5 control knobs. I expected a real learning curve with the ADA Flanger after some of the reviews but since I had been looking forward to it for so long maybe that helped..
I try to do a fair amount of research on any gear I buy((I always start on H/C),see if I can find pros and cons, etc.
But right out of the box I plugged it in and heard plenty I liked.
Oh and I did find the manual:)
http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/gearpages/pedals/ADA-Flanger-pedal.htm
That will get you thru the basics...

I'm using a 1982 Les Paul custom with Burst bucker puck ups, custom Strat, 2001 Gibson Explorer,1983 Gibson Invader (among others)thru a Planet waves tuner Foxx Roxx Octron,Fulltone Clyde Deluxe,Fulltone Full drive II,( Direct in the amp) Fulltone Choral Flange(in the flange setting)Fulltone Deja Vibe,MXR Phase 100, Ibanez L.A. Metal (hey they're not bad as its made out!)Pearl Chorus and a Pearl Delay(old school!),, MXR Kerry King 10 band E.Q., Pearl Noise Suppressor B.B.E. Stinger(effects loop) into a Marshall blues breaker.(2/ 12's Celestion Greenbacks
I took the Choral Flange out and put in the ADA flanger...what a difference right away, not that the Fulltone Choral/Flange is bad but I really didn't seem to use it that much since I already had a nice chorus pedal(Pearl)
I was immediately able to get that 70's Pat Travers tone with no problem YES!!Very distinctive on any setting ,it can easily be made transparent to pure noise!!!
Not to mention that Paul Gilbert style neat "jet taking off" sounds, etc. I read somewhere his was modded but that one doesn't need to be...
I'm a happy camper with this in my arsenal!

Reliability : 8
Well it 30 years old or so it lasted this long so it looks like it will hang in there.I have a back up(choral Flange)
Plus I have an old timer buddy who can work on most anything it things really go bad. Lords knows I will never be able to afford another one!

I've been playing for 30 years .playing rock, blues and metal.
I'm a gear junkie of the typical sort,20 odd guitar 4 different amps, you know the deal.
It won't get stolen since I'll have to hire a security guard when I take this out!!!
This was one of those pedals I always heard about so I finally decided to start looking for it,they're out there but go for a premium price. Asked so older friends ,one told me he bought his brand new in 1978 and they where $250.00! That is a lot to pay 30 years ago!
Life's too short is my attitude, so what the hell I made the plunge on the most I have ever paid for a pedal, I'm enjoying it. The ADA Flanger fills in a nice void,it will certainly get more use than the previous flanger.
Get one you'll love it!!!

Easy to use. Excellent tweakability. You can go anywhere from subtle to way over the top with the enhance knob.

Sound Quality : 8
Best sounding flanger unit ever made, hands down. Nothing compares to it. It is extremely versatile and usable in any situation, as it can run anywhere from extremely gentle to way over the top. It also has an input for foot control, as it is voltage controlled.

It is a tad noisy, but most flanger units are due to the nature of the effect. Chorus and phaser units have the same issues due to the sweep of the filter and amplification in the region of the Q.

Reliability : 10
**** yeah it's reliable. Mine is god knows how old, but still in mint condition. Never has given me any trouble. Come to think of it, this is the ONLY pedal I've owned that hasn't given me some sort of mechanical issue. And considering the age, that just goes to show the care that went into making these.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No longer exists, but unnecessary.

Overall Rating : 9
I play a range of styles, mostly indie rock. It works great for what I do, but I could see it being very useful in a number of situations and genres. I've been playing for over 15 years, and own a considerable amount of gear. I'm a bit of a pedal geek, and have hand built many of my own. This blows anything made by any other company out of the water. I wish that ADA had continued, as they are top of the line.

This unit takes a little getting used to, but not too hard to figure out with a little experimentation.Mine has the hard wired AC cord, Even/Odd harmonics switch, threshhold control.....I do not have the manual.

Sound Quality : 9
This is a very versitile flanger, and it does more than just flange. The chorus, and leslie effects are also very good! It's possible to get jet airplane sounds, and some really wierd noises out of this too.The sounds are full and lush, the tone is great! It adds no noise to my signal path.I play a Parker NItefly guitar, thru either my Line6 Flextone3 amp, or my Carvin X100B amp. There are no weak sounds on this unit, it is a top of the line flanger for a floor type pedal.Probably the best ever made!It will put other pedal type flangers to shame.

Reliability : 10
I have owned my ADA flanger for 25 years, not one problem! Nice heavy duty metal construction, well built!

I also Own asst. FX devices, drum machines...I don't know if i would be able to find another one if it were lost, or stolen, but i would sure miss it!I love the easy controls, the AC power cord, the great sounds and special FX it can get.Theres nothing i don't like about this flanger. It has helped me make ALOT of music over the 25 years Iv'e owned it!I bought it because it was the best sounding flanger at the time, and it's still one of the all time best for what it is!

Not the easiest pedal to use. It has quite a few knobs and even more available sounds. However, with a little practice, one could find just about every modulation sound possible for this thing...but it definately takes some time and the controls are pretty interactive in very subtle ways so you may find it difficult using it onstage if you're one of those types who wants the same precise sound you were getting in rehersal or in the studio, however if you like throwing a little suprise into your performance with a pedal with somewhat unpredictable sounds, this pedal may be for you.

Sound Quality : 8
I dunno what it is but I always seem to get a better or maybe more useable sound with this pedal in the studio than live. Maybe because it requires some serious tweaking to get certain sounds (which I think is actually a positive opposed to a negative). I should state that I'm not a big fan of the flange effect and even less of a fan of the chorus effect (which is rather similar to flanging). However, as far as flangers go, this is the best there is (although I have not been able to try the lovetone flange with no name or the foxrox flanger-both of which I've heard very good things about). What's great about the ADA flanger is that it has this knob called enhance which will really bring out some freaky-ass sounds...I love cranking this knob and feeding my moogerfooger ring modulator into the flanger-it sounds very freaky and synth like. This pedal is also capable of some very tasty, understated, sounds like a nice rotary speaker sound, and soome very funky John Frusciante-style chorus sounds (which sound better than ANY chorus I've ever used fo sho!) and some cool expressive sounds using the threshold knob, which allows one to activate the effect with pick attack. However, when using this pedal live, I've had some problems which in the studio can sometimes be an advantage: honestly this pedal is almost too thick sounding! It's so warm and jucy that it can really muddy things up and smear any sort of definition. Also the footswitch has, at times, gone out on me and completely cut out any sound (which I have aleviated by toggeling the switch in and out several times and everything goes back to normal). It's worth noting that I have a reissue ADA, however I got it after using my roommate's original ADA for quite some time so I am familiar with both units. I'd say the original's enhance knob can go a little further into insane territory but other than that the two pedals are very close in sound, you couldn't go wrong with either of them.

Reliability : 7
Well, I don't really use this live because of the dodgey footswitch and the fact that it is just so thick sounding. Plus, I own a moogerfooger phaser which, on it's 12 stage setting, will get some very similar (although definately not identical) sounds to the ADA, and I just can't warrant using both onstage. However, I have no intention of selling this pedal and I think it is invalueable in the studio. Plus, even the reissues have been discontinued several years ago and this is somewhat of a rare pedal-and it's certianly a classic.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no idea. do they even have a website?

Overall Rating : 7
Great great great flanger and also the BEST chorus I've ever used. There are some other options such as the lovetone and the foxrox flangers but I think this one certainly does a lot and is much better than any other flanger I've ever tried...and not too expensive like a lot of boutique units (although to the best of my knowledge ADA is somewhat of a boutique company). However, it's not the most reliable or useful pedal out there and unless you use flanger all the time, I'd doubt you'd really use this thing all that much on say a live stage. However, in the studio it can be an invaluable item. I gotta say anyone looking for a chorus pedal should mos def check one of these out. The only thing better is the original boss (the big one) chorus but this pedal is WAAAYYYY more versatile.

Takes a bit of learning, but has alot of tones in it. Lush and shimmery tones for chorus, tremolo, and leslie. The flange/phase tones are excellent. Very deep. The manual from the internet, enlightens a little, but ultimately, you have to experiment. Mine is an original with hard wired AC cord and original expression pedal w/ stereo cord.

Sound Quality : 10
This is warm and full. I use the leslie/chorus sounds most often. But on occasion, use the flange. Think Van Halen and Lenny Kravitz for the extreme flanging... No white noise at all. I run my LP Custom, USA strat w/fat 50's, and RG520QS, into a modded 95Q, TS9/808,octave multiplexer, input of Mesa Boogie Mark III simulclass head, A/DA and Deluxe Memory Man in loop, and out to 2 hardwood thiele/EV cabs.
All sounds/tones from this pedal are extremely thick and lush.
This is the last word in flagers for sure....

Reliability : 10
This is extremely well built, and have no problem using it without backup.

I play everything from metal to classical, but in our band, we stick to blues/rock/jam etc. Been playing since 1980. If it were stolen, I'd start looking immediately for another as they're hard to find.
Certainly worth the $$ though... It has become an intregal part of my tone, and is on almost always to one degree or the other...

I picked mine up use at a local music shop that is more like a museum than a music shop. This is an original mid 70's, pretty beat up, but is quiet and works extremely well.Hard wired AC cord needs to be updated as it's stiff and will snap easily. With no manual, I got the best leslie, chorus, flange tones out of it.. Had no opinions on it before I tried it out, now I find it's just what I've been looking for all along!!! Very happy with it...I've since downloaded the manual, and have an understanding of the controls, but it's still a tweakers delight.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a USA strat, a Les Paul Custom, and an RG520QS through a Mesa Boogie Mark III with 2 thiele/EV loaded cabs. I find the signal is slightly lower vol with the A/DA engaged, but barely noticeable. I run it in the effects loop before my Deluxe Memory Man. The A/DA is absolutely quiet, even in high gain. The sound is LUSH... I'm really not an effects kind of player, but use this for chorus, leslie, and long sweeping flange. Used in nominal settings, it's very useful, but in extreme settings, it becomes the "featured" tone. The tone of this pedal is awesome and full, and doesn't sound processed. It envelops you guitar rather than just sit on top of it..

Reliability : No Opinion
This is a vintage unit, but I've had no problems with it. No noise, no "POP", nothing. It works extremely well. I will rely on this effect heavily..No guarantees though....Built like a tank... I can't give it a rating though, who knows what may happen..

I live in the vicinity of analogman.com
He repairs vintage pedals, and makes his own awesome effects as well. If it needs repair, he'll be the one to do it. I'm ging to have him go through it, and replace the cord, add a LED for on/off, and have him hook me up with the remote controller. A/DA is out of business.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues/rock/jam/jazzy stuff, but also metal/hard rock/ska/punk. Playing since 1980.This effect can be utilized in any of these, and will replace a chorus/vibrato/tremolo/flange pedals. Subtle to extreme settings are rewarding.Only other effects I use are a Deluxe Memory Man, and the A/DA flange in the E-loop, TS9/808 analogman.com
and crybaby in front of the amp..The only things I wish it had are a LED and a "mix" knob. But this is THE flanger to have, bar none. I planned on getting a Small Clone or Polychorus, and then an Electric Mistress or Flanger Hoax. All of them excellent, but purchased the A/DA instead, and it blows each or them out of the water.
If this were lost or stolen, I would look for another, and if I found one, I'm sure it won't be for the same price I got this one, but that's OK, it's worth a hell of alot more to me than that!!
I would certainly suggest this pedal to anyone. Much better tone than a "stomp box" flange, plus it does alot more.

The unit has 5 knobs abd odd/even switch so turning them in different patterns allows some intersesting sounds. Unless you tweek those knobs fully right or left the sounds patterns are subtle. I have the original manuel which shows how you can simulate rotating leslie speakers, lush chorus and flanging. Since some settings are so subtle you at times might not know it's on in your chain of effects. So I proffessionaly got installed a LED light above the foot switch.

Sound Quality : 8
To really harness the flanging sounds its best to use the pedal with heavy distortion/overdrive and at the end of your pedal chain but before the delay. I use a 1965 marshall bluesbreaker reissue and fender
bass man reissue.

Reliability : 10
The unit is made up of cast steel and is heavy. You could do some serious damage if it made contact with someones head. I have used it at several shows and thats why the LED light was installed. i purchased the reissue in 95 in vancouver without even playing it , only because it looked cool and vintage reissue pedals were very rare to find and buy. It cost around $170 us bit those years were foggy. I have the MXR and Boss flanger pedal which each have different characteristics and wave patterns the ADA is the most subtle in sound and the boss is the more extreme of the three.

Mine is an old original one with the wall wart-type power adapter.I got it cheep compared to what they usually go for these days...it was missing knobs and the control plate.Good news tough it works great.% knobs a switch and control jack...others have said enough. You can do more with the features on this unit than other flangers!Easy enough to play around with and find glorious sounds!

Sound Quality : 10
Play a 69 strat through a sound city 50+...Ts808 , dod 585 analog delay, washburn ax-9 analog delay. The sound is the best period...better than MXR ,Ross and effectron for flanging...it is the holly Grail of flangers! Chorus is lush and ranks with the best ! Not much noise...better than expected! Switching is good too...no pop! This is a must have for anyone who digs flanging and chorus!!!
