it is pretty rough to get a hold on, but after a few hours any one can get some cool sounds out of it...

Sound Quality : No Opinion

Reliability : 8
mine was used by a proffessional musican and countless others (he sold it to me @ the pawn shop I work @, he had gotten it at another pawn shop) and it has been beat to heck and back, it still works wonderfully... plus, it's like 25 years old...

there out of business

I play indie/neo grunge... it is really good! I would buy an infanite ammount for what I paid for it... yes, I did actually pay 15 bucks... (I really like working in a pawn shop) I wish that it had a light on it...

this is b/c you can get some really subtle sounds and forget that it is on... great for smashing pumkins stuff, you can also get a toy laser sound out of it...

Got this unit used. Not sure if it is an original or a re-issue, but it appears pretty old and beat up. This flanger sounds awesome, I have no problems with excessive noise. The foot switch and knobs also function quietly. It did not have an owners manual, but I managed to download one from the web. The manual contains some basic information, but you don't really need it. This unit is easy to figure out. I also heard that the optional footpedal is a nice added feature, but I never tried using it yet. I need to locate a pedal that is compatible or have on made. The owners manual explains needed specs on a foot pedal.

Sound Quality : 9
My setup includes a vintage Crybaby wah pedal, Fulltone FD-2, Danelectro phase shifter, Boss DD-5 and a Fulltone Fat Boost. My guitar is a 78 Ibanez Ice Man w/Carvin M22 Humbuckers. Amp is a Marshall G15MS (until I can get a better amp). This flanger is capable of a vast array of sounds and also sounds like a chorus. I like the sound of this so much that it is now a part of my sound.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had this very long, but it seems to be built like a M1-A1 Tank. The fact that this unit shows signs of heavy use and abuse is proof of that.

Never dealt with them. But I heard that they are out of business.

Overall Rating : 9
I play heavy rock and oldies (60's & 70's), and I think this is a perfect flanger. If it was lost or stolen, I would look for another. I also have a MXR flanger and a vintage electric mistress. This thing blows them away. I'll probably sell the MXR and keep the electric mistress as a back-up. It's too bad that the maker of such a fine product is no longer around.

this has to be one of the best flangers on the planet. I use to have the mxr flanger and loved it . I heard about how good this ada one is so I went to check it out. It blows the mxr away, huge flanger tones and easy to use controls that give it so much cream. Even a foot control to control the rate of the flanger is avilable. Hands down my freinds 10 for 10!

Sound Quality : 10
I run a marshall dsl 2000 and a custom schecter hellcat. I have a lot of differnt pedals but none as good as this one. the ada is a little noisy but a small price to pay for a flanger that sounds like a 747 taking off in your room. Even with lots of gain you can still hear it clear as a bell. Best flanger there is, for any kind of music.

Reliability : 10
built like a tank and has not gone out on me yet. Its about 10 years old I guess

Customer Support : 5
ada went out of bussnies long time ago. Still works great.

Overall Rating : 10
I play lots of dream rock, like my bloody valentine. lots of delays and guitars. I have been playing for about 5 years. Iam still trying to get a ada phaser. That also is a kick ass pedal.

This is for all the ADA Flanger owners out there who may not be familiar with the 5Volt controller function. Please pardon this commentary if this has already been stated. The ADA Flanger is a voltage controlled Flanger which simply means that the harder your picking attack (or the greater the input signal), the more the unit will Flange. If you own a pedal like the DOD FX17 pedal (A pedal which allows you to select either Volume, Wah, or 5 Volt controller), when using the 5 Volt controller function coupled with the Flanger unit the musician now controls the way the Flanger tracks with (his/her) foot rather than with pick attack. I have had my ADA Flanger since I bought it new back in the 70's but have mislaid the manual. If anyone out there knows where I can get one please e-mail me.

Well seeing how this Effect has 5 knobs and a swich(along with a foot swich) theres more to it then say a MXR flanger.
But one of the main reasons i got this pedal is becuz it is so versatile.
You have prety great control over the whole effect,
When i got it, it was my 1st flanger so i was prety green.
It took me a few hours to get an idea of what the knobs did. (did not have manual) but after that there is mine sounds that can come out of this small box.
I gave this a 7 becuz its not "real" easy to use. But dont let that scare you away.

Sound Quality : 9
Well i have a tele and a hamer (LP) and a mesa boogie amp (just to keep it basic) .
And the tone is good. I have heard ppl say its abit dry or tiny at least compared to the MRX and maxon (and such) but i can't complane.
It is not noisey to speek of. And i dont think it colors my sound (though im not the best at telling)
It has a good tone very analog. And it can go from a very fast chorus. To a very slow/stoped flanger. and then if you turn the rate and depth up you won't even beable to know what key your playing in.
I have yet to even look at a chorus pedal becuz this pedal can do a darn good job at chorus as well as alot of other stuff i have not heard come out of a flanger.

Another thing i love is the control pedal input.
I wanted a flanger i could control like a "wah" and you can with this one. i got a ernie ball and i had to mod it to work as a control pedal but the end resault is prety wicked. i can't say i use it alot but its nice to know its there. (if you want a samply icq me 15276671)

Reliability : 7
Well.
This is very old pedal i forget how old but its older then im.
Its very well made, its been abit beat up on the out side but it works prety well sound wise.
The only trouble i have had is some times it will not fully turn off. And i will have to tap it to get it off and such. i think its somthing to do with the old swich in it. I dont gig so it is not a huge deal but if i started giging i would have to have it looked at.

They are no longer in busyness. Though i would like to talk to them

Overall Rating : 10
I play alot of differnet sort of music along with just likeing to make noise (from time to time) and this works great.
With out it being in a effects loop its abit week on the over drive channel. I love how versatile it is. I love the analog tone.
I have not found anything as versatile as this pedal. Other then the love tones pedal which is infact alot more verstaile then this pedal but (i feel) really for the money this pedal can beat it.
So in my 8 years of guitar playing (not to speak of other insterments) i have yet to find anything that can beat it for the buck.

When I first found this pedal, I didn't know what to do with it. I had never really used a flanger before, and I left it alone for about a year (once in a while I would mess with it.). Recently, though, I have found that it is a God-send. It has a LUSH chorus sound (I can get a really nice Late 70's Alex Lifeson of Rush, sound). The more you play with it, the more surprises it yields. I do wish, though, that it had a battery as well as a power chord, or at least a longer one. Plus, I wish I had a manual for it, I found it at a yard sale. Other than that, I like it.

Sound Quality : 9
Mainly, I use this as a chorus for the lush sound I get. It is old (not a reissue) so sometimes I'll get a pop or it will cut out for a moment when switching it on. I use it with my fender strat through an Orange OR120 and a Peavey Classic 50 212. I have found more that I like about this pedal each time I use it. I used to be skeptical about effects like this. I thought they sounded too processed, but I have grown and changed and have come to accept my 80's prog rock love. I can get some of the most disturbing sounds out of the darn thing. On the flip side, I can get very beautiful sweeps from it as well.

So far, so good. What backup?

I play alot of prog rock and nerd metal. I've been playing for about 12 years and have loved every minute of it. I use an Ibanez tube screamer, this flanger, an ibanez phaser, and various other effects that friends will consent to let me use. If I ever lost this pedal, I would cry. I don't think I could find another like it as cheaply as I did. As I said, I found it at a yard sale for 15 dollars. The guy who sold it said he's used it for gigs, but it started to crap out on him so he discontinued using it. I found out what the problem was: He had lost the little nut that holds the footswitch button in place and so kept pushing the thing down into the pedal. I found another nut and it works fine now.

Easy to get some good sounds right away. It would be good if it had a battery compartment as well as that cord. Also, the cord is quite short, you'd probably have to buy an extension for it.

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is : Epiphone SG -> Crybaby 535Q -> Boss MT-2 -> Flanger -> Boss GE-7 -> Laney HCM120R. If the pedal is set at quite a heavy setting, you can definitly hear it flanging in the background.

Great sounds. I could get some good tones as soon as I plugged it in, and after a bit of tweaking had the perfect sound for me. Deep, lush, fat are all words that spring to mind. I love how you can use the manual and range knobs to specify exactly where you want to flange. Very specific. Nailed that "Lightning Crashes" sound. You can also get some pretty screwed up tones...you can get a nice reverb that sounds like you're in a submarine. The even/odd switch is quite cool...even gives the flange a more vocal quality. However, it's sweep can get a bit thin at one end. I prefer the odd.

I've compared this to the Boss BF-2. The Boss has a larger range, and can do those jetplane sounds better than the A/DA. But for any other sound, the A/DA was way above the Boss.

One thing that does annoy me about the pedal is the volume boost. You can control this with the "enhance" knob, but putting it down reduces the flanger:guitar ratio. Perhaps a seperate volume knob would have been a good idea?

In regards to a clicking that someone mentioned below, I have noticed this, but only very occassionly. I simply unplugged the unit and plugged it back in again and the problem was solved.

Reliability : 7
Gigged with it once. It was fine. One time (and only one time) I was playing, I stomped on the flanger, and the volume reduced to almost inaudible. Stomped on it again and it was fine. I don't know what happened there, it has happened again so I hope it was a one off thing.

This is the reissue. Anyone who's into bands like The Cure, Live, Pink Floyd etc. should love this pedal. I believe that it's not being made anymore, but you can still find them around. Beat the Boss hands down. Wish it had a volume knob, or it just didn't have that volume boost. Can someone tell me how to use the foot control? What type of controller do you need??

I think one of the coolest features of this pedal is the fact that it's almost unpredictable. You could have a cool swirl-type effect going on,and with the slightest twirl of one of the knobs the unit "takes off" into another sonic direction. The manual does help, however my take on effects is the manipulation of sound, and not where the knobs should theoretically be set

Sound Quality : 8
I use strats and les pauls into marshalls or fenders and depending on the amount of overdrive the unit remains quiet.I have 2 units- one is an original that I bought in a store in NYC that the owner said belonged to Pat Thrall of the Pat Travers Band.In a freak incident I met Pat Thrall in a club and he said he never sold his!(nothing like a good salesman's BS).I also have a reissue.I grew up in the 70's and loved bands like Rick Derringer, Pat Travers, etc; and this unit is IT!Just listen to Derringer's"Comes a Woman" and you become Rick Derringer!

Reliability : No Opinion
The only reason I have 2 units is because someone modified my original.I don't trust it.

I called the company and they said they'd repair whatever mods that were done and return it to spec for $50.How can you beat that? The woman on the phone was extremely helpful.

I bought this unit used for $35 in the early 80's. The new one cost $150?(don't remember)If anyone knows if I can use a regular volume type pedal w\this unit please contact me at werbo@worldnet.att.net

I bought this unit used, so there was no manual. Still, getting good tones and sounds was a snap. Tweek and play !!

Sound Quality : 10
I've run both single coil Strats and Humbuckin' Pauls into a Rockman X-100,into the flange, into a Blackface Princeton Reverb and it screams. Unit itself is very quiet and produces a fat, lush sound. Here's your Pat Travers tone right here! Most versatile flange I've ever played.

Wish I'd had this pedal years ago. Even setting the sweeps low gives you a nice addition to your tone. If you can't get a cool sounding, useful tone with this rig...why are you playing guitar?

Very easy to get a good sound, especially if you use the remote pedal (I use a Casio keyboard volume pedal. The remote pedal lets you manually vary the sweep for some interesting comb filter effects. The manual is just enough to get you started.

Sound Quality : 9
Yamaha RGX-612S -> DOD FX59 Thrashmaster -> Maestro Boomerang Volume/Wah -> ADA Flanger -> Fender DGL-1 Digital Delay -> DOD Stereo Chorus 565 -> '76 Traynor YGL-3. It can be noisy and obnoxious if the controls are set to an extreme, Back off a little and it's fine. Using the remote pedal, you can set the comb filter just right to emulate a sound fairly close to that fat sound that Brian May has on his homebuilt guitar.

Reliability : 10
Very dependable, I'm on a very low budget, What's a backup?

This is the second ADA flanger I've owned (I lost the first one in a divorce, and lucked out finding the second) both were original issues that I found in pawn shops. I wore out the bypass switch once on one of them but replaced it myself.

Overall Rating : 10
I try not to limit myself to any one style of playing, When asked if I play guitar, I say I play with it, Although I think i was three when I first picked up a guitar. I also have a 25 yearold Zenon acoustic, two Gorilla GG-25 practice amps, a harmonica, and an antique tremoloa (look that one up for yourself). If I lost my DAD flanger, I would definitly look for another one (original issue if possible)
