General : 9
Single rack space interface. Multicoloured clip led's for the 10 inputs on the front.

Connectivity : 10
USB 2.0, which has worked flawlessly for me.

I/O : 7
8 Mic pres. Decent quality. 2 line in's with a line in/guitar level switch. Midi i/o.

Biggest flaw for the i\o is that the headphone jack is for live monitoring only with the included Cubase LE4. You can't mix with it.

Power : 10
AC powered, with no wall wart. I wouldn't want it bus powered anyways.

Phantom power has worked well with my Beta87A.

Technical specs : 7
realtime monitoring with headphones. Has new drivers for vista 64 bit. Any sample rates you need are avaliable.

Other : 4
It comes with Cubase LE4. I run a vista 64bit system, and have had nothing but problems. Pops, hiss, cut outs, and crashes with multitrack recording.

I downloaded reaper to see if it was the unit, or software. With the default settings, everything worked flawlessly. It's a pain to use Reaper to record, and Cubase to do everything else (it's much more powerful) but so far, that's my best solution.

Overall : No Opinion
Again, with just cubase, recording my band was awful. Once I started using Reaper to get the tracks down, it worked just as advertised.

The unit is a good value, with the cost near the bottom of the 8+ i/o interfaces. It does what it is supposed to do, as long as your system is ready for it. I wouldn't recommend using a 64bit os, but after some tweaking, fighting with drivers and firmware it works well.

I have been using this product for 2 months,?? I mounted in my rack, I use sonar producer for the software.?? Everything was as advertised.?? All metal construction, clip indicator are light green to red. USB 2 is faster than firewire.?? Controlls are all firm and strong.??

Connectivity : 9
USB 2 is great, faster than firewire, I use a designated board for just the 1641.?? It connected to the computer with no Problem, Vista.I had to disable the sound card in the computer to record in 24.?? Learning curve is pretty short.

I/O : 8
6 XLR and 1/4 for guitars, head phone jack all works well

Power : 10
Internal phantum power for each XLR channel. Unit is poweredby an AC cord.

Technical specs : 10
Records at 16 to 24 directly onto assigned tracks total of 8 at a time, Excellent quality recordings.

Other : 8
Comes with free software, haven't used them, instructions to use them looks good.

Overall : 10
This is an outstanding product, the best I have used. my last interface was M-audio PreUSB OK, 2 channels, more difficult to set up and get functioning but very usable.
I would recommend this to anyone. No regrets just smiles on my face.

The US-1641 has so much promise. Great price point, unbeatable number of ins...but it Just. Doesn't. Work. I've recorded 9 channels simultaneously, but am unable to play back more than 3 at a time without horrible digital crackling and distortion. Playing back the same tracks one at a time, each track is fine. Spent lots of time on the phone with Tascam, this is my second unit, because the 1st one was defective, and it has the same issue. An all in one interface that can't play back what it just recorded is no good. I've tried this on two different computers, three different operating systems, all with the same result. Just want to warn people. Only reason it's not a 1 is because it actually does record as advertised.

Connectivity : 5
Part of me want to blame USB 2.0 for the suckiness, but that seems to be the easy way out.

I/O : No Opinion

Power : No Opinion

Technical specs : No Opinion

Massive fail. Seems like such a great unit that I spent hours and hours sure that something in my setup was causing the problem, when in reality, the US-1641 doesn't work.

Works as advertised. I've recorded 10 simultaneous inputs of our band so far without hardly any trouble. Using Sony Acid Pro 6. Got them talking without much effort. Just follow the instructions. Computer is Compaq AMD64 running WinXP. I'd recommend finding the "tuning one's PC for audio recording tips" out their on the web if you haven't. It's rack mounted...metal...very sleek with attractive chrome knobs. Might be a little too compact for folks with big fingers. Has a mix feature so you can control the amount of live vs computer audio volume when overdubbing. Trim indicators are nice. Green when good, turns yellow then red if you're going too far.

Connectivity : No Opinion
USB 2.

I/O : 9
Preamps seem very quite to us. 8 XLR inputs with phantom power and 2 1/4 inch with line or guitar input switch on front. 4 more 1/4 inch balanced inputs on rear...switchable DB level control. Has headphone volume on front and 2 separate sets of stereo balanced line outs on rear in addition balanced stereo monitor out. Separate monitor control volume control on front. Midi in/out and S/PDIF coax on back. The Mix control between input and computer is nice, I think the overall volume could be a little louder.

Power : 9
Built in power.

Technical specs : 10
Up to 96kHz/24-bit Audio Resolution. Have Sony Acid's latency set in the default setting and haven't had any monitoring issues. Again I'd recommend tuning your computer for audio recording if you haven't. Had a few minor latency issues at first. Once tuned it's worked great.

Other : 9
Includes Steinberg Cubase LE 4 and TASCAM Continuous Velocity Piano.

Compatibility with ASIO, GSIF2, CoreAudio Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Cubase, SONAR, Nuendo, Final Cut Pro, Vegas, Soundtrack, Live, GigaStudio, and more.

Overall : 9
Product has performed expected and better. Great bang for the buck for more than basic computer multi-track recording connectivity. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but for the price it's well worth it.
