I've owned this unit for about a year now, been used mostly for in the studio, making demos, recording band practices, and have also taken it out to record gigs live. I really love this thing, I think the learning curve is a little steep because there is so much layered into it, but once you get comfortable with it it's really easy to use. Quick and easy, that's the key here. Set the recording levels and go. I think the on board effects are fine. You can get fairly involved with mixing after the recording is done. Yes, I wish the screen was bigger also, really the only complaint I have. But really, you get used to it and learn to look at it.

Connectivity : 9
I use the aux sends often for sub mixes, never had a problem with not having enough ways to connect.

I/O : No Opinion

I love this thing. I grew up with analog tape recorders, so the power of a unit like this is overwhelming sometimes. But the ease of use after the full learning curve is incredible, the quality is high, and it sounds great!! I considered the smaller 888 but the 12 channels of recording comes into play to often. I would buy another one if anything happened to this

Its a desk top unit, not really sure if I would call it portable. I dont think I will take it out of the house much. Even though it seems to be nicely built. It has a good heavy metal case and wood sides. The slides and knobs feel good, not loose like some say.The mixing and mastering features are all right there and easy to use although if you've never done any recording it will probably seem kinda difficult and confusing. But once you start learning it will all come together. Keep the owners manual handy.

Connectivity : 6
The USB port is for importing and exporting wave files. It also has Midi in/out. I do use the USB to move songs to my computer then send them via E-mail. I wish I could connect a video moniter to it because the lil screen on it is kinda small

I/O : 9
The preamps sound great. The XLR plugs and the all the other input jacks feel good and solid. It has inputs and outputs to use external effects and other great options. It is easy to from headphones to studio moniters. It also has a built in guitar tuner that works really good.

Power : 9
It does have phantom power for your mics. But the One thing I like about it is after you use it and then shut it down when you come back and power it up everything goes right back just as you left it.

Technical specs : 10
Im not really a technical person but this this has so many options and lots of room for lots of songs. The session drums sound pretty good and are easy to use. The knob matrix controles the eq and all the effects. Plus all the effects sound good too.

Other : No Opinion
Talk about stand alone operation, it really does it all. If you have a good ear mixing songs down is really pretty easy. It has the tools to master your own cds. But all that does take some skill and a good pair of ears.

Overall : 10
Overall this thing is great. It will take some time to learn it and all its functions, especially if you have never done any recording. Ive had mine for a couple of years now and I can turn out some pretty good stuff. Learning the korg D3200 and basic recording techniques has been quite a challenge but it sure has been fun. This is an awesome machine. I love my Korg d3200 and Im sure you will too.

Portable stand alone unit, bought it as an upgrade from my Zoom MRS 1266. Metal casing. The knobs and faders seem loose and flimsy. Some knobs feel tight, the others are loose which has an empty feel to it, same thing with the faders.

Connectivity : 7
USB 2.0 connectivity. Haven't really used it because I bought it primarily as a stand alone recording unit where I can do everything from recording to editing to burning, all in one box.

I/O : No Opinion
8 XLR inputs, dedicated input for guitar/bass, one headphone out. Had to use an external headphone mixer.

Power : 7
AC powered, line cord. Phantom power available for every mic channel.

Technical specs : 5
Bit rate is halved if you want to use all 32 tracks.

Other : 5
No bundled software. Stand-alone operation for sure.

Overall : 1
As noted, I bought this as an upgrade unit but was disappointed. The screen is just way too small to have so much information in it, 2 in. x 2 in. is just waaaaay too small. The little joystick is tricky to use. The first unit I had showed fatal error messages mid-editing after the first 2 hours of use, right out of the box.
Called support, the only thing they could say was, "Oh, this happens." Returned it and got a replacement. The replacement unit had pieces of black plastic inside the screen, which blocked some of the information on the screen. Returned it and got another replacement. The third replacement unit had a loose screen hardware, it would not stay up when placed at an angle. Honestly, the third replacement unit, although it came from a sealed box, looked used. I can see the stripping on some of the screws. Sam Ash swore that it is brand new. Returned it, kinda lost my faith on Korg after this experience. The 3 units themselves did not have any consistency in terms of build. You can practically have them lined up side by side and you can actually see and feel the inconsistencies in terms of the way the knobs and faders worked, as noted some are loose, some are snug. It just seems like they were all in a hurry putting this thing together at the factory in China. The vocals on the demo song clipped and you can actually hear it even at low levels. Totally lacked quality control. 32 tracks for $1299 dollars, you get what you pay for. I give up. I'll keep using my MRS 1266 for now until a new reliable, higher track unit comes up in the market.
