This pedal is really complex. The trim pots underneath really effect the sound dramatically. You really have to spend time dialing it in- once you do though...it's great. Easy build- good instructions- although I was missing a resistor- no worries though, Radio Shack is nearby.

Sound Quality : 9
This really can do phaser, chorus and vibe- I really liked the vibe settings on this- can also do some crazy ring modulation.

Reliability : 10
I built it- so I know what's what, yo.

Customer Support : 9
good communication with Dan- easy to deal with.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This pedal wasn't really for me- I liked it, but just wasn't exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking to soundscape, definitely consider it as an option.

Ease of Use : 8
I built this one from the parts kit. It's definitely not a "plug and play" kind of effect. But with a little bit of patience and experimentation, you can get some very unique sounds from it.

Sound Quality : 9
Here is my setup:
Fender MIJ jazz master (Curtis Novack PUs)
1990's Fender Telecaster (Alnico II pro humbucker in bridge)
1969 Fender Silverface Twin Reverb

With the exception of a TU-2 tuner and an EH Holy Grail Plus, I'm using 7 other pedals that were made by myself. These include a maestro fsh clone, dod250 clone, pt-delay, big muff triangle clone, pulsar clone, bronx cheer, and an orange squeezer clone.

The Positives are:
A) Wonderful organic sound! It goes from Phase 45 land to Love Tone Doppelganger world to univibe universe.
B)It is very lush, yet subtle (if that makes sense). This pedal excels in it's subtlety.
C)It plays nicely with others. I can use a multitude of effects, pre or post, and it still sounds nice and swishy.

Negatives are:
A) there is a perceived volume difference between the Opto and Transistor modes I wasn't able to hash out, even with resistor changes.
B)It is a tad noisy on the transistor side, but that is to be expected with transistors.

Reliability : No Opinion
I built it, so if it breaks it's my own stupid fault. But I believe in it. It's been in my setup for a year now with no issues.

4ms is fantastic. You'll get your questions answered right away. Highly recommended.

Overall Rating : 10
I play in an indie rock band. I've been playing with them for over 10 years now and have tried a number of phaser pedals during that time.

Subtlety! Subtlety! Subtlety! Need I say more? So many phaser pedals I've tried are so over the top, even at some of the lowest settings, that they are completely unusable musically. I would dismiss the lot of them as "gimmicky" at best. There are really only a handful of good ones, and the phaseur fleur captures most of them.

The Phaseur Fleur has the Phase 45, Doppelganger, Univibe, and Mutron down cold. But having the ability to blend between the transistor and photocell modes gives it an additional edge over them. The only other phaser pedal that is still in it's own category is the Small Stone, due to the fact it is IC based and therefore, is a completely different animal.

It is a bit complicated and there are numerous versions of this pedal you can get. It's not exactly easy to get a good sound out of it but its not so difficult that you can't. It's hard to comment on this since the pedal you buy would probably cosmetically be different than mine.

Sound Quality : 7
As a phaser mine gives a nice watery kind of phase. The LFO can also make things interesting. It's not exactly my favorite phaser but I don't really use it for that. I used it more for special effects. It has sounded good out of everything that I have played it through (Strat, Tele, multiple amps). It's not exactly silent, but it isn't overly noisy either. The effects don't always sound great, but there are so many settings that I don't really expect it to sound great all the time.

Reliability : 6
Well, it hasn't exactly failled me but I don't trust it. I got it off of ebay so I don't really know where it has been. I wouldn't use mine at a gig without a backup.

It sounds good. If your looking for something different then 4ms pedals are a good place to invesitgate. They have all kinds of crazy things. If it were lost or stolen I wouldn't buy another (Unless I found another cheap on Ebay). The pedal I have is fun but is kind of a novelty.

The phaser I had built is a 14 knob, 3 foot switch, dual lfo with almost all the bells and whistles and some custom mods built in. It took some time to figure out the effects that I was looking to get out of this pedal, but they were all there. Dann is happy to answer any questions both before and after purchase. I knew when I orderd that my pedal would be complex, but I also knew that it would be the most flexible phase pedal available at any price. Dann also builds much simpler versions, but my reccomendation is to go wild and order as many features as possible. Dann can do just about anything you can dream up!!

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this pedal as part of my dual pedal board setup. On one board I have a barber tone press, jersey girl middranger, ernie ball volume pedal, fulltone fat boost, 2 fulldrive 2 pedals, barber direct drive ss, fulltone distortion pro, fulltone 69 fuzz, fulltone mini deja vibe, zvex super duper, and finally an ayan smooth and slim. This board is run into the amp (Marshall voodoo modified tsl100 or polytone minibrute 2, or fender blues deville, blues delux. The other board is run is the effects loop of whatever amp I am using. FoxxRoxx TZF flanger, 4MS(formerly 3MS) Phaseur Fleur, fulltone choralflange, fulltone supatrem, maxon ad80, ibanez ad99, Maxon ad999, maxon ad900, zvex superduper, barber launch pad.

I use both les paul and strat style guitars. This pedal sounds great both in this setup and direct into the front end of a clean amp. Dann extended the range of the Blend knob so I can go from no effect at all to 100% out of phase vibrato and anything in between (normal phase is when the knob is set to 50%) I can get that van halen style phase as well as just about any other style possible. Most importantly, I can get a uniqe phase sound unlike any other depending on she settings of the unit. Dann also added a couple of output volume knobs, so I can match output levels as needed. If I turn them up all of the way, they can be noisy. The noise is a result of the noise already in the system being boosted. When run at reasonable levels this unit is not noisy at all. All electronic devices introduce some noise, but this unit is much less noisy than other Phasers on the market. This pedal does what it is designed to do and does it well.

Reliability : 10
I have used this pedal at several gigs and it has worked flawlessly. The construction is solid and the components are high quality. Dann puts internal voltage regulation in this pedal so you don't need to use a regulated power supply (actually you get a better sound when you use the supplied non-regulated power supply than when a regulated power supply is used). Dann will repair the pedal for the life of the user, awesome warranty!!!

Customer Support : 10
Dann was exceptionally helpful from beginning to end and answered all questions promptly.

Overall Rating : 10
This product is better than I had expected it to be due to the fact that it is a cusom modified unit. If you like Phase effects and like control over the parameters of the effects, then this is for you. Dann has standard versions, but the best value is to get something unique. I like this pedal just as much as my foxx roxx TZF flanger. Dann does mods, customs, and unique better than any other pedal manufacturer.

Not as easy as the Phase 90 I had before. There are five knobs on mine and it does involve some tweaking to get the sound your after. However, the good news is that the sound is in there somewhere.

Sound Quality : 9
I finally found my phaser sound! For a long time I was fixated on the pitchbend style flanger sound of The Byrds "Wasn't born to Follow." This pedal is the closest I've ever gotten. By turning the "Ring" knob all the way up the phaser goes slightly out of tune as the phase comes in. Analog modulation is supposed to add a detuning effect and this pedal does it perfectly. I wish it had a regen knob for a bit of self-oscillation/feedback kinda tones. It kicks butt anyway.

Reliability : 10
Great

4ms is the best. Hi Dann!

This phaser been a fixed on my board. It works well with any kind of music and is extremely flexible. It make take awhile to find the sound you're looking for but it's probably in here somewhere.

It takes some time to figure out. I have a 2-LFO version and so tweaking with the way the two interact through their overlapping cycles took a few days to understand what I was doing. But Dann, the maker, is available through email to answer questions.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this mainly with a Tele with Harmonic Design Vintage Plus pickups into a DRRI w/ a Weber Blue Dog alnico. Unlike the first review below from quite a few years ago, there is no noise through this pedal when bypasssed (I have true bypass), and as far as coloring the sound, it definitely brightens the tone a bit, which I like -- I tend to use it with my neck pickup because of that but that's fine.

I have lots of other pedals, mostly dirt, and have been gassing for some others and this pedal has really changed my thinking. I run my Tele into an Analogman mini-BiComp (Orange Squeezer and Saffron Squeeze clones) > MJM London Fuzz > MJM Foxey Fuzz > Zvex Octane 3 > Analogman 808/SD-1 > 3ms Phaseur > Boss DM3

I was gassing for a Mojo Vibe, but who needs it now? I've evicted my Boss CE-2 chorus from my board because the Phaseur can give me much more interesting chorus-like sounds that I actually like. I had a Boss PH-3 but that's not anything like this pedal. The PH-3 was artificial, mechanical, graceless whereas the Phaseur is natural, organic, and inherently musical.

I'm a dirt-fiend, but this has quickly become my favorite pedal. Partly becaiuse it plays so well with my dirt, making each sound better. Clean, it's also great. But I especially like running from the Orange Squeezer into it.

The sounds... with its array of sweeps and natural decay, it enhances single notes as well as chords and establishes a rhythm for your playing that subtley drives you forward, urging you to discover more, try new things, confident that you'll discover new shades and colors of sound.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems very solid. No problems.

Customer Support : 9
Very helpful both in purchasing it and answering questions once I got it. I want to build one myself now so I'll, no doubt, be interacting with the folks at 3ms more in the future.

Overall Rating : 10
I play roots-bluesy garage rock and it's great for that. It opens up a whole new window to look out at the world from that music. It's also really good for BRMC-type stuff which I'm getting into. Anything where you have some space in your playing to listen to what you play and take the music in new directions, this pedal will help you.

It's a joy to play.

With all of the 3MS stuff, it is custom made to be ultra-tweak-able (is taht a word...well it is now). So it may take a while to get a "normal" phasing sound out of it. You can't just put all nobs at 3 o'clock and get a traditional phase as you can do with other phasers. But if you want something that CAN sound like no other pedal, get a 3MS! Getting normal phasing is very possible, like another reviewer stated, just interact between the height and depth nobs. My unit is customized with a stepped up photocell speed (capable of faster than normal photocell phasing) and the adapter mod, with a 2nd footswitch added to go between sine wave and square wave.

Give it some time, and you can find everything and more!

Sound Quality : 9
I try not to give 10s, but this is a really great phaser. I would ahve to say that the sound is very similar to the tones you can get out of a MuTron BiPhase, because of the square wave and other tonal controls that I customized this pedal to have.

I run this line of gear currently: alternatly tuned guitars - Arion stage tuner - ElectroHarmonix Frequency Analyzer (ri) - 3MS Phaseur Fleur - ElectroHarmonix Big Muff (ri) - Digitech PDS20/20 Delay pedal - Ampeg R12R Reverberocket 1x12 tube (50watt) combo. (looking to trade this amp for a reverb/tremolo all tube amp, like a Fender SF Deluxe Reverb, email me!)

This pedal gives some great Sonic Youth and Radiohead type sounds. Although it is not as chewy as a Small Stone with the color on, it have a very subtile enevlope quality on some settings without the volume drop. Speaking of volume, if you turn the phasing to zero, you can use the self oscillation control as a gain booster! Good for adding that little edge when needed!

Reliability : 10
dann built is, seems fine. Insides can look scary with all those wires and the "board" but I guess that really doesn't mattter since the sound is great! The boxes are cool too, don't imagine anything going wrong, but if it ever does, Dann said he woudl fix it right up....

Customer Support : 10
Dann is great.

Great phase shifter. I have owned Small Stone, MXR Phase 90, Bad Stone, Univox, Ibanez, and tried out countless others. This pedal is fantastic. I hope I never have to sell it, but tough times are coming up soon.

fine...this is an addition to my other review.

Sound Quality : 10
I have found a NEW effect with this thing that has very little to do with phasing , persay, but I LOVE it so much I will buy another pedal just to do this. itl be on almost ALL THE TIME...the effect goes away when you back off the volume. basically the effect is to set the phase speed to OFF, or as low as it will go. depth goes to 10:00, height is off, blend at 1/2. where the action is is the RING control. try setting it to between 7 and full. my guitar has a lot of pickup switching options, including series connection ala Brian MAY of QUEEN. I put my tube preamp ahead of this pedal, then the output into a stereo delay. the sound is like Adrian Belew in KING CRIMSON's DICIPLINE album,..the wild feedback stuff in elephant talk and dicipline. and MORE. I am going to install this pedals electronics into a Dearmond volume pedal with the pedal adjusting the RING control. its friggn AMAZING. reminds me also of the more out there REEVEs GABRELES.

Reliability : 6
pretty flimsy build quality.. it needs beefing up. as it is PRICELESS though, what can I say.

absolutely great. Dan GREEN is the best of any Pedal makers for MODS..

as I said, this thing will be ON most of the time...in this new setting. all the variation in tones are on the guitar. very very wide range.

the controls are very interactive. mostly interaction between the height and depth is where the action is.

Sound Quality : 10
for a phaser pedal, this thing is extremely quiet..much more than ANY other analog phaser, especially considering the amount of tonal posibilities. hard to do with analog electronics.

Reliability : 7
dont know, just got it. the build quality is a BIT dodgy...the circuit board is loose inside. but, same as a lot of BOSS pedals, held in place by FOAM, etc. I will probably beef mine up a bit in that regard. the hardware is all good quality..expensive floating ground jacks, etc...( probably helps contribute to the great noise specs )

Customer Support : 10
top notch. couldnt ask for better. you deal with 3ms direct..mods are no problem, these guys have interesting and open minds

I make recording studio equipment for a living, and have the largest recording guitar and hi fi schematics library on the internet. ( http://nanaimo.ark.com/~pat/index.htm ) I have run music stores, taught guitar for years, etc.. played for 20+ years..had a LOT OF PEDALS AND EFFECTS. this thing is great. wouldnt change a thing about the sound.. the ONLY beef is that the pc board should be firmer mounted.. otherwise, THIS IS WHAT PEDALS ARE ALL ABOUT. I intend to buy more of this brand.

this unit takes some playing with to get it right. it has no manual so you are on your own. this said, you WILL NOT be dissapointed.

Sound Quality : 10
i use my phasuer with my ESP Horizon, fender jazzmaster, and with an epiphone electric/acoustic run through a series of effects. alone, the unit is a quiet, good phaser. when coupled with distortion (i use 2 EH big muffs and a boss mt-2) you get amazing results. sonically this pedal has more to offer than any phaser i have ever used. i had mine modified by dan to include a true bypass, an extra lfo, and wave shaping controls (he does these mods for fee or trade) and i could not be happier. the pedal, with a little tweaking, imparts analog synth like timbre changes and sweeps. amazing. if you are looking to do something different, if you want to orbit, this is the phase you are looking for.

Reliability : 9
seems very dependable, haven't gigged with it yet, but appears very solid. dan builds his effects out of electrical junction boxes- sturdy and inexpensive. have to use it without a backup as i can't just go and buy a backup.

Customer Support : 10
Dan Green, who makes the pedals, is the best. very open to ideas and input, and will build the pedal to your specifications. very friendly, very communicative. if you have an idea, or dream in sound, dan will help translate it into an effect...

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing for about 3 years and am as interested in the possibilities of shaping sound (effects) as i am in playing (guitar). i am in a band whose sound varies, from heavy to spaced out to ambient (2 guitars, drums, bass, dj). i have played with alot of phasers and would put this up against any (boss, ada, EH, lovetones- this is the best, oddest, most transcending of them all) this pedal fits perfectly in my setup, allows me to twirl and twist sound in a way that crashes into my amp and then withdraws, only to swirl in another direction. i would buy this pedal again in a heartbeat.
