The EMU PIPEline is very small, portbable and easy to figure out. Standard connections make it simple to connect with sound sources and destinations. Independent volume and input trim also give you more control of the audio signal.

Connectivity : 10
Simple RCA and Mini Stereo jacks make it easy to connect to any audio device.

I/O : 10
Sound quality is excellent. Very basic connections for sendind audio without using cables. Very convenient.

Power : 10
A/C powered and has an internal battery for mobile use, like a guitar player who wants to move around without a cable.

Technical specs : No Opinion
Sends Digital signals also, in addition to audio, haven't used that function.

Other : 9
These units are great for either sending an audio signal from point A to B or transmitting a signal to many destinations at the same time, very useful .

Overall : 10
I found the Emu PIPEline so easy to use , even without reading the manual ! Just plugged it all in using common sense (as much as a keyboard player has) and it all worked !

While not really an audio recording interface, the E-MU PIPEline is a wireless transceiver that can send uncompressed lossless audio from one PIPEline unit to another. You could use to record or stream audio from one location to another, or as an inexpensive wireless stage in-ear monitor system.

It is in a white plastic shell, small and cute. Basic controls for volume, on/off, mute and dip switches to configure channel, transmit or receive mode, and analog or digital connections.

Connectivity : 5
It takes a min of 2 PIPEline units to form a basic network with one being configred to transmit and the other to receive. This is called Paired mode. There is another mode called Broadcast mode, where one PIPEline unit is the transmitter and where several or dozens of PIPEline units are configured as receivers. While I only have 2-units at this time, that is an interesting and cool feature.

I/O : 7
The PIPEline has what E-MU calls flexi-jacks. 1/8-inch female connector and stereo female RCA connectors for input or output, analog or digital. The RCA connectors are line level input or output, and when configured for digital (48k S/PDIF only) either RCA jack can be used. The 1/8-inch is a stereo connector for input or earphones/headphones. While 1/4-inch or XLR would be desired, there is no space for such large connectors and the size increase to offer them would trade off the nice, small compact size.

Included are a few short RCA y-cables to interface.

Power : 7
Lithium rechargeable battery that last more than 5-hours and less than 8-hours. Includes 5v power supply for charging the battery or powering the PIPEline unit full-time.

Technical specs : 5
No drivers. Digital I/O is 48k S/PDIF only.

Other : 5
Included in the package is a 5v power supply, a few short RCA y-cables, a holster.case with belt clip and a polish cloth. No software required.

Overall : No Opinion
These PIPEline units are just great. Simple to use and they sync up with one another very fast. With one hooked to up my home stereo as transmitter and one on my belt with the included holster as the receiver, I listened to tunes with earphones as I did yard work. Crystal clear and no drop outs. Pretty cool.

Hooked up some computer speakers to my bedroom and listened to a CD as I went to sleep one night. Again, pretty cool. Connected one as receiver to a small PA system I have in the garage and it worked great there as well.

Got the idea to reverse that and stream the mix from the Mackie board we use in band practice last weekend to the home stereo and recorded band practice on the Mini disc player that doesn't get used much anymore. Very cool.
