As mentioned before in other reviews, this is the extension cabinet designed for the Suitcase Combo amp. It features four Piranha 5" drivers (PJB calls them "motors")rated for 300watts RMS and is about the same size and heft as a single, heavy duty 10" cabinet. There are no crossovers or horns. The driver cones are coloured grey for 2008 and future, which is a change from previous models which had a silver finish. The cabinet itself is extremely well-built, easy to transport and looks stunning. My only complaint is the lack of any other style of speaker connection (speakon only) but this only meant I had to upgrade my own gear a bit. I'm not complaining, really, as the speakon system is very well made and in the process nearly doubled the amount of copper conductor going to the cabinet.

I had been looking and trying out new cabinets for several months, to replace my road-worn old-school Thiele-ported 15" RCF monsters. They still sound great for my bass gigs (F-bass BN-6 and 1960's Kent fretless 335) but were not making the grade for my work with my Mobius Megatar 12 string touchstyle instrument. I needed something that offered a much wider frequency range and, hopefully, more portable than the 100lb 15's. The PJB 4B's solved both problems handily! Not only do they weigh only 39lbs each, but these cabinets feature a FLAT frequency response from 25hz-15khz! Tapped notes on the Megatar sound clear as a bell, with bottom-end that will make you shiver and cry with pleasure when you first hear it. The flat response also results in excellent sound from almost any direction, and that big side "boom" that seems to happen with much larger drivers is noticeably reduced. I am directing signal from the Megatar through a "vintage" Pearce BC1 preamp, a pair of Quadraverb GT's, an AB international 900A power amp, then to two of these cabinets. This combination results in about 600 watts of very clean power, and the result can be earth-shaking when needed.

I have no concerns over reliability. These are built too well and have more than enough headroom to handle whatever I will throw at them. The small size makes them easy to manouver in and out of gigs and studios, which reduces the concern for incidental damage or back problems...

I bought these from clubbass.ca. Their service was impeccable, and the salesman was very accomodating and objective. I have not had to worry about repairs. PJB warrants their products for two years.

I've been playing bass professionally for over twenty years, and I have had the Megatar for over four years now. I freelance alot these days and having a portable, great sounding rig is essential to my overall "pro package." The smaller cabinets really reduce the perceived stress to club owners and patrons when I'm playing out, and studios so far love the low-volume accuracy of the tone from such a small package. This feature is something I neglected to mention before in this review. Compared to most other speaker combinations I've used, the PJB 4B's sound incredible at whatever volume you choose to use them at!

This is an 8 ohm speaker cabinet designed to be stacked under the Phil Jones Suitcase amp. It has 4 5" drivers, a convenient top mounted handle, and two NL4 speakon connectors. I believe it's rated at 300w.

The cabinet enhances the capabilities of suitcase amp by increasing the amplifier's wattage output. It sounds excellent used with the suitcase amp and together they make an easily portable rig that wil cover a lot of gigs effortlessly. Typically, Phil's gear sounds true to the sound of your instrument and this cabinet is no exception.

The 4B is built to the same high standards as all of Phil's gear and I would expect to never have a problem with it.

Phil and his wife, Freda are great and very accessible in the event that there was a problem with any of their gear.

i've been playing for a long, long time and have tried (owned) almost everything out there in one form or another. Phil's gear attracted my attention initially because it was so obviously different from everything else out there. The reasons for it being so different made good sense to me and it seemed worth a try. I have not been disappointed with any purchase I've made from Phil. In fact, the stuff works so well I find myself looking forward to the next time I get to take it out and use it. It's not cheap, but neither are the instruments I play through it so it's worth it to me.

I just picked up the 4B extension cabinet (serial #5) to go w/ my PJB suitcase. To say it is amazing does it an injustice. Fit and finish are typical Phil Jones and the sound w/ the suitcase is unbelievable. As it's a cabinet the features are minimal except:
Speakon in and out, recessed handle on top, recessed corners to stack the suitcase, basicly more features than a cabinet is supposed to have.

Incredible. I mainly use a BSX Allegro or several old Fender p-basses and the rig is by far the best sounding thing I have ever heard and definately the best I have owned in 40 years of playing. The use of the 5" drivers eliminates the hiss of tweeters or horns and the pairing w/ the Suitcase yields the cone area of 2X10 with (8) motors.
The low end is magnificant and the Allegro Upright actually sounds like a real bass, very detailed. After fooling around with the EQ I leave it flat and just do a bit of compression. The suitcase by itself is great, w/ the 4B it blows away anything I have experienced. BTW I don't work for PJB, I did not get a deal, I paid retail, and I feel fortunate to have it. If lost or stolen I will do whatever it takes to get another one. I would anticipate short supply on these things for a while, even at $500 and another $1300 for the Suitcase they will sell well as long as people try them.

Just got it but the PJB stuff is the best made I have ever seen. I also own a Briefcase and it has proven to be indestructable. I take it camping and use it at Church. The 12 Volt feature is weird but cool.

I talked to Freda Jones (Phil's wife) after I bought the Suitcase and told her I wanted a 4B as soon as they were available. I live in St Louis and they are based here. She called me as promissed and set aside #5 for me. I have also received personal thanks from Phil for the purchase. The only companies I have ever dealt with that had that kind of personal service are BSX and Azola. Dino @ BSX is truly one of the best guys out there.

I have owned so many rigs I have lost count. After getting these two pieces I sold all but 3. I kept my Ampeg SB12 Portaflex because it's so cool, my SVT100T Ampeg because it's still a great little amp, and my 67 Deluxe Reverb because my Telecasters have never sounded better.
The pair weigh about 40lbs each and are tiny. I can literally fit the Suitcase, the 4B, and my Allegro in a Porsche 944 and close the hatch. If you don't believe me send me an email and I'll send you the pictures. It makes for an incredible set-up for any kind of music short of a stadium. It would work there too with the DI from the Suitcase. It's hard to say a $1300 mini combo w/ another $500 cabinet is a great value but you can't put a price on things at this level, it blows everything else away.
