1971 black does eveything I could ever expect it to 2 channel with normal and bright on each and a boost feature on chanel 2 I run her through a fender 2x15 cab with a rickenbacker 4003 it has more than enough power for small to medium venues but will need to be miked for out door events

This amp is a vintage 1971, all tube tone monster. I use it to play rock, hard rock and metal. The amp has two channels, each with bright and normal inputs. There is a three band EQ and presence adjustment. You can adjust the impedence to 2,4 and 8 ohms to accomodate almost any cabinet combination. Oh yeah, there are FOUR speaker outputs. Also the front surface has a grill so you can see the tubes from the front, a nice cosmetic touch. Oh ya, its built like a tank and weighs about the same too.

I am running it through an Eden 112T Cabinet and my bass is a Burns London Scorpion (passive pickups). I use a Charvel Fusion IV as a backup (active pickups). I also use a boss Line Selecter and a boss ds-1 for some fuzz, using the Line Selecter to mix clean and distortion tones. I can't imagine this amp not being able to accomodate any style. Its warm, clear with lots of bottom end. Once the tubes warm up it will growl a bit too, then kick in an od or distortion pedal and it roars. As for volume, it depends on the cabinets you are using and how many, also the impedence. I have not run into any situation yet that I am underpowered.

Ok, it was built 37 years ago and still works like new. As is true with all tube amps it requires routine maintainance and please, use the standby switch.

Alright, I paid 300 bones for this baby and it absolutely kills. I've heard that some guys use it for a guitar amp and they rave about it as well. If you don't want to shell out a couple grand and want tube tone and lots of headroom, this is your amp.

According to my research this amp was made in 1971. I was looking for an old all tube bass amp and I didn't want to shell out a lot of $$$. I read about this model at www.univox.org and I looked for one on Ebay. Mine is the two tone blue version and it is in excellent condition with only the original grey tear drop knobs having been replaced with black chicken heads. The amp is rated at 105 Watts with 2-12AX7s, 1-12AU7, and 4 6L6s. I have replaced the 6L6s with 6550s and I think the amp puts out more like 130 Watts now. It has had the 6550s in for over a year now without any trouble. I've paired it with a 4 ohm Eden 410XLT, which is very efficient, so my set up is very loud and sufficient to compete with a loud drummer, keys and two loud guitarists. It features two channels with bright and normal inputs, a volume for each channel, bass, middle, treble and presence. I use a patch cord to connect the bright input of channel 2 to the normal input of channel one. Then I plug my bass into the normal input of channel two. This configuration lets me blend both channels so that the channel one volume is normal and the channel two volume is bright. I generally run both at noon, bass at 4 o'clock, middle and treble at 2 o'clock and precense at 10 o'clock. The amp is switchable among 2, 4 and 8 ohms and has 4 speaker outputs. No DI, effects loops, or headphone jack nonsense. It is pretty basic. I use the amp for a classic/original rock band. It has enough power for indoors, outdoor venues may need more.

I use it with a '62 Vintage Jazz and a '51 Precision reissue. I think it sounds like a more powerful B-15N (which I also have) and it has a lot of clean headroom. The amp is not noisy at all. It has been checked out and set up by an expert and its functions great. With the two channels blended I can dial in more bass for reggae or emphasize the higher tones fairly easily. There is some warm distortion that begins around 1 o'clock and it sounds great to my ears, very Cream-esque.

The 6550s do not seem to make the amp run much hotter than normal. It seems reliable and hasn't let me down yet. I take good care of my equipment though. Its almost as old as I am so if its still going strong then its reliable.

I've been playing nearly 20 years. I own two other 1X15 cabs, an Ampeg B-15N, a black and grey Univox U-1246 B Group head (with the same features as the U-1061 but with only 2-6L6s which I've switched for KT66s). I play classic rock and alternative country with these set ups through Fender basses and a Gibson Thunderbird. I like this amp a lot and you can still get them for cheap. I highly recommend one as a lower priced alternative to a Bassman 100, Traynor or Ampeg V4B.
