This is a bass combo featuring a hand-wired 100W solid state amp and a single 10" speaker. It was designed to have a warm "tube" sound using MOSFET's, and it delivers in a clean and accurate way. It is a single channel amp with one input, a headphone jack, balanced direct out and effects loop send and receive. It has two speaker jacks, with the the built in speaker using one of them. It has a three tone controls (low, mid, and high) that gives reasonable flexibility in shaping sound, but is basically pretty simple. I bought it new about 12 years ago (it was made in 1995).
And one feature I hadn't even considered when I purchased it - it is a perfect height for sitting on, great for impromptu jam sessions.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using an old Fender Telecaster bass (original P-bass re-issue), an F-bass 5 string fretless with active pick-ups and an upright acoustic bass. For practices, jamming, coffee-houses, churches and recording, this amp is all I need. On the odd occasion in a bar playing with electric guitars and drums, it makes a decent monitor with the send signal going to the PA. It is virtually silent until I lean my old Fender up against it, then it will really start to hum (so I just don't do that). The Fender with it's single pick-up and single tone control doesn't have a very wide tonal palette, but the fretless F-bass is a totally different story. This amp does a great job in reproducing all its wonderful tones, and even handles the low B very well. It can sound brighter than expected considering there is no tweeter. It even makes a good natural sounding amp for acoustic guitars, better than several less expensive "acoustic" amps I've heard. It still sounds clean even when turned up. But it is a single 10" speaker after all, so don't be expecting the "punched-in-the gut" feeling a big high-powered box will give you.
For the upright bass, I'd probably rate it as adequate at this point. I rarely amplify my upright, so haven't really found the right combination of settings for the pick-up and amp to get the sound I'm looking for. Not sure if the problem is the amp, the pick-up or me.

Reliability : 10
I have been using this amp for 12 years taking it out of the house on an almost weekly basis in all weather and it works as good as new, and almost looks like new, too. No trace of noise in the pots. My unit has been very reliable. It is covered in a retro-looking yellow tweed vinyl that has stood up very well (not sure if all of them were).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use it, so no comment. I understand Genz-Benz bought Tube Works some years ago. It is out of production, and obviously, it is out of warranty. I don't know if Genz-Benz is providing support for these units or not.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about forty years and now find myself generally playing in the folk style now using an old Fender P-bass, an F-bass 5 string fretless with active pick-ups and an upright acoustic bass. For practices, jamming, coffee-houses, churches and recording, this amp is all I need. On the odd occasion in a bar playing with electric guitars and drums, it makes a decent monitor with the send signal going to the PA. It still sounds clean even when turned up. I spent a long time looking for a high quality, good sounding amp in a small package and I finally found it in this 37 pound wonder. This amp is simply a perfect fit for my needs, and I am as happy with it now as I was when I bought it. If this is the kind of amp you're looking for and you can find a used one in decent shape, grab it. And, no, you can't have mine.

This is an update to my previous post below.
Notes:
a). The speaker is a single 10 inch, and not a 12 inch as I previously stated.
b). The DI out is pre EQ and also pre effects loop. In other words, it's completely "dry", but oh so nice for recording!

Sound Quality : 9
Being a 10" and not 12" explains the lack of ultra low end. But after all this time, the sound remains strong, distinct and pleasing. I've cranked it to about 2 o'clock in order to be heard above the rest of the band, and the amp simply won't distort or color!
The more you play it, and it warms up, its almost as if the tone warms a bit as well. But maybe that's just the beer! ;^)
As good as this is, it won't keep up with a full band in performance.

Reliability : 10
Stone solid. 'Nuff said!!!

Haven't needed repair.
All my requests for information/answers have been thoroughly answered within 24 hours (by email).

It was a bit of a surprize to discover that the effects I use didn't come through the DI when I recorded. Having the effects inline with the bass resolves that.
This amp has served me well for the past few years for practice and small jams. I'm staying on the lookout for a bigger Tube Works amp for gigs, as I've had nothing but good experience with them so far.
I've not found any other combo this size that sounds this good.

This is a bass amp combo. I'm putting it in here until H-C can get a separate bass amp category online.
Single input
Volume, Low, Mid, High Tone
Headphone jack
Effects loop
Direct out
2 speaker jacks
This is a 100W all tube practice/small gig combo bass amp. It's built real solid.

Sound Quality : 10
For only being 100W and 12", this is a potent unit! I'm looking forward to hooking it up to an external cabinet for more low end OOMPH! but it meets my needs.
The amp is absolutely quiet when you're not playing; no hum, hiss, etc.
The tone controls cover a large frequency spectrum, and you can actually hear minute changes.
It was good enough to show me how bad my axe is (old Aria Pro II Cat).

Reliability : 10
Solid, solid, solid.
It's built tough, but it doesn't really leave the house.
It's never failed in the year I've had it.
Not even dust crackles from the pots.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to turn to anyone for support (see reliability)

I've been playing bass for a number of years, and finally decided not to buy crap anymore. This amp has been my first significant step, making it a pleasure to be able to hear myself clearly, and get the tones I've longed for.
I was looking at Hartke, Genz-Benz and Ampeg, and I found this one by chance on ebay. Lucky me! It had barely been used at all.
Since this model is no longer in production, if I lost it somehow, I would get a new Tube Works combo with the 15" speaker.
