Gents,
Just procured a pair of 2004 SWR Goliath III's with casters and covers. Excellent products. I run them with the Horns off as I do not like SIBILANCE(read HISS). These ARE for bass guys and girls.
I power them with either a Sunn Concert Bass amp or a Sunn Model T, first generation(4 x 6550 tubes). They kick butt. They are however 10" speakers and a little light in the Bottom end below 55 Hz compared to my Sunn 200S cabinet with 2 x 15" JBL D-140f's.
They are loud and clear. I personally hate tens but wanted to see for myself. Kicks the crap outta MAGNAVOX 810E'S. If you like 10" speakers, I highly recommend this Model. Both of mine are 8??.

Sound Quality : 10
Clean, crisp bass response to 55Hz. Good for small venues as they can be stacked. One word: LOUD.
And no distortion.

Reliability : 10
Bought used for $900 for the pair in minty condition with casters and covers. Never had a problem.

Excellent products. I have played bass for 38 years. I would replace them if stolen. I compared it to MAGNAVOX. The Magnavox stuff sounded dead and lifeless. Magnavox = Ampeg. I truly believe this is the best box of 10"s on the market. Other equipment owned:
3 Acoustic 370 amplifiers
3 Acoustic 301 Cabinets
2 Sunn Coliseum amplifiers
2 Sunn 200S Cabinets with JBL D-140's

1 Sunn Concert Bass amplifier
1 Sunn Model T
2 SWR Goliath III's
1 SWR 12 Stack

1966 Fender Custom shop Jazz bass

Brand spankin new, 4 ohm Goliath III. Used mainly for blues/rock/funk band with keys, guitar, harp and drums. Rated at 700 watts. Very verstile sound, super clean, huge bottom and LOUD as heck. Chrome grill looks sharp, but the removable casters are a bit cheesy, they fall out any time you pick the thing up. Necessary, but cheesy. COuld use an upgrade.

Sound Quality : 10
Amazing sound quality. I see why this cab has set the standard for all these years. Super tight bottom, very clean sound, even at the bottom range of a Stingray fiver. Crisp highs, very even sound all the way across the frequency spectrum. Never feels like it's being pushed too hard, running an Ampeg B2R "E", the 450 watt version, with an ART tube pre/comp at the front end. Best I've ever heard my bass sound, makes me want to skip break and keep playing all night

Reliability : No Opinion
This thing is built like a freakin tank. Hopefully won't have any problems. Probably won't use with a back-up due to weight

Been playing for over twenty years, all styles of music and gear- GK, Peavey, Mesa, Eden, you name it. Playing in a funky- a** blues band at present, and this rig is PERFECT! May get buried with loud half-stacks, but For normal conditions, this thing is loud as balls. I use a Stingray five-string and a passive Warwick five-string with a B2R"E" , and it will fill just about any room I will play. If not, that'w what PA support is for. If stolen, I would replace in aa heartbeat. Heavy, but not unbearable

Pre-Fender SWR Goliath III bass cabinet, 8 ohm model. Simplicity at its finest: 4x10" PAS drivers and a Fostex horn pumping out up to 700w, horn attenuator on the rear panel along with 1/4" and Neutrik Speakon connections, spring-loaded recessed handles, removable casters, carpeted box, bottom slot port, and super sleek shock-mounted chrome grill. Small box make big BOOM!!!

Sound Quality : 10
This cabinet is an acoustic chameleon. Need deep bassy reggae tones? Done. Crisp slap and pop treble? Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Can be intense even when being quiet as a mouse, yet will gently rattle you to the core when you crank it up.

Reliability : 9
I have two of these, and they reside in my band's trailor with heavy 2x18" subs and other bulky PA equipment constantly bumping/grazing/falling, etc. Yet, they come out, ready to play, each and every night. Only gripe: the casters that come stock are kinda cheezy, but Peavey and Ernie Ball make solid replacement casters that retrofit without any modifying.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't had to deal with the company yet. Then again, haven't had a reason to. But the music company I work for deals with SWR through Fender and we haven't had any issues, be it with shipping time or chatting with the employees there.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 10 years and I've yet to come across a bass cabinet that puts out so much power and tone out of such a small box. If one or both of these cabs were ever lost or stolen, I would definitely search for replacements fast.

same features as most other high end 4x10 cabs built today.

Sound Quality : 10
I have used Fender, GK, Peavey, Ampeg, and Aguilar cabs. This one is the best. The Aguilar is quite nice also. Low end is GREAT, Highs are clear enough to show when your playing gets sloppy. Good punch. If it matters, the only two brands of bass cabs I still use are SWR and Aguilar, and the SWR has better performance IMO.

Reliability : 10
Been using mine (700 w 8 ohm) since around 2000. no problems yet, not one.

haven't needed um.

As stated above, I have used a few differnt brands and this cabinet just sounds the best IMO.

Mine is an '02 or '03, I believe and I can't say enough about the tonal quality of this beast. The cab also looks great with it's chrome grill. Also, in my honest opinion, there is no other brand of cabinets making a 4x10" able to provide the amazing balance of bass, mids and treble as well as the SWR Goliath III. Edens and Ampegs are one-trick ponies in my opinion. They put out great low end, but not well-balanced.

I use this cab stacked on top of the Son of Bertha 15" cab which is also an amazing product. The only complaint I have is with the horns on SWR's. I have the horn on both of my cabs turned off. With them turned up, even barely, there is a great deal of unwanted noise, especially fret buzz and clicks. Because of this, I am deducting 1 point, since I personally find this a feature that SWR should do without.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an Ernie Ball Stingray 4 and 5 and the sound quality I am able to achieve is superb. Currently, my playing style is groove metal-oriented (think Mudvayne meets 311) with a good bit of slapping. I play with a very aggressive finger-style technique with the bass dial on my amp set at about 3 o'clock, midrange between 1 and 2 o'clock and the treble set pretty low (around 10 o'clock). I can go from ballsy, bassy lows with superb midrange to blow your eardrums Flea-slap with just the simple push of the "ultra-brite" button on my SVT-4. In one of the previous reviews, the writer states that his Goliath III "farts out" on anything played below the low E. I'm guessing he must be pumping an assload of gain or "ultra-lo" (an option on some amps that, in my opinion, overloads cabs with way too much bass while cancelling out most of the mids and highs)through his cabinet, but who knows; maybe he got a lemon.

All in all, I rate the Goliath III's sound quality as the best in the industry. I've played 'em all, but then again, this is a very opinionated area.

Reliability : 10
10 so far. I've owned mine for about 3 1/2 years and I have blasted some serious low-B through this cab with no speaker problems to date.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not had to deal with SWR's customer service department, though I hear they've gotten kinda s****y since Fender took over in '03. My cab(s) just missed the buyout by a few months.

Overall Rating : 10
I have played bass since third grade, so that's like 13 years. Throughout my life, I have owned a myriad of bass equipment, but my search for the right setup is over (unless I get the opportunity to play through the new SWR SM-1500 head). I am a serious tone-junkie and have searched high and low for a rig that is both versatile and loud and I have it with this cabinet along with the rest of my setup. In college, I played in a cover band gigging sometimes 5 nights a week. In this band, we covered a vast plethora of genres; from super bassy rap/rock covers to Chili Peppers-funk to old-school Rage Against the Machine. Many of these venues had weak in-house PA systems if they had one at all. In some of these venues, we would run the whole band through the in-house PA with the exception of me (because the PA systems would simply conch-out with my bass playing simultaneously with the drummer). With no PA help, my rig could fill any of these venues with more than enough low-end. What I love most about the Goliath III is it's ability to retain amazing tone at any volume (and I've pushed it hard plenty of times for years with no busted speakers to date). I recommend this cab to anyone looking for a great sounding, powerful 4x10".

SWR Goliath III cab made sometime in 2003? Not really sure about that one. Features include some speakers, some wheels, nice metal front grill, carpet like covering, etc. Also has a tweeter adjust switchy on the back. I run this amp off of a BBE Bmax preamp into a Crown CE 1000 power amp... running about 900 watts. This provides me with more than enough power for any gig. Ive had this setup for about 4 years now and have found it to be versatile and powerful with any bass I plug into it. I havent been able to make this cab distort. The sound is very much a blank slate. I give it a ten, its a cab theres not much to it ya know?

Sound Quality : 9
I use a few different basses with this cab. I used to mainly play a 6 string carvin through it, but also your standard p bass, a thunderbird, and the odd tobias here and there. My style is mostly heavy, melodic Tool like stuff. This cab has had no problems reproducing any sound Ive been looking for. It is very responsive and clean. The tweeter control can get a bit hissy if you really crank it, mines at 12 oclock and if theres any hiss its not noticable. I feel that this cab can handle any sound you throw into it... it is very very rugged and will take alot of power. I currently use it in a death metal band and it is so powerful I give my drummer and two guitarists with full stacks a run for the money quite easily. I also run plenty of effects and have not noticed any issues. It has sounded good after many many gigs, ive yet to be disappointed by it. It stays nice and punchy throughout the spectum, from B even down to F#... no problems. If you stand in front of it and slap a few you feel like you are getting hit in the chest... I give it a 9 cause the tweeter control can be a bit hissy, but what do you expect when you crank your treble?

Reliability : 10
easily a 10 for reliability. Ive had this cab for a few years now and Ive never needed anything else. It gets the job done. Its very sturdy (IE, HEAVY!) and is just a beast. I gig without a backup with this cab everytime.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I havent had to deal with customer support so no opinion there!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Ive been playing for about 14 years... this was the first serious gig rig I purchased back when I actually had a band that gigged regularly. I needed something professional and reliable and I found it. I havent desired or needed anything else since I got this cab. It is truly a beast, heavy as hell, but the power and sound this thing delivers makes it all worth it. If it was stolen or lost I would definately get another one. Im saving up to by another so I can stack these bad boys and do some serious damage. Ive tried a few other cabinets before and after this one, and none of them have measured up in my opinion. It has handled every bass Ive played through it, it handles B and even F# without sounding flabby or farty or whatever. You should get one, its the last cab you will ever want or need.

I bought the cab last week, and I'm totaly satisfied with the product!!
Description:
4 10" speaker with 175 Watts each and a horn.
Total power: 700watts RMS
Impedance: 8 ohms
Frequency response: from 40Hz to 15kHz
Other Features: Tweeter Attenuation Control, Removable casters and rubber grip handles
Dimension: 23'Wx25.25"Hx18.375"D
Weight: 89 lbs

Sound Quality : 10
I'm currently using a music man sting ray 5, a presonus tube pre pre-amplifier, a power amplifier (PA - class AB type) just to drive de preamp signal (comon power amplifier used in night clubs) and the swr goliath III cab - total of 600 watts RMS.
My idea was to exploit the music man built-in pre-amplifier to perform the equalization. I choose to use power amps instead of bass amp heads because these heads usually are very expensive for higher power ratings and, in my opinion, the only benefit is the pre-amp section (good power amps are quite similar in performance). The tube pre adds the characteristic valve sound (warm and smooth).
The results are quite impressive!!! I played yesterday in a night club and the sound was amazing - excelent frequency responce and high definition in the low notes (5th strig)!!! This cab is a sealed type, so it gives a dry sound, perfect for grooving and dead notes.
Due to the sealed construction, the cab doesn't have the low frequencies naturally amplified (like in sub woofers), but it has a lot of power to generate these low frequencies when you boost them in the equalizer. This characteristic gives a very deep and clean low frequency notes with a very good definition - just perfect for me and bassists that likes to groove.
The only thing that I don't like in this cab is its weight - is too heavy.

I bought the cab in 2001.

Sound Quality : 10
I see some people are saying the cab sounds flabby when low notes are played through it. I play an Alembic 6 string which is a very powerful bass through an SWR SM-400 and I don't have any problems when everything is cranked and playing low. I get a nice tight rounded sound in the lower register and way up in the upper register when soloing. It handles all styles of music, I play jazz with a clevinger and it sounds great, rock, funk, country, you name it and the cab handles it all at all volumes.

Reliability : 10
Never had any problems with the cab, very reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I retired from the military as a bass player and I was able to try many different pieces of equipment. SWR and Eden and the best I have played through. In the early 90's I blew a Hartke 1-15 on a gig, I immediatly requested new gear. One duty station had Ampeg, no comparison. The Ampeg didn't give me the volume I needed. I've always used high end basses, Alembic, Ken Smith and they all sound great through the SWR.

SWR Goliath III cab, purchased brand new in 2005. 4 ohm version. Great to look at. Adjustable horn treater, nicely constructed, very compact. Very expensive.

Sound Quality : 5
I play classic rock and this cab is not the way to go for a rock and roller. SWR is trying to get the rock and roll guys using their stuff by making shiny chrome grills, ect. For a cab that is allegedly 700 watts rms, this farts out pretty fast. The bottom end is very transparent, to the point of being inaudible and it is prone to feedback. This cab as a stand alone is just not gonna get the job done, even with a 750 watt 750x head going into it.

Reliability : 10
No problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 5
Looks nice, not overly heavy, compact size, well built, sounds way flabby. Save your money and do it right the first time. I bought a new Goliath III 4 ohm and a 750x (see my review of that one) and was not happy, impressed or amused. For a rock and roll guy SWR is not the way to go. I sold the whole rig for less than 1/2 of what I paid and bought an Ampeg SVT-CL and a Ampeg SVT410HLF cabinet and am very happy. The all tube head is awesome and the cab has amazing lows. If you play rock and roll in the tradition, I suggest you save the bother and heartache of trying different rigs and go with Ampeg.

Made in 2005. I feel it is versatile. The cab responds well to however the bass preamp is EQ'd or otherwise modeled. I use this amp for classic rock, R&B, funk type music (no slapping). It has a single channel with a volume dial to adjust how much signal goes to the tweeter. This is a nice feature. I use it for live shows indoors/outdoors where decent volume is required. It's rated at 700w and takes a good amount of power without distortion. The nice "feature" of this cab is that it is straight forward. Speakon and 1/4" inputs. 4x10 cabinet with a 50w tweeter. Ported design.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a Fender Jazz bass through a Hartke VXL into a mixer and then to a QSC RMX 1850HD which connects mono-bridge (1200w) to the cab. The Hartke DI does nice tone shaping and it is very well reproduced by the cab. It's not noisy at all. It reproduces deep bass tones very well. The cabinet is ported. I have not driven this cab to distortion. It can take a lot of power. The cab seems to put out whatever sound I put into it. This is what I liked about the cab. It doesn't seem to flavor anything too much. I have control over how the bass sounds. There was only one other 4x10 cab that I thought sounded better on the shop floor, but it was $1200. This cab at $650 was truly a bargain.

Reliability : 8
I would run it without a backup. The wheels on the bottom seem a little small, but they'll do. Good front grill.

I have not dealt with the company.

I've played bass for 3 years, but I've played keyboards for 30+ years. I own a Hartke Kickback 12, a couple of keyboards and a few other basses. I would replace if stolen (if I had the money again!) I simply love the tone. It doesn't fight the tone that I put into it. I compared it to the Workingman series. I did not care for the Workingman. I would not have been happy with that cabinet, so I spent the extra money on the Goliath III. I briefly played this through a BBE Bmax preamp and it also sounded very nice.

Not sure when it was made. It's a standard layout 4x10 Cab. It's just got a hell of a lot more power than most. The only thing I look for as far as features go is a Tweeter level control and it's got that.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a Schecter Elite-4 with upgraded EMG 35J pickups. It handles everything quite well. My only nitpick is with Slap. It sounds OK to the side or above. Only when it's pointed at you will you get the best tone. That's what amp mics are for, though.

I absolutely love NOT being in front of it when playing anything fingerstyle. The tone just fills the room really well. Nothing seems to be harsh at all.

Reliability : 10
Seems to be built very well. I have no backup. A LOT of people use this exact cab so I'm not worried.

Dealt with them through a good amount of emails. Always were polite and prompt.

I went with this instead of the Workingman's 4x10. I ended up having to get a more powerful head then I had planned but it worked out alright. $400 for this cab and $480 for an 8004 T/O/P head is less than a Workingman's half stack and I now have double the power. Very good deal.

I play 5 string basses, This cab would be ok if you didnt play anything below an E. Anything below that, the speakers start farting. I use a preamp and a Carvin DCM2000 power amp. I got these cabs after my Eden 410XLT cabs were stolen and I weally miss them. After blowing up these over priced SWR pieces of junk Ive beed playing through some cheap Carvin 4-10 cabs. I use a Warwick Corvette with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups, A Crown K2 poweramp hits these babys at 1000 watts each, never had a problem. I use different preamps depending on what I need; I have an SWR "Stella" and also use a Digitech BNX3 when I want effects. My drummer is super loud and I crank up at all times 4 nights a week these cabs rock hard and load, I love how clean they are even when at max rated power, the only thing I don't like about them is it seems like they don't give their best tone until you hit em with about 500 watts, but when you get there they will surely rumble your ball sack.

overall a great sounding cabinet. the best 4x10 I've heard. I think I even prefer it to the eden, but I heard the eden in less than perfert circumstances so can't be sure.

Its really not all that loud for the amount of power it can take. 300w or less through 2 150w cabs would be louder than the full 700w through the goliath, but this is true of any single cab. I have to view the rated 105dB efficiency with suspicion, though. whats its sensitivity at 10W or 100W is more relevant perhaps. I don't know if any single 4x10 cab could do any better though.

I would add a 15 to my rig for louder gigs or for a ful on bassy rock sound at high volume. The G3 will do it by itself at lower volume, but push i and you'll get more mids and less lows. Again all probably true of any 4x10.

so I guess what I'm saying is its a great 4x10, but don't expect it to substitute for a big 2x15 or anything like that.

got this off ebay in late 2001. solidly built with decent heft, 4x10 with tweeter. attenuation dial is on back, as well as 1/4" right/left and speakon right/left jacks. Has plenty of handling capability, though in a rock band setting, the lows are a bit thin. Overall, all the features one could ask for in a 4x10

Sound Quality : 10
Play mostly my 83 P bass (with Seymour Duncans) through a Mo Bass, BBE sonic maximizer and an old Alesis Midiverb (something about the flanger at 55 that I can't let go of. . .). Really gives me the classic SWR sound that I love. I added a 1x15 Epifani cabinet, and have found that I am simplifying my lines, but playing much better in the pocket. If you are in a rock setting, consider adding a 1x15 to give your sound more booty. It's a matter of personal taste, but I couldn't be happier with this combo. On its own, though, the Goliath is true, clean and punchy.

Reliability : 10
no problems ever. Solid construction

dealt with Bryan Beller of SWR on Mo Bass issues, and he is simply wonderful. never had to call about the Goliath.

Overall Rating : 10
punchy, clean, creamy, what else is there to say? as I have said in review of other SWR products, I love the SWR sound, and this cab captures it perfectly. Adding a beautiful 1x15 with the tweeter almost to off, gave me the bottom to handle the P bass rumble, and it's a good thing in a rock band. This cab can measure up on its own. A true winner all the way around.

Tight punchy great with a tube head to give your amp some solid state punch without sounding like a crapy solid state amp (yes in my mind an all solid state bass amp is garbage no matter how much it cost. Best sounding 4x10 I've ever used, tried, or owned. I'm not gonna say I've tried them all, but I've tried quite a few in my 14 plus years of bassdom. If I wasn't playing detuned rock and metal it would be the only cab I'd need. It rocks.

I bought this cab brand new a few weeks ago. Its a 700 watt, 8 ohm, 4x10 cab with tweeter. There's a large knob on the back that adjusts the horn volume... a cool feature that I wasnt expecting but am now very happy to have. It's 89 pounds with removable casters and spring-loaded rubber grip handles. I found it to be very easy to move. Going up stairs definatley requires two people, but of all of my band's cabs, including a Marshall 4x12 and Laney 4x12, this cab is by far the easiest to move. Its got everything and more that I want from a 4x10 cab.

Sound Quality : 10
I power this cab with my Hartke HA3500 (350 watts at 4 ohms, 240 watts at 8 ohms) and primarily use Ibanez soundgear 5-string basses. This cab sounds awesome. Its got incredibly punchy highs and mids, and the earth-rattling low end recently made the light fixture in my practice space fall to the floor.

I bought this cab because it was easily the best thing under $1000 that the store had. I had my heart set on my Hartke amp, so, naturally, I was mainly looking at Hartke cabs to go with it. The guy there convinced me to try running though a Goliath III instead. Man, I was sold at the first note I hit. This cab has beautul, clear, clean tone no matter how loud I push it.

Reliability : 9
I have only had this cab fora month, and I've only gigged with it once so far, but it seems really reliable. Absolutley nothing has gone wrong the time I've had it.

Customer Support : 7
I've sent SWR numerous questions by way of email. They replied to all of them and offered great, complete answers to all my questions. It did, however, take several days to a week to get a reply, so SWR doesnt seem to be very speedy about it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 4 years, and of all the rigs I've run through, the one with the Goliath III is the best hands down. Its loud enough for what I do, and the sound it gives out well exceeded my expectations. I am incredibly happy with this cab, and the only thing keeping me from recommending this to everyone is the Goliath III's high pricetag, though I think it is well worth the money.

4x10 750 Watt 8 Ohm bass cabinet with horn in center of the typical rectangular speaker configuration,
adustable horn volume on back with large knob. Has partially recessed swiveling spring-loaded handles,
removable attached swiveling casters, and is ported to the front under the speakers. The volume control for the
treble is cool, plus it has neutrik speaker connectors if your amp supports that.

It is about 75 lbs, and is a two-man carry up a staircase. the cab is deeper than you'd expect, it is nearly exactly
a cube. The covering is really nice, and lasts, as well as the cool crhome metal grille. The cab is very
front-heavy, do DONT push it from the back! Only sideways or it WILL FALL OVER!

Sound Quality : 10

This is the ultimate studio bass cab. It is not loud, though, considering it is 750 watts. When turned up, it is
quite directional with the bass tone, meaning it is not too good for stage. However, in a studio situation where
you're playing by yourself, the tone is absolutely awesome. This cab sounds too clear for too much distorted
bass playing, but for a clean, clear tone from a 4x10 it is the nicest I have ever heard, and I am glad I have it.

Reliability : 9
It seems great so far, but if you turn up the tweeter or drive it hard with distortion, it sounds like it might start
breaking down. I would keep it clean with this cab... especially considering the price!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use customer support, but their website is useful.

Overall Rating : 9
SWR's pro gear is almost too good. If you want a loud bass amp and don't really care that it sounds
supremely clear (i.e. for stage), I would turn elsewhere considering the HIGH price. However, aside from the
volume problem, the sound and the cab is so far the best bass cab I have ever played.

4-10" P.A.S. woofers, 1 fostex tweeter with attenuator dial. 8-Ohm model,700 Watts RMS. Bottom ported for better low-end response. Covered in black ozite carpet(more on this stuff later),2 spring mounted handles. 89 LBS.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly use Musicman Sterlings & a Musicman Stingray-5. I also use an Alembic Europa 4,Alembic Excel 4 & 5 strings,a Rick 4001 w/Bartolini pickups, and various fretted & fretless Fender P & J basses with either DiMarzio model J or EMG pickups. The Goliath III is the first 4-10 cabinet I've tried that brings out the different wiring configurations on my Musicman basses. I power this cabinet with a Gallien-Krueger 2000RB amp at 720 W in bridged mono mode. I play classic rock, soul,r&b,and country in clubs,I play jazz and fusion at home. Depending on the style of music I'm playing,I use a different bass and amp EQ setting to fit the situation. I'm mostly a fingerstyle player, so I tend to boost the mids a bit.The Goliath has a great tone even with my EQ set flat. Each of my basses retain their sonic character. If you really boost the tweeter, you can detect some hiss but it's not too extreme. I feel this is a very versitile cabinet, with great focus. It does'nt distort at high volumes unless you push the front-end of your amp,and when pushed it has a nice, subtle growl. This cabinet has really good bottom end response even with a 5-string,and is really punchy across it's frequency range. With the tweeter shut off the tone is nice and round. If I need a little high- end bite,I'll turn up the tweeter to 12 o'clock. Usually it's fine for my style turned up to 9 o'clock.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have'nt had any problems. I did have a speaker go bad in my Goliath Sr. 6-10 while under warranty. SWR was very prompt in repairing the speaker. I understand SWR is under new management, so I'll give this catagory a "n/a".

2 year warranty. No problems at this time.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 25+ years. I also own an Ampeg SVTII-Pro Head and the back-breaker 8-10 classic cabinet. I compared the Goliath to an Eden DXLT410 cabinet(which sounded great also), I preferred the SWR's tone and response. The Eden sounded a little warmer,it also had a little better low end. The SWR is easier for me to transport. I like the SWR because it's design does'nt "throw" the frequncies as far as the Eden. Nothing is worse than being on stage getting a thumbs-down by the soundman(or the guitarist's buddies)and not being able to hear yourself. If you don't understand this, try out a 2-15" or 1-18" speaker cabinet standing 3 ft. in front of it and then walk out 20 ft.,then you'll know what I mean. As for the black ozite covering: It is a pain to keep clean. If you own cats, they'll think you just bought them a new scratching-post! I prefer the covering that Ampeg is putting on their Pro series cabinets(or pay the extra cash for SWR's covers). I also compared the SWR to a G-K's,Ampeg's,and Mesa Boogie's 4-10's. I personally like the SWR's tone the best. My best piece of advice is: take YOUR bass and if possible, your amp when shopping for cabinets. Also, insist on trying the cabinet on a gig or two before buying it. And NEVER place all your trust on your bandmate's opinions on what brand of amp gear to buy. It's your money and your sound. Try out as many brands of gear as you can before you rush into a purchase.

The most amazing 4x10 cabinet I've ever heard!! I've played on Ampeg, Bag end, Carvin, Eden, Fender, Harkte and the list goes on...SWR still provided deeper lows, punchier mids (with the slit exception of Mesa cabs but it can be eq'ed to knock out) and the trebleliest highs. I play slap with a bass 350 head and a 405 soundgear (ibanez), I've found that I either match up or soup up any sound.

Sound Quality : 10
On my 350 i set the gain on +3to4, aural:+1, bass:+2, Mid:Flat, Frequency:+5, treble:+2 and master at +3, and even with slapping the cab takes all the abuse one can give it. Sound is beautiful, house rockin bottom, cutting mids, and a shitload of punchy treble.

Reliability : 10
Very realiable, i've had the mofo for 3 years, i've never had to take it in for anything. it hasn't happened to me or at least yet, but SWR tweeters are notorious for busting especially from a 5 string

Customer Support : 10
I've often questioned them about new products, potential problems, etc. and Kelly (email service dept.) responds very quickly, usually 2 or 3 days. Service depends on timing so its really not fair to say that they weren't quick in response. but i got my friend into buying the working man 15 combo and he had a dead speaker but i took it to get it repaired and the guitar store near me took it, got the speaker that night and had it ready for me the next day with no charge.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it, i had to buy my setup all over i'd buy 4 instead of 1 cuz we all know that guitarists don't turn their shit down

Features? The finest sounding 4x10" cabinet money can buy. Built to take the road & plenty of power. Includes attenuation for the horn, texas barr grill (CHROME!) and comfortable well placed carrying handles.

Sound Quality : 10
4x10" cabinets are WAY diferent in sound. Most really focus on a "middy" punch with volume but have little low end. Read the specs and many roll off above 50hz. This cab still thumps down into the high 30's. Have a 5 or 6 string? FEEL IT! Very Hi-Fi sounding. Clean. With 105db at one meter, this in one loud cabinet.

Reliability : 8
Sadly it had a bad speaker right out of the factory sealed box. Voice coil rub....I pulled the speaker and it was replaced immeditaely. No problems since and it has been gigged regularly. Our sound man says we hit in the 115db range so it can really play loud and take it. Got to rate it down for being a defective "Fresh" product

Customer Support : 7
Steve Rabe, former President of SWR and former Design Engineer for the now historic ACOUSTIC has to be one of the finest Bass Amp design engineers around. As far as runnning acompany forget it. Little or no response to web inquiries although I lucked out with my speaker replacement and got someone with a pulse. The nice thing is the gear os so good, you may never need them again. Also, new managment, as Steve is now with Raven Labs, may clean up the customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
This is the finest 4x10" money can buy. Eden sounds very similar but is pricier and doesn't have the support network in place. I'm 100% satisfied. I use this 8 ohm cabinet to its full input capability of 750 watts so my situation is ideal. With smaller less powerful amps it won't have the killer sound I'm talking about. If you use this cabinet as a stand alone as I do, use at least 500 watts into 8 ohms to get the feel..

You won't get much better sound out of a 4x10 cabinet that this will give you. For definition on the low B string, the Goliath III is tops in the 4x10 category. I find this information particularly useful to bass players without the money to bi-amp. The construction is solid, wheels are a nice plus. I'm a little tired of seeing carpet on speakers however.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a Tobias Toby with Bartonlini pickups, and a Stuart Spector design with EMGs. As before, the low B on each sound great in this cabinet. I tried it with an SWR RedHead in the store, and use it with an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro at home. The high is beefy without being muddy. It was between this cabinet and a 4X10 Mesa Boogie. Though the Boogie had more punch, the SWR sounded better with clean sounds.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've heard great things, but haven't had this cabinet long.

This cabinet was definitely a step up for someone experiencing the pain of Hartke cabinets (nice sound, pop, there goes my speaker). The cabinet is very versitile, but not necessarily for everyone. If I was in a punk band, I would have to buy a Boogie. Since I was worried about buying a 15" (fear of wharping), this proved to be the best bet.

best 4x10 + tweeter bass cabinet you can buy!!(well the eden d410xlt is killer too, but not as puncy, its warmer than the goliath). This cabinet has some serious balls, and also great definition. The tweeter can be adjusted to suit your style

Sound Quality : 10
power this thing with my swr bass 350, killer match with a good 15 cabinet, or another 4x10, or even a 2x10... I almost wish I got 2 of those, instead of one, and a 15

Reliability : 10
very durable, the carpet does not damage as easily as tolex or vinyl amp covers do. Handles 700watts, and my amp doesent clip easily, so I doubt I will ever blow it

this is part of my stage rig, with a bass350 head on top, and a son of bertha 15 cab on bottom. couldnt ask for a better rig, if I needed more power to tour arenas, I would just buy another stack of the same stuff. SOunds great with my fender jazz bass
