To get the most out of this unit, you need a computer to do the routing. Drivers are stable and fast.

These are going for less than $500 now, and in my mind that is a steal (if you can find one)!
One of the most solid pieces of audio gear I've ever used, incredibly flexible and capable, with terrific sound quality.
If mine were damaged or stolen, I'd hunt another down immediately!

Firewire IEEE1394.
I'm using all 18 channels. 1 and 2 for inputs, 3-8 fx sends and returns, my tc electronic Finalizer (on 9 and 10) and a Behringer ADA8000 for the remaining fx send and returns on channels 11-18.
It works beautifully.
Cubase software forgets the settings now and then and I have to reallocate the channels once a week at least. That's not a prob with the unit, its Cubase...
But it works so well when its all connected.
I have a TC02 optical compressor on inserts for channel 1 and 2 to catch any stray transients during recording and that's just about it.
Not bad for recent technology (they sell for about $350 now, they were $1400)

It's hardy and pristine.
It's never faltered or broken down in the 5 years I've been using it.
I would replace with a spare because it's so reliable.
Every musician that has been here wants one (one guy just tracked one down for himself), it's just so clear and easy and sounds great.
Leaves Protools pres for dead even on the new gear.
You can link more than one together in mLan to really go crazy if you wish.
Bought mine new on special.
