this unit has great tone...period....the guys at ada depot really know what they're doing and this mod shows it.....its labeled as a mesa mod "scooped mid sound" but i like my high gain tones with plenty of mids and this unit does that as welll.....i play a usa jackson soloist with emgs in neck and bridge position straight into the ada the right through the front door of my lee jackson xls 1000 and the result is beautiful....as for noise mine has the noise mod aswell so it is extremely quiet

This unit totally rip's!! Extremely easy to tweak & set up, but like anything it demands that you take the time to tweak it. Editing patches is extremely simple and quick. This is a feature thats great about the MP-1 units. The manual is clear, nothing crazy... pretty much straight forward. This unit was modified by MJMP and got pretty much everything done to it.

The 3.666 is a focused beast. The gain is awesome and more than anyone could need... I get some great sounds out of this unit, both clean and high gained tones. The chorus on the unit is also a cool feature to have. Whats great about it is that in SS (solid state) mode the "OD2" setting becomes a compressor. This feature is found on ALL ADA MP-1's and its great! Like anything thats "High Gain" noise will be found... but nothing a HUSH can't fix! I am using a Mesa Boogie 50/50 power amp with this... it kicks ass!

I've been playing for about 15 years and I went through A LOT of gear... traded, sold, purchased over and over and the MP-1 is the one unit that has made me sell my other preamps and just keep this one. Thats say' a lot! I play mostly Metal & Classic Rock and the 3.666 fits both styles nicely. Its got the best of both world, crazy gain for any "modern" sound needed and once the gain is pulled back you've got a nice, heavy rock tone. Awesome unit! Nothing much to hate about on this unit. Its easy to use, sounds great, its got tube power, the display is nice and clean. This unit as been compared to the a Mesa Triaxis & PSA-1 and honestly, the ADA people had a jem with this thing! Way a head of its time... I would still pick an ADA over a Triaxis any time and at 1/3 of the price its a steal!! I would have liked this unit to a title edit feature and maybe a front loaded power switch. But thats something I can live without. So no worrys. If it got stolen I would seriously be pist... but I have 3 back ups so I'd be good for the moment ;)

sounds killer
As mentioned before "Evil inside" :-)
You have to adjust exactly the amount of bass warp and mid scoops - then you got a real evil sound with tons of gain.
Too much gain, but you can also adjust the amount of gain with a trimpot.

Easy? Heh, I haven't ever tried out a preamp unit yet that is as easy as the MP-1 to operate! So this is a modded MP-1. Well, the manual still applies, so it's still a piece of cake. Mine is the plain-jane version 1.38 as I really have no real use for the 2.01 version anyway. Has this unit been upgraded? (snicker) duh...yeah!

The stock MP-1 is pretty sweet by itself, but this thing flat-out ROARS with the MOD3.666 ! There is waaayy more gain than you'll probably ever need, but I like that since I'd rather not have to max out every parameter to get my sound....plenty of reserve here folks. Of course, with the more gain you use, the more noise you'll have. There's no way around that with an all-analog signal path. Invest in a good gate and learn how to use one correctly! There is a real reason for the name "MOD3.666" If you should sprinkle some Holy Water on the top of this MP-1, I bet it would projectile-vomit green pea soup back at you! Evil Inside.
Also, this mod is still pretty versatile. Just because it is considered a "Rectifier" type mod, doesn't mean that it only sounds good with a severely scooped EQ setting. I still can get am ass-kicking Marshall-like sound out if as well as the Fenders and Roland Jazz Chorus amps, and most everything else I want! I don't really scoop too much mids anymore like I used to with the stocker....about -4 on the Mids is pretty satisfying in the scoopage department. And I actually use a lot more different presets now with this mod than I ever did before! Tube Clean can get you all kinds of nasty overdrive sounds! Think AC/DC, Accept, Motorhead, etc. In fact, when you push the OD levels up to 10 on Tube Clean, it sounds just as heavy as the stock MP-1 did on Tube Distortion! HOLY CRAP! Now you can think of the Tube Distortion voicing on the MOD3.666 MP-1 as the nitro-burning, supercharged, fuel-injected, 5000+ horsepower Hemi don't-lift-off-the-throttle-until-after-you-pull-the-drag-chute version of the the MP-1.
I use this with a BBE 482, Rocktron Hush Super C, Rocktron Intellifex, Rocktron Velocity 300 power amp into 2 Marshall 1960 4x12 cabs. I now also use an ADA Microcab exclusively for recording. Mics? Mics? We don' need no steenkin' mics!

Well, I have had a few MP-1s of my own, fixed/repaired/modified lots of other people's MP-1s too, and I haven't run into one that could not be saved. They really never have let me down at all. Having a backup is nice, but after carrying around a 6 space rack with 2 preamps, I just decided to go with just one in my rack. The 2nd one went "under the knife" and was reborn as the MPH-1. What's an MPH-1? Go find out at www.adadepot.com !

I honestly believe I'll keep this until I die. All the available mods for the MP-1 are pretty damn good sounds, and I may use more of them, but the MOD3.666 is a keeper. I have a few other mods in this as well, but they are for reliability and conveniences' sake, not for changing the tone signature.

It's just as easy to program as a stock MP-1. The tricky part is adjust the Mid-Scoop Pot and the Bass-Warp pot. The key to this is to adjust it while playing at a reasonable volume. You aren't gonna dial this in properly using headphones.
It might also be a good idea to dial it in while playing in a band setting. If you don't set these pots correctly, you will have a hard time cutting through the mix. But once you get it right, the results are very satisfying.
Editing the patches is the same as editing them on a standard MP-1. Pretty simple; there's only 11 parameters to deal with.
The standard MP-1 manual still applies to MOD3.666.
This particular MOD3.666 has a version 2.01 EPROM in it. The EPROM only effects MIDI capabilities (i.e. SYSEX dumps, etc), not tone.
The Manuals and the directions for performing this mod are located at http://www.adadepot.com.

MOD3.666 is billed as the Rectifier mod for the ADA MP-1. And it does just that; The "Mesa Sound" is usually characterized as a "Scooped" tone; lots of Lows and Highs, with the Mids pulled out. When adjusted properly (see above), it is a crushing tone that really thickens up the guitar's voicings.
I found that in doing MOD3.666, alot of the cheaper components that were originally used in ADA's production are replaced by higher quality parts. This has significantly reduced the amount of noise present in the MP-1. Depending on the OD levels you play at, it may not be necessary to even use an external Noise Reduction or Hush unit now.
I was using MOD3.666 in a rack setup with a G Major FX unit, a Mesa 50/50 Poweramp, and a Marshall 1960a 4x12 cabinet. This unit is the reason I switched back to an MP-1 from years of using an MP-2.
It's not perfect but it sure is close to it, if you are into the higher gain settings.

I'm a bit of a techie, so as long as nothing major goes wrong, I would have no problem depending on this unit. But ADA is gone, and the MP-1's are older pieces, so having a backup is always a good idea.
I have yet to have any issues with any of my ADA gear (MP-1's, MP-2's, Microcabs, etc). I have found all of thier equipment to be very dependable.

I play primarily heavy metal and punk-type music, with alot of riffing and palm-muting, but we also have some very intricate and clean parts as well. I have found that, once properly adjusted, a MOD3.666 MP-1 is one of the most brutal sounding rackmounts preamps around. The distortions can go from a slightly dirty, warm OD to a thick wall of (very usable) gain. Unlike some units that become uncontrollable above a certain point, MOD3.666 delivers workable tube distortions in all ranges.
I've always had a problem trying to get even a good clean sound from the Tube Clean channel (Even with a Stock MP-1), and it's still about the same. I prefer to use the Tube Clean to create some warm OD's (Like a nice Fender Twin that has been turned up; think along the lines of some of Neil Young's tones) instead of super clean tones.
This mod does not affect the Solid State voicing. That remains a crystal clean as before.
If you are into the Mesa Rectifier sound, but don't have the mountains of money to get one, then this is the way to go. MP-1's go for about $150 on Ebay, and you can get one of the techs at ADA Depot to do this mod for you for another $75-$100. Or you could do it yourself, if you are relatively saavy. That's less than $300 for a very versatile preamp that will make all of your neighbors hate you. What more could you want?
Oh, and BTW, this mod is referred to as MOD3.666; All caps, no spaces, and do you want to guess at what the number denotes? That's right; This mod is evil.
