all knobs, you turn - sound changes, these are CLASSIC sounds and easy to get, it also does some wild stuff if you want to expiriment but nothin to it just fiddle them knobbies till yer there. everything easy to understand and well laid out - it is really like having 4 pedals in a rack face each with its own section and on most units dif colored knobs very very cool!

Sound Quality : 10
quiet, lush, warm, amazing, this is a really unusual unit all analog and man does it sound it, freakin beautiful, the ADA flanger is famous and for good reason, its the best ever made, well its in here and these racks usually go for about the same as the vintage flanger pedal alone does, the chorus in this is as good as it gets and digital chorus just doesn't capture it, the doubler does the jaco thing and also adds very cool depth to lead gtr without sounding effected, the echo is as good as any other analog delay out there, ibz 202 etc and again the TFX4 with so much more sells for about the same as a single ad202. there's no wierd down side to the unit, it is well made and very quiet, i have 2 and they don't have any dropouts or anything, they are absolutely some of the best made pieces from the heyday of rack gear, ADA is first rate and this was one of thier top dog units, this was stoopid money when new and is about as good an example of this type of analog electronics as you will ever find

Reliability : 8
all ADA gear is well made and holds up, this unit is no exception, metal case, solid construction inside and out. ADA is of course out of business but ADAdepot exists online and there is a good support system out there for these and all ADA gear. the hi end niche market of analog gear will be around for a looong time and these are straightforward SS electronics that can be repaired if needed

Customer Support : 8
ADA is gone but support exists

Overall Rating : 10

How easy? It's all knobs and select buttons! Sounds great cool and smooth analog. I've had my fill of patches and parameters. Never had the manual. I love this unit. Wish I could find another.

Sound Quality : 9
Sound is awesome. Slight cut out when the effect is activated, but no biggie. I run this between a sansamp psa-1 and a Marshall 9000 power amp. It has vol. in and out so I can run the Marshall at about 1/2 to 3/4 vol. and use the ada to control my volume. Every effect on here is very nice.

Never had a problem and don't foresee one.

I play just about everything and the tfx-4 fits the bill. I'd like to find a footswitch.

This unit is simple to get great sounds from. All knobs, all analog, 123 done! Does one effect at a time. I never had a manual but is simple enough to get great SMOOTH effects from. Still would be nice to have a manual. I don't have a footswitch either, though I'd like to find one.

I run this in a rack setup with a Mesa Formula Pre and a Mesa 50\50 power amp. I play a Les Paul Standard and a USA Strat. The ADA is very quiet in operation, no hiss or humm. Being that the unit is older, there is a real small moment of sound cut off but really no big deal. For the great sounds that this unit gives, I'll take it! The TFX-4 has chorus, flange, doubler effect and echo. The chorus is awesome! I absolutely love the smoothness and roundness to it's sound. Very thick and heavy. The flanger is what I think ADA was known for best and I know why. You can dial in just about any flange type sounds needed and, like the chorus, THICK! The doubler is a neat effect. Think, the begining of "on the hunt" by Skynard. Almost sounds like a fast delay like the other guy said. The echo is a cool "retro" type effect, well being that this baby is older, the sound fits.

I've had this unit for quite some time and never had a problem. Some of the covers for the knobs have dissapered over the years. No fault to the unit for that though!

I play all types of rock music. I love this unit. I'm always looking for another to have for a backup. If you ever see one, pick it up. you won't be dissapointed! I keep my eyes open(e-bay) but rarely see one come up. One word for this unit, SMOOTH! Very round and organic sounding. The only thing I can fault on this unit, like I said before, is the very short cut out when engaging an effect, but it's easily overcome by the sound and tweakabilaty of this gem!

Great unit! Smooth analog sound, hard to find anymore. All knobs, no buttons(except for the effect on or off on the face). Has great classic ADA flange, wide luch chorus, nice doubler and echo. Piece of cake to operate and set up. The manual(also hard ro find) is great. Has setting suggestions and to the point instructions.

I have this running in a rack setup which consists of Marshall 9001 Pre, ADA TFX-4 in the Marshalls fx loop(stereo), BBE, Mesa 20/20, ADA microcabII to Marshall 4x12 cab. I am playing a Carvin DC127. The unit functions flawlesly and has a great signal. Nice smooth analog sound! The Chorus and Flange are particulary awesome. The doubler is a cool effect. Kind of like a quick reverb. In stereo sounds like two guitars. Echo is standard echo, works fine.

Reliability : 8
I've never had a problem with it. Good thing since ADA is out. Try to find these things in decent shape, and with a foot pedal! Gigged with it many times no problem.

ADA is no more.

I play classic, new, old any rock. Been playing for 15 years. I'm done playing with "toy" effect boxes and racks. This unit fits what I need.
