I Feel Bad for E-Man -- you really must have gotten a rare lemon from Roland: My amp has no hiss what-so-ever even with the gain cranked. Hopefully yours can be fully restored to sound as good as mine does... That being said, this amp simply sounds incredible and has plenty of power for pretty much any gig... In fact, I can drown out most drummers relatively easy, but since I am not a dick, I know how to control my volume!
If I get hired to play arenas, I'll send the line out into a 2000 power amp and stack of speakers! Until then, I'll be happy that I get a big amp's sound and volume without having to lug around an 8-10 cabinet!
Really though -- if you are looking for top-of-the-line tone with more than adequate power (by the way, this amp sounds great at ALL volumes... doesn't get wimpy when turned down, nor muddy when turned up), than get yourself a Roland DB-500... I'll probably get another!

Again, I sympathize with E-man -- I know what it is like to have something fail... Just never had anything from Roland fail (knock on wood?). Of all the reviews of this amp though, it seems only E-man has a lemon... everyone else's seems to work fine! I'd give it a ten based on my own experience, but it's a real bummer that there is even one lemon out there... I'll give it a 9?

I've never called Roland for anything and I own a ton of Roland gear -- never a problem. Apparently their customer support is incredibly kind and helpful -- hope I never need to find out for myself...

This is a great amp for small to medium gigs. Its very loud for its size.I use the solid state setting with flate eq and compression and it sounds very hi fi.Its a great amp for players who like to hear every note they play immediatley and cleanly

Im using a ken smith 5 most of the time with the setting on solid state. With my fretless esp i use the tube setting.
Its got a constant hiss .If you turn the treble up you'll amplify that hiss even more.

Been playing 20 years I own swr speakers, iamp 800 ,labsystem 600ss,ken smith ,Esp ,godin and upright basses.
If it was stolen i would buy it again.
I just wish it wouldn't break down so often.
It probably needs casters as its pretty heavy for a small amp.
Oh and for some reason the db500 sounds better than the 700db .Dont know why!!
