Phil Jones bass boxes are most innovative products for bassplayers, what I heard during last years.
Is very different to see the picture only and to see this box by action. On the picture of 24B box you can see 24 speakers with 5? diameter. Because the cone of every speaker is silver and the edge is black, the speakers look smaller, than they are.
Look at this box by playing bass in spotlight. The look is amazing. All the speakers are working together like one big pulsing membrane!
Front panel of the box is moreless all in the move. You don't see 24 small speakers, You got one gigantic speaker with 24 coils now!
Nobody else can use the full front area on the bassbox, like PJB. Compare to 15? or 10? boxes. Too much empty place rests in peace.
On PJB box is every free inch filled some activity. This box lives!!

The construction of PJB boxes is different, and the sound is different too. This sound is incredibly loud but the tone is cultivated.
Basic condition is: to play good instrument. Because PJB don't use tweeters and horns combined with different speakers, crossovers and other tone changing elements, You have no oportunity to hear the meeting of vipers and deers in the box. No hiss, no bugling.... You can hear only the real voice of the instrument. Hard to describe the sound. Compare sound of locomotive horn and sound of bass pedal on church pipe organ.
Both have big acoustic pressure, but just one brings the joy to Your ear. Yes, sound of PJB is rich and perfect like sound of church pipe organ, includes all colors of tone spectrum, is strong and mellow in same time.
I owned lot of different boxes, but this is my ultimate box. Pitty, I found this box too late, probably PJB is on on the market too short time compare to others, but I think, here You can hear a future.

Reliability : 10
Please don't test the reliability of PJB boxes at home!!I can confim a serious warning about extreme sound level on the boxes. I reached excellent result with PJB reliability, but I caused a crack in the 20 inch thick wall by the test.
Reliability is very relative in this case! Probably is the PJB box more reliable, than my wall made from old good bricks....

I e-mailed to PJB company for advice about spaekers impedance. The reply came during 20 minutes. Precise, clear answer.

I play bass about 30 Years. I was long time pro musician. Now I play with rock band for my joy only. I own lot of basses and my bass room is full of equipment.
I like my old amps and boxes, because they can bring back my memories. I spent lot of money for my expensive previous boxes and I spent lot of money for PJB. Now I can say with all my experience:
To buy and play PJB 24B+8T rig brings probably similar feel, like climb Mount Everest. Everything else is under Your horizont, just heaven is higher?..

This is the new Phil Jones Bass 24B & 8T cabinet package aka the PJB Piranha. These cabinets are the 2004 models. The 24B is serial number 17. The 8T is serial number 51. PJB is not just another manufacture who stuffs Eminence speakers into a cabinet calling it new.

I dare say this is not an evolutionary product, but rather a revolutionary one in the bass world. The 24B utilizes (24), that's right Twenty Four 5" drivers in a single ported cabinet. There are no crossovers. The 8T, (8) Eight 5" drivers.

It's a huge wall of sound that's flat from 23hz to 15khz. I don't know if Phil uses a anechoic chamber for his specs or merely a software program but these cabinets go all the way down while the highs are bright without being harsh.

Both cabinets will handle 3,200 watts although I can't imagine needing it. I'm using 1,000 watts with the 24B & 8T and it is more than enough.

The 24B cabinet is large at 38" high x 24.5" Wide x 19.5" Deep. It weighs in at 150 lbs but has very heavy duty 4" casters and skid rails on the back for moving. Steel handles are perfectly placed for easy movement. Much easier to move than any 8x10" in my opinion. The 8T is much smaller with the same Width and Depth dimensions as the 24B being only 16" high and weighing in at 74 lbs.

I also LOVE the look of the textured vinyl covering and chrome corner gaurds. Seriously now, the fuzzy carpet was to save manufactures money not to give you a better product. Properly applied vinyl will not tear like carpet. Just look how well many 60s vintage Fenders have held up.

Although these cabinets might seem best suited to slappers, I'm a finger style player that loves 32nds and triplets while I play the entire neck. The quickness & transparency of this cabinet lets all those years of practice really shine.

My SWR Goliath IIIs are now history. The Edens will soon see Ebay...

The sound was orignally very difficult for me to dail in as I utilized my Goliath III settings and it sound terrible.

I finally set everything flat and WOW....There it was!

A fidelity like never before. You can really hear your instrument's voice. I tried all 13 of my basses thru it from a super bright light gauge strung active bass to a 35" scale passive fretless with flats.

The tonal spectrum is very even from a low B to a high B and everything in between. If you play the entire neck like I do and seem to have upper register notes get lost in the mix or sound too brittle with the terrible horns most bass cabinet manufactures use you'll love the PJB.

The dynamics on this cabinet are almost scary. You can DEFINITELY do hearing damage with this cabinet so be careful! I just had to slap some although not my thing and watching all those 32 speakers jump around is a sight to see....A TRUE wall of sound.

The cabinets defintiely blossom into the room as you get further away from them. I couldn't be more pleased. I'd imagine it will sound better and better as the speaker suspensions get worked in.

Reliability : 10
Who is Phil Jones anyhow? As the product is so new, I was very concerned about my money going to some new garage operation that was under funded and over stated.

Thank God for the internet....I found, and you will too with a little research, that Phil Jones is a God in the world of high end Audio Speakers. Look up AAD speakers and find out more about Phil.

He's no new kid on the block and studied under a Master at Western Electric....the inventor of the loudspeaker.

The cabinets are built tough. I can't imagine blowing a speaker in them. The heat dissapation thru the 32 drivers should be excellent. The cabinets have a well supported grill to protect the drivers. With a 2 year warantee, I doubt I'll ever need it. Speaker connectors are Neutriks.

If you call PJB, odds are Phil may pick up the phone himself. His wife Freda also works at the shop whcih I believe is located with AAD Speakers.

Customer support was excellent. I was constantly updated regarding my order and shipment. Phil personally called my home to make sure the cabinets arrived in perfect condition and that I was pleased with the quality and transaction.

Although I haven't asked for it I'd bet Phil would give me his home phone if I went on tour with the PJB to make sure there were no problems.

I should also mention his packaging. Why should you care? Ever tried a claim with UPS or a trucker lately?

I've bought Carvin, Bag End, SWR, Eden, Epiphini, GK and a host of other new cabinets. I had a damaged SWR Goliath III because they used foam rubber corner protection which was usless. That meant the socket for the wheels was damaged so the caster won't stay in. The glue from the protectors also got on the cabinet. Brand new damaged merchandise.

My Epiphini FACTORY buy was ridiculous. The horn fell off the tweeter is was packaged so poorly.

Phil is pro all the way. I also bought several AAD high end Speakers for our home. Yes, I'm that impressed. Packaging there was the same. 130lb lead lined speakers made it in perfect condition although you could tell the boxes were abused.

Phil & Freda remind me much of Steve & Jill Azola if you know them. Good people who are in the bussiness for the art side of it, not the money. They're name is on the product, not some corporation with no faces. This is real deal...

Overall Rating : 10
With 20 years of playing, half of which have been professional, I've not been this impressed with a new product since ACOUSTIC came out with the 360 in the 60s. I own several vintage bass amps, SWR and also EDEN.

I doubt anyone could steal this bad boy. I'm going to mount a 12 gauge shotgun rack to the side the make sure ut stays mine. Although it would push easily down the street. If it took a walk, I'd defintiely get another.

Downsides are few...Big and heavy but it goes with the territory. It's not cheap but the VALUE is there! There is nothing to compare it too....It blows away the field...
