This is a follow up review. Same as my comments in the review below. Good features. I find the distortion useless is does not sound good.

As mentioned above, this is a FOLLOW UP to my previous posted below. I went through 4 units as they kept blowing up. This is my 5th unit and I find the sound is lacking in this one in a big way. Traynor claims to have changed something to prevent the amp from blowing up but as for sound....Not there. It sounds dull and lifeless. Sounds nothing like the first 4 DB800 heads I tried but they blew up within 1 hour of play.

This is where this amp sucks! I bought the DB 800 H and matching 808 cab (8X8inch)speakers. As mentioned above this is my 5th repalcement head as they kept blowing up. I had again a speaker fall apart last weekend....This is the second speaker to fall apart while I am playing. I received this 5th replacement amp with the pre-amp selector switch deffective. I am still waiting for the sleeve for this thing as there did not have any sleeves built when they sent the amp to me....It has weeks already....What ever happened to my beloved Traynor name brancd? To tell the truth I am DONE with Traynor. They are good for replacing stuff when it does not work or breaks but this is ridiculious. As soon as I can get rid of this rig I will be getting a Markbass rig. Although I am Canadian and have always bought Yorkville\Traynor stuff for many many many years it is time for me to move on. Sorry Traynor, you have lost me as a customer

They have been good but I do not feel I can mention the deffective pre-amp switch. They would want me to send it back and I would be without an amp for a few weeks and that is unacceptable. I play in 2 bands.

Amp for sale....New traynor DB800 head with matching cab. What really irks me is that I will loose money with this thing. I bought and paid for this amp in Feb 2008 got in NOV 2008 and as Dec 1st 2008 it is for sale....Very disapointing.

All the features one could want to make bass sound great!Very flexible although I do not use the "distortion" function for other than the occasinal volume boost.
This amp is a "hybrid" amp with a tube input and solid state power amp. The power is increadible!
UPDATE:
This is an update to the review I just posted. I must have scewed something up because the numbers ( rating) I gave this amp are not the ones showing. I gave this amp ( Traynor DB 800) all 9's and 10.
Please forgive the speklling mistakes....2 kids and a baby at me during the writing and I was trying to get this done between KID demands!!!

Really good sound quality at "outrageous volume. I play this through a TC 808 ( 8 x 8inch speakers) and it kicks ass! Very quiet at LOUD volume with sigle coil "Fender P bass". I fear for my house foundation when my son plays his bass.Very high quality unit, made in Canada ( I will not by Chines made equipement) No offense China but I have kids that will need jobs in a few years! I wish we would all make thge decision to by American or Canadian!
I am impressed with this unit. I have also the YBA 200 and although the tone is great with Svetlana 6550's this is much louder and way more flexible. The knobs do what they say! Get whatever sound you want at any volume you want. I ordered mine with the sleeve ( not rackmount) and it looks as good as it sounds. This is a brand new model based on the old Yorkville XS 800. No more input LED's but whatever, I look forward when I play not back at the amp. I do not use the distortion as mentioned above but it make a good foot switchable volume boost. The resonance control works like a charm, the compressor works great. Everything you need and more! I do not give 10s here because I have not played every amp out there but this is close to perfection to my ears. I played with Traynor guitar and bass amps and PA's as a kid and now at 45 years old Yorkville\Traynor is all I own. Elite speakers, YCS100 Guitar amp and this DB800 and TC808 cab. I even use a Yorkville lighting system that works really! All this stuff is great quality at a reasonable price. I am CANADIAN, so is my beer and music gear!
UPDATE: As an update, 1 jam in with the DB 800 and by far the best bass amp ever played in my jam space

I have never had an issue with any of my Yorkville\Traynor stuff. Quality products from a company that wants "return" customers. No question the best warranty I know!
Update: YORKVILLE....What is left to say

These guys are great! They say Real gear for Real people" and they are not kidding. You get a polite an kind canadian on the phone when you call with questions. They do not tell you : Buy our gear. ...They tell you to try other brands and compare the quality and sound and make a decision. When you compare on the base of quality, sound and value....They cannot be beat. Just my opinion. I have owned other amps ( Mesa, Orange...) no one tells it like Yorkville\Traynor. For the record I have NO affiliation with this company other owning allot of their gear.

Try the branch names and do yourself a favor take the time to try a brand that is not hyped in the magazines. Then buy whatever you want and live with it!
From what I see ( more what I do not see) Traynor does not pay for adverts. in the guitar and base mags but instead hears their clients and develops great products at a great price.
UPDATE:
Just a great product,.....No hype no celeb. endoresements,,,,Just a quality unit with good sound
