I am not sure how old the amp is. I was told it was made in 1990. This amp rocks! I play different styles of music including country, classic rock, 80s stuff, reggae, jazz, blues, etc etc... and this head steps up to the plate. With a couple of pre-set tones, and the 7 band eq, I can pretty well get whatever sound i need pretty quickly. It has all the bells and whistles with 2 outputs, tuner, line out blah blah.... but the thing I like about this Trace Elliot is the punch. I play inside and outside... and when in a room, it fills the entire room, and guitar players tell me to turn down. My drummer started wearing earplugs after I bought this amp. When we are outside is when I get to crank it up to about half way. Sometimes we run a line out, but when we dont I have fun pushing air!

I use a 74 Fender P, a 1980 Peavey t 40, and a little peavey mellinium bass when my back is hurting. This amp has always given me a clean sound no matter what style of music i play. With the tube preamp, I can get that old P bass sound, and then by adjusting eq little im back punching the guitar player out. Its hard to describe, the clarity and volume at the same time. I have used a 4 x 10 cab and a 2 X 15 cab with ths amp. When I use both cabs, I cant stand in front of them! wow! I would say this amp is the loudest i have owned, that would stay so clean even at high levels.

Reliability : 10
This thing is built to withstand an elephant! Its heavy as heck... 40 lbs I think. But it is in its own trace elliot case, so the amp is well protected, and the black light on the front looks bad a$$ in a dark room, it lights up the panel and stands out on stage. I have a backup amp but never carry it. Im sure the tube will go out eventully, but for now its still going strong. I usually leave this amp running the entire gig, just muting it when taking a break. this this has runn for 5 hours and never even felt hot!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I email trace elliot web site when I first got it and the emailed me the link to download it within an hour! Other than that I have never had issues to need to contact them.

Ive been playing since the early 80s, and have used Fender, Peavey Hartke, Sunn, Swr, Ampeg, Hughes Keffner, and now trace.. I would have to say Trace Elliot is the best. Its the clarity that I enjoy. No matter what tone or volume. The sound is very clean and responsive. This amp allows me to cut out the clutter, and add the bass groove Im laying down. This one is my favorite. Its a rare head though, I havent seen many out there. if it were lost or stolen, I would start looking for another one, and I would want to replace it with the exact head! Plenty of headroom! Im not sure if the smaller trace elliots would compare.

this amp has the gp7 eq, bi amp capacity, hi low / stereo output, effects loop, mint pre-amp, 600w per channel i think. 1200 total rms. awesome amount of horse power in this old beast. active/passive input. di output. all the bells and whistles any bassist needs

Sound Quality : 10
i use a 94 fender precision special with active p & j pick ups and a 63 resissue fender jazz. both sound AWESOME through this head had a few issues when i first got it due to a bad cabinet with it thought the head was jsut horrible now i use a custom 4X10 cab and a trace elliott 4x10 as well found the trace 4x10 had no mids or high tones just low. added the extra, ran it in bi amp and i LOVE it. i've owned fender bassmans, marshall super basses, peavey session bass amps and this amp cleans up all round on those amps. it have a nice distortion sound when i wanna play brutal low end stuff, and the nicest mid/highs for jazz i've found. i really like this amp.

Reliability : 10
