PA.

Not yet needed.

I have been playing for over 9 years. I have played through Fender, Acoustic, Peavey, Crate, Ampeg, SWR, Carvin, Blah blah blah... This amp is what you need, when you need it. I know there are people in this world that play on thousand dollar amps with ten thousand dollar basses. This is no boutique but, it gets the job done and sounds decent. If this thing was stolen I would go altered beast, power up, and whip some a**. I would try to find another GOOD deal on this head, but don't know how close I could come. I really wish it had more color and a mute for a tuner. Watcha gonna do? Considering the price, the reputation and my happiness with this head, this is the deal of the century.

I play in several different groups, as well as some fill in work, including folk rock, classic rock, and jazz. Single channel solid-state amp with three band semi-parametric eq. It has an effects loop and tuner output as well. I have wished for a mute option at times. The amp works best for rock, country and blues. I would prefer a little crisper sound for jazz, but it still works for me. The amp is simple to use while at a gig. The strap handles have come loose several times and are quite flimsy in comparison to the tank-like nature of the amp.

Sound Quality : 9
I use an Ibanez SR1200 and a Fender BG-32. Both sound good through the amp. I can get a variety of sounds from vintage J-bass fingerstyle to slaps and fingerpops through a chorus pedal. They all sound very good.

Reliability : 10
The amp is a road warrior and has been dropped by clumsy bandmates several times. With the exception of having to tighten the strap handles, I have never had a problem with the amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had a problem so my answer is "Don't Know."

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing since the late 1970's and have used a variety of gear. I am a weekend warrior and the extreme reliability of the amp coupled with a pretty good sound and tone flexibility, has made this my primary amp.

5 band EQ, effects loop, the DDT speaker protection, 450 watts in 2 ohms, 300 into 4 ohms.

Sound Quality : 9
This amp has tons of potential to create a great, custom sound. I play a vintage Fender Deluxe Precision and a BC Rich NJ Neck Thru Warlock on it. The extra mid range EQ really helps in creating a thick, warm tone, without sounding scooped. Luckily, the DDT speaker protection is very sensitive. I intially ran the head on one Black Widow 15" when I first bought it, and I didn't pay attention to DDT lights. Needless to say, I blew the speaker out twice. Once I got a 4 x 12 to go with it, I was able to calibrate all the settings to save me from the hassles of speaker damage. This amp has tons of power to run almost any set up, and creates tones that are studio ready. The only thing I haven't been pleased with is the gain. If you are looking for a good chorus or distortion on it, buy a preamp or a pedal. It just sounds crappy with the gain up.

Reliability : 10
The amp itself has never given me a problem. Like I said above, I have blown out my speakers with it though. Peavey dealers are hard to come by depending on where you live.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I had a one year warranty on it, but never used it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for ten years. I started out with a Kustom practice amp, and moved up to a Fender combo a few years later. I finally gave in and saved my money for a quality head and cab unit and got the Peavey Nitrobass, and I have never looked back. If someone stole it, I would first cry like a little girl, and then hunt them down and tear off their thumbs and take it back.

All the features everyone else here listed. I got my amp in 2002. I play it through a peavey 410 cab. This thing ROCKS!! You get an awesome sounding half-stack for the price of one ampeg cabinet!! I can get just about any sound i want out of this amp, this thing is versatile enough to cover any style of music!

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray and it sounds AMAZING! I mostly play ska/ punk stuff... don't automatically label me as a root note plucking no-talent bassist because of this fact however! Listen to Matt Freeman from the band Rancid, or Matt Wong from Reel Big Fish. I mostly play stuff along the lines of their styles. I also play alot of slap... I do play a stingray, remember! This thing can handle anything i throw at it! I can dial out any sound or tone i want from this amp. The versatility of this amp, and the versatility of the active preamp in my stingray combine to make the perfect bass sound!

Reliability : 10
I've owned this amp for about 2 years, it is my only bass amp, so it is the one that gets played all the time, and this thing has held up. I've never had a single problem with it. I play in bands and gig with it all the time. As I said this is my only bass amp and i gig without a backup and I don't feel like i would ever need a backup.

Customer Support : 10
I have never dealt with them, because every peavey amp i have ever owned has been so amazingly well built that i never had any problems with them! But if their amps are this good then i'm sure their customer support people are awesome as well!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass for about 3 years, and guitar for about 6. I LOVE THIS AMP!! If it were lost i would definitely go out and track down another nitrobass, and if it were stolen I would find the guy that took it and rip off his balls after frying them with a blow torch and then squishing them with a hammer... and then i would proceed to take my amp back! I compared it to the SWR Workingman amps of the same price range, and this amp sounded just as good and it was $50 cheaper! I love the sound i get out of this amp. The only thing in my setup i might replace is the cab, and that's only if i get bored and have a bunch of extra money lying around! I might eventuall replace it with an Ampeg or an SWR 410 sometime... but like i said that's only if i get bored and have a bunch of extra money!

has a hell of a lot of features, such as, 5 range eq, ddt speaker protection, post fx loop, and otha stuff. this baby is awsome, can deliver all kinds of great sounds, from a real clean sound to a sound where u hear d house shake.

Sound Quality : 10
sound kicks. can get a huge range of sounds. although i use some fx pedals, the amp just tops of my sound. people are always wowed by the look of the beast, the red and black but they are even more wowed after hearing it. no distortion through my 115.

Reliability : 10
is like a tank without wheels. dropped it a few times and works as well as when i first got it. i keep drink on there an stuff and ive always got someone coming up confused by why i leave my drinks there but if they spill, theu aint going through the amp, they'll just stay on top.

This amp had a great range of features including 5 band EQ, effects loop, the DDT speaker protection and otha stuff. This amp delivers heaps of sound and 'oomph'. Also can handle 2 ohms just like that other guy said, which a fair amount of amps can't do. I use this to play at my home (which the nieghbours seem to like ;) and also for live stuff and sounds great both ways.

Sound Quality : 9
This is a great amp for all kinda of things. I play metal, funk (slap/pop) punk, blues and otha styles and this amp is great for all of them. I sometimes get a bit of noise from the amp but i think that's because i have pretty crap pickups. It also gives out massive amount of noise, with it being 450W and all.

Reliability : 9
This amp looks like it could be ran over and dropped off a building and still work fine the next day. Havent had a problem with the amp yet and hope that it will still go on a for a fair while.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Havent had to deal with them but have heard good things.

Overall Rating : 10
This is just a great amp overall. Would choose the NitroBass over a lot of other brands like GK, TE, and SWR.

All I have to say is this thing Kicks Ass!!! I have been playing for 30 years and have always had peavey equipment. From concert Bass to Coliseum Bass,(really liked the coliseum) But this bass head has a ton of power. I use two black widow 15" in my own folded horn cabinet and I can stun a rather large animal at probobly 50 to 60 yards. And deafen them at 100.Excuse me,I like pwer.

Sound Quality : 10
I use any guitar that stays in tune.Thats just that. This amp head will handle the rest.I get no distortion maybe a little noise but at very high out puts. At normal listening levels, amazing quietness.I like it loud.I am happy.

Reliability : 10
I have had peavey equipment for a lot of years, and there is a reason why.I have never experianced a failure. Not one. Why change? I will tell you this. There is no better value out ther.PeaveyRocks!!!

Never had any system failures. For years all my peavey stuff has always performed better than my expectations.

Overall Rating : 10
Ihave beenplaying for a long time. I am approaching 50 and I always remember playing My Bass.I have along with my Nitro Bass head a cabinet of my own design which holds 2 15 inch Black widow speakers facing foward, the cabinet is actually shaped like a horn at the back, Directing the sound from the rear of the speakers out to the base of the cabinet where there is an open bin. This thing really makes the floor pump!!! It is wired for steeo and has 4 jacks on the rear for hook up.2 for the amp left and right and two for daiseying to two other 15's with horns mounted on stands at head level. With my mixer and my power amp running all this with effects, sometimes I just have to stop and thank God and say a little prayer for Ozzy. My inspiration......Know this.My stuff rocks. It is loud and obnoctious and crystal clean.I am a serious believer in Peavey equipment. I can't explaine it any better than that. Come on over sometime. I'll show you.

All the standard stuff plus Peavey's DDT speaker protection circuit, XLR ins and outs, simplified EQ (less fiddling required) and clean power. Peavey is one of the few that'll let you run a 2 ohm load. In fact, I give it a 10 just because of that.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Fender P-bass with actives, an Ibanez Musician ('79), a Yamaha and a Squier 5 string. Only minor adjustments are req'd when switching guitars. I play with multiple cabinets and have never needed the post-volume past 50%. This is a powerful little amp. I wonder how long it will hold up.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's too early to tell. My Peavey Mark 6 lasted about 8 years before the finals went soft. My Hiwatt STA200 is what I call reliable. (mid 70's)

Customer Support : 8
Peavey has always been quick to send schematics and manuals.

Overall Rating : 10
So far so good with this amp. I tried Eden, GK and Trace before I bought this one. Only Peavey gave me the option to run at 2 ohms. There is a 5 year warranty with this amp if you buy it new from a dealer.

Just bought this head a couple of weeks ago. It has a single channel, effects loop, low Z output, three band EQ and plenty of power.

Sound Quality : 10
I play Blues,Rock and Metal. Small to med. size clubs. I use an OLD Ibanez Musician Bass ('74)neck through and had some major work done to it. I wasn't real happy with the job until I played it through this Nitrobass head. This head brought it back to life. The Nitrobass can handle Loud punch or mellow tones cleanly and easily. I tried SWR,T.E.,Crate and G.K. But the Nitrobass made them all sound WEAK!

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems yet.
