Type and Construcion
:
I am using the 10" and 12" Celtic Bells from their standard series (Not Street FX). These are made of a sheet metal cut to cross shapes, with tambourine jingles added for sizzles.
Sound Quality
:
10
As the name implies, these are bell effect cymbals, on their own producing a very clear and well pitched tone, and the 10" and 12" compliment each other well. Jingles add a distinct sizzle that seems to last forever. Tip and shoulder strikes are very different from each other and shoulder crashes done lightly enough will produce a smooth and consistent sizzle or slosh sound.
Reliability/Durability
:
8
These are fairly thick and the material will bend before cracking, and can easily be bent back to the original shape. I havent had this happen yet, with some very heavy bashing too. However, other FMP products are advertised as being tunable via bends like this. Not as rock solid as a ZilBel or Ice Bell, and you have to make sure you properly tighten the jingles or they can come flying off while playing.
Customer Support
:
No Opinion
No dealings with FMP CS but do to their size, they seem to be easy to communicate with. I was able to contact them regarding their release of the Street FX series with ease via email.
Overall Rating
:
9
FMP has earned a place among my high end Zildjians as a reliable, cheap and unique effect line. I use the bells, as well as a Gothic Radius and 10" Street FX Cross Crasher. They always get comments and oohs and ahhs at shows from drummers and other people.
I plan to get more of the FMP products, and perhaps an 8" celtic bell to get even more pitches on my kit.
