Tuff! Giged with it for 15 or more years and not a single problem. It's been bashed and crashed and still went on ticking!

I play all styles and love this preamp for anything. Its just no frills bass tone! Very simple to use and sounds super clean. I liked mine so much, I bought another as a back-up. If your looking for alot of flash and bells and lights and whistles......this is not for you, but if you want to hear what your bass and hands can do, this is for you!!!

Reliability : 8
Built like a tank, pretty heavy for a 1 space preamp. The only part thats ever took a shit on me is the small plastic grommet that surrounds the power button. Even with that part missing, it still will power up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Neither of mine have ever broken down. So I don't know.

Overall Rating : 10
I make my living as a professional bassist and have played thru tons of different rigs. All I have to say is find one on ebay or possibly craigslist and buy one. They go between $100-200. WELL worth the $$$ and if you dont dig it, you wont have any trouble getting your $$ back. Bottom line is that its just a great, clean, natural sounding preamp that for some reason Yamaha discontinued years ago????

One rack space solid state bass preamp made in Japan from the early '80's until the early '90's. Switchable parametric eq, DI, built in crossover, headphone jack.

Used by Tony Levin in King Crimson and by Jeff Berlin for many years.

Sound Quality : 7
Warm and clean sound. Very transparent. The EQ is flexible but the bass, mid, and treble controls don't kick in until about 3/4 of the way up. Not recommended for agressive hard thrash, but superb for rock, jazz, and pop music.

Reliability : 10
Extremely well made. Very reliable with quality components and chasis.

Called Yamaha USA for an owners manual. First attempt was futile. On my second call, a great customer service rep got the item and mailed it to me.

Overall Rating : 7
There is much hype about this preamp. It sounds fine but does not seem to have the presence and cutting power of my SWR Grand Prix. I use passive and active basses: Fender, G&L, and a StingRay. I hear this preamp is good for recording but haven't tried that yet.
