The particular cabinet I own is a pre-fender model, and absolutely blows me away. Traded a Ampeg 610 for this 610 cab, and definately got the better end of the deal. I play everything from jazz to heavy metal and this thing supports what ever I play. HOWEVER, the Ampeg 610 is more portable than this cabinet BY FAR. Ampeg comes with skid plates, and "towel handle" on back. SWR has a back inset handle, big enough for one hand. Quite annoying. So I actually build a "towel handle" to resemble the Ampeg, and bolted it on manually, now i'm working on skid plates. Other than those 2 minor things, this cabinet is AMAZING!

I play this cabinet with an Ibanez EDB-600, and Schecter Stiletto Studio 4 fretless, and run through a Sans amp bass driver D.I, and a SWR 550x. With the sansamp, and I can get which ever sound I choose, and this thing will support it and improve it. With the ampeg 6x10, when you crank the horn dial on back, it starts to buzz. With this thing, COMPLETELY silent. Now once again, this is the PRE-Fender model. I'm not sure about the new ones. This is the cabinet i've been dreaming of.

Been playing about 5 years, and before this owned a seperate 210 and 410 Peavey TXF. Got tierd of the two piece rig, so decided on buying a ONE piece 610. Bought the ampeg, traded for SWR and have been grooving ever sense. This thing blows the 610HLF (Ampeg) out of the water. Very versitile. Also the chrome grill is definatey an eye catcher. Only thing I would change, is for this cabinet to have skid plates on the back, and a towel handle like the Ampeg 610. However, I have already made a towel handle and am working on the skid plate. If this was lost.. well I don't believe I could lose it, however if it was stolen, I would hate to be the person carrying it, but I would do whatever I need to do to get another one. Grade A cabinet.

I like the tilt-back design and it's easy to move around for a powerful cabinet. I always try to use the speakon inputs, of course. I usually set the horn dial in the center. It handles a lot of juice so I feed it 900 watts.

Deep and crisp. I can't give it a top rating because the 10-inch speakers don't reproduce the low notes of the 5-string bass as well as I'd lke it to.

I picked the Goliath Sr. over the SVT 8x10 becasue I really admire the SWR tone and durability. I always felt the Ampeg SVT tone was a little "out-dated." I wanted to match the Goliath Sr. up with a 15 or 18 to give it more boom. But overall, it's a wonderful cabinet. I read on the Fender website recently that they upgraded the power handling. So they're turning it into a real monster.

this cab consists of 6x10 speakers in a well constructed box with a horn control on the back and two sprung loaded handles on either side with a large handle and wheels on the back end to make the huge mother of a thing easier to move around.
The cab I bought was the 4ohm version since I was able to get the max power out of the amp I'm currently using, Hartke HA3500 and LIttle Mark Bass 2 (awesome amp!).
Sound Quality
:
10
Being a 4ohm cab full use is made of the power output from both my amps, and the sound is excellent and in fact one of the better cabs out there for a 6x10 and certainly right up there with Ampeg, Eden XLT's and a better unit than the Mark Bass 6x10 cab I was considering at the time. The cab was secondhand and the price was too good for the quality of this unit soundwise. Its great for slap, funk, jazz, basically anything your heart desires with a bit of tweaking on your amp/guitar tone controls you can achieve anything with this and if you cant you're the problem not the cab.

Mine is secondhand and bought from a regular gigging muso who has had no problems with it.
I have pumped a lot of volume out of this thing and it seems unbreakable.
SWR cabs are well renowned for reliability (apart from some of their combo units) so I'm not expecting to have any probs with this one.

Its a great sounding cab providing you have a decent amp to make use of the tones this thing can pump out at various volumes, a very capable and well recommended cab.
I'm using a Yamaha BB604, Fender Jazz and Precision basses with Little Mark Bass amp. - Sounds great for all types of music.

I had this cab from 1996-98. 6 10's, tweeter with adjustable level, side sping loaded handles, and single angled back handle for the tilt-back casters in which to transport it like an SVT 810 (in theory). Metal grill. Ported just like the Goliath II cab.
Sound Quality
:

Very versattile. More bottom then the Goliath II. I bought this with the Idea that I could acomplish a sound similar to my SVT cab that I had before this. This was not the case. The Goliath cabs are ported, thus don't have the tight punch you'll find in an SVT. Otherwise it made for a great cab suited well for more tone driven styles. I missed the drive of the SVT and traded this cab as fairly quickly. The only other cab I a/b'ed this cab with was a Genz Benz 6x10, and this cab blew it away.

SWR was building everything indestructable in the era of my Goliath SR, I've heard mixed mixed things on the newer SWR gear (I mean the Mo' Bass, give me a break). The cab wasn't really that much more convenient that the SVT810E, and the handle provided for the tilt-back was great for smashing your hand (the "towel bar" on the back of the SVT810E, and SVT610HLF is much smoother). Other then that no flaws.

I've owned 4 different SWR cabs, one preamp, and one combo. The only one I had a problem with was the preamp, and it was used so I never had to contact custome service.

For heavy rock, metal, or punk, this cab will work, but it's not overly aggressive. As far as a botique ported cab, it ranks right up there with the compatition.

This cabinet has six 10" speakers and an adjustable horn (which I don't use--it can distort in an unpleasant way if you play with a pick). Mono.
Ampeg-style tilt back & roll design. Super heavy-duty construction. Like a tank.

I mostly play a Jazz bass and an old aluminum-necked Kramer with a solid state Kustom 250 head. Sounds amazing!! Apacalyptically loud, but defined. Can be really treble-y (like with a pick) or nice and boomy, dub-style sounding.
I moslty play very loud avant-garde punk rock, so I play this cabinet loud and growly and it usually fills (or clears) a room.

I did blow a speaker once, but in the context on an extremely loud noise band, it didn't seem to matter too much (5 speakers still worked and rocked...). I can't hold the blown speaker against SWR; I was probably doing something stupid. I would never need a backup cab (not that I'd have room for one...)

I've been playing bass for about 10 years on an amateur basis. I bought this cab because I used to have one of those horrible Peavey 1x18+2x10 cabs. The Peavey speakers blew; I wanted to replace that with something I'd NEVER have to replace. I couldn't transport an SVT cab, so I got this--and think it actually sounds BETTER than the few SVT cabs I've played (less distorted in the super-low frequencies).
I kinda hate how big&heavy it is, but that's just physics!! How else to get that HUGE SOUND??
Also: it IS pretty expensive, but hey, what are student loans for?? If you can scrape the money together, this cabinet is pretty amazing. You won't need to buy anything else anytime soon. I'd buy it again once I saved up some cash...

I bought 2 of these cabinets in 1996. I've since sold one to buy a SWR Goliath-III. The Goliath SR has very good low-end response compared to my Goliath-III. It's a real punchy beast and handles 1000W RMS. I use the Senior on large stage gigs, the "III" I use on smaller stages or when I can't find anyone to help me lift it into my truck.

I play classic rock,R&B,soul, fusion,& country. The Sr. handles them all well, although I have 11 different basses to choose from to suit the style I'm playing. As with every SWR product I've owned or tried, the Sr. sounds great.

A speaker in my first Sr. went bad while it was still under warranty. My dealer sent it back and SWR re-coned it. As I recall,my cabinet was'nt out of service very long. Overall, the Sr. is a very reliable cabinet. I have'nt had any problems with the Sr. I now use. I run my G-K 2000RB at 1000W bridged-mono, the Sr. handles it with ease. Bottom line is that I'm never concerned about the Sr. making it through a gig.

I've had my Sr. for 6 years and I'm quite pleased with it. It has a real beefy bottom end and a good tone. But I'd buy another Goliath-III 4-10 if it were stolen. The Golaith-III is a lot easier to move by myself and I like it's tone better. The Sr. is kind of hard to carry up a flight of stairs by myself. My only complaint is the black ozite carpet-covering. It's hard to keep clean and my cat thinks my cabinets are scratching posts! I wish all the manufacturers that use black ozite to cover their products would consider using whatever Ampeg uses on their Pro series cabinets, it looks more durable.I've been playing for 25+ years. I also own an Ampeg SVT-II Pro head and the hernia sized Classic 8-10 cabinet. My amp of choice with my SWR cabinets is a Gallien-Krueger 2000RB.
