Typical hardware, but very well constructed, very solid. Lugs stay tight. Mine is gunmetal, dark silver w/ a green/blue tint. It has a laminate wrap around the shells, not a finish. Still holds its own cosmetically however. You have the option of the Rock Pro Rock or Rock Pro Fusion, the difference being the size of the toms. The Pro Rock has 12", 13", and 16" toms, and the Pro Fusion has 10", 12", and 14" toms. Mine is the Fusion kit. The stands are excellent, the hi hat stand is sturdy, wish the clutch held the cymbal a little flatter though, all solid though.

Sound Quality : 9
These are mahogany/basswood shells, that sound warm and midrange-bassy, a good deal of resonance. Drums are easy to tune, wish they had a little more attack though. Sound beautiful with new heads, especially evans ec2s. They do flatten out though, but thats more a review of the head. The bass drum is punchy and resonant, warm and bassy. I like the 10" tom a lot, and the snare has a great tite woody tone for package at this price. Compared to a tama rockstar, this blows it away.

Reliability/Durability : 9
With good heads this thing would be fine for small venues, and would certainly hold up to any kind of abuse. Once thing I like about the laminate wrap is its protective value. They need to be tuned about every 2 or 3 weeks with low to moderate play - probably do to the room they are in - not the best climate control.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had anything close to a problem yet, been 2 years.

Overall Rating : 10
This kit was perfect for me. I'm an entry level drummer, actually a guitarist, but I enjoy drumming as well. This kit is the best 'entry level kit' you can get, absolutely. Musicians friend actually lists it in their 'intermediate' drum kit section, however it is Taye's base model. Ray is really on to something with this company. Our local music store recently began carrying Taye products, and I got a chance to play a Taye studio maple, best kit I've ever played, hands down. I really like the snare, the pedal functioned fine, but I put an Iron cobra dblbass on it. These kits are so solid, this is the best kit you can get for its price range.
