this units sound quality is excellent , the distortions are amazing , everything from pure adrenelin over the top firey soling , to clean glossy blues , and the clean settings can be quite good for jazzy chording stuff , i used the ecc on almost all of my cd , where you can listen to on mp3.com , under SCOTT GAY , TALONSLASH , and INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROJECT, can get a little noisy in the high gain stages if not tweaked right

id give the ecc an 11 if there was a scale to 10 , for the distortions alone its killer , i find the effects to be great myself , dont have a complaint , other than the ac adaptor , instead of an ac/dc cord plug on the ass end of the thing

Using a Les Paul and Laney AOR 100 half stack. The unit can be noisy if you dont use your noise gate right....fortunately the gate on this thing is great, as soon as I kill the signal from my guitar the thing goes flat dead. The distortion on this thing is great....believe it on not I prefer it to my TS808, I use several of the different distortions too...most are great. The other effects are good, the chorus effects might be a bit weak though. The reverbs great. Pitch shift could use some work though. Wah is great if you hook up an expression pedal. EQ, flange and delay arent exeptional but are still good. The distortion is by far the best effect on it.

This thing has awesome sound for a lot of the effects. I am using a Fender Deluxe 112 with it which isn't a great amp but it still sounds pretty good. This can get pretty noisy with distortions but if you use the noise gate correctly it will help a lot. There are 8 distortions and about half of them are good. Some of them are just loud and sound like crap. The delay is great, maybe a little but digital though at times i find. Chorus is pretty good. Flanger is okay. Tremelo also good. The great thing about this is it really lets your guitar shine through unlike some multi effects pedals I have tried. This is the best multi effects pedal I've ever used.

This thing is great for the style of music I play. I play everything from Zakk Wylde to stevie Ray Vaughan and this helps on the sound bigtime. I have developed my own style of music which is Bluesy, rock. I use the delay and chorus a lot and I also got a got bluesy sound out of the distortion.

To me the Presets were useless for my needs. It is completely programable and the instruction manual is well laid out. It took me a long time to learn how to get a good sound out of it. The good tones are in there, you just have learn the unit. It's easy to edit on the fly and make minor tweaks between songs at a gig.

I use an Ibanez RG-450 into the input of the ECC and run the left out of the ECC into the power amp in on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. When pluging the unit in the Fenders preamp in, I wasn't getting the sensitivity I desired. This is double pre-amping and increasing the gain stages creating more noise. It had a harsh solid state feel and no sensitivity. Going direct from the ECC to the power amp in gave me that natural compression I was looking for. I use the amp reverb for playing live. The unit's reverbs are fine and I use them when recording direct but I love that Fender spring reverb for playing live. With your noise gate set properly it is completly silent. I love all the effects except the flanger. The 5 band EQ and chorus is outstanding. My favorite destortions are the high screaming tube #3, the normal sreaming tube #6 and the overdrive #8. I'm mostly a country/blues/rock player and don't really use the metal sounds. I really dont have any favorite artist but my background comes from this order: Ventures, Hendrix, Santana, Alman Bros, Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton and many others. I am 52, so that expains all the older influences. I kind of developed my own style over the years and don't really purposly try to copy any the above artist. I've got certain guitars tones I've come to love and the ECC does very good job of helping me reproduce that. The thing I love about the ECC other than guitar tone is I get all the effects for a paticular patch with just one punch of a botton playing live(at a gig) where with pedals you are continuously doing a tap dance to keep up.

I have used it contiuously since Dec 1995 without a backup but there has been a fue problems. In 1998 the battery went dead loosing all memory. I had to reprogram all my patches from memory and had to keep re-tweaking them until they sounded right. I then made notes on all my patches for future reference. It's a good thing I did because this summer I went on vacation and when I got back and hooked it up all my distortion setting had gone crazy. Everything else was OK. The only thing I could figure that happened was I had turned the air off in the house while I was gone and the unit got to Hot????I got my notes and reprogramed the distortions and its been OK to present. At present the indicator light for bypass and patch #1/distortion dosn't work. The data wheel has got squirly in that it jumps digits when trying to program. Say you trying to get to 4, it may jump from 3 to 6. I have to turn the data wheel back and forth until I get the number or sometime go out of edit mode and back in again to get the digit I need. More on the Fix under customer support.

The ECC is not the end all of all multi-effects pedals. There is a lot of new more advanced pedals out there being introduced daily. The ECC is my first box of this type. Previously I alwayed used stomp boxes in conjunction with built in amp effects. So I haven't compared other units to this. The thing with the ECC is that it is a tool to me. This is a tool that I know like the back of my hand and so familiar with that I can easily program any guitar sound I need quickly that will sound great. I intend to have it repaired and continue using it and when I get a chance I'll try out some of these new boxes. I will probably always keep the ECC, its built military tough, you can get great sounds with a little programing experance, its great for direct or miked(in conjunction with a amp) recording, its dependable for gigs with a little maintainace from time to time and I've been very pleased with this Box.

This unit is some noisy using distortions, but the key is to control the ratio of the compressor section, the eq., and the amp. simulation. The sound quality is good for the money, I mean, if you have a good guitar and a good amp you'll get a very good sound. There are few good fabric presets, but you can make your own presets, and get your own sound. Using the headphones jack with an RCA cable connected to a mixer you'll get a very clean and good sound. One friend has the Digitech RP-10 and I compared it with the ART ECC. Overall, I liked more the ECC, the RP-10 effects sound very good but very similiar, and is some difficult to use (presets). Maybe more effects (phaser, rotary speaker, more reverbs and dealys) would be better, but the effects are very good. I have made a page ( http://members.xoom.com/kiks/frameindex.htm ) full of my own presets. They are clasified by artist, group, jazz, metal, rock, blues, etc. Please visit the page and share your own presets.

I have been playing for a while, almost 8 years, and I like a lot of styles of music, rock, hard rock, blues, metal, jazz, grunge. The ECC helped me to improve my sound quality, and it gave me the sound I wanted and I needed. I would liked more effects, like phaser, other reverbs and delays, and more distortions, but the ECC has more that I've expected for the money I paid.

The effects "chart" on top of the unit is a real time saver. As per programming, anyone who knows what they're doing when they set up patches shouldn't even need the manual, which gives detailed instructions on a third-grade level. Very ergonomically designed.
Caveat: Don't play outdoor gigs with this thing. You CANNOT read the display.

The preamp is the reason I bought the unit in the first place, and considered the effects to be gravy- until I wanted to satisfy my Kevin Shields jones, and was disappointed.
Preamp: There is almost no control over the compressor; all you get is control over the ratio, and even then, you only get four preset settings. Maxed out, though, you can get some great Dyna-Comp style thwunk. The distortions are very good when cranked; they preserve the guitar's sound, and are pretty dynamic. (Caveat: The "Screaming Tube does NOT sound like a Tube Screamer.) They suck at warm clean tones, however- for a warm clean sound, bypass the distortion altogether and use compression and EQ like that in the "Crystal Chorus" preset and reverb- the AMP's reverb.
Modulation: Those effects sound, in a word, digital. In other words, keep the rate and depth down on your choruses and flangers unless you are effectively going for a sound like that. (I maxed out the inverted flanger on a preset. Give it a shot; it's a giggable sound if you're going for sheer lunacy for eight bars.) The tremolo sounds like shit, as does the pitch shifter, except when you set it a full octave below in order to emulate an electric 12-string.
Delay and Reverb: Very papery, digital sound.
Overall: WATCH YOUR HIGH END!!! The treble control on my amp (a Sunn Model T) was on 5 for my Gibson, and 2.5 for my Telecaster! The speaker simulator isn't, so don't rely on it for help.

What made me sell the unit was the fact that I had five (5) episodes where the unit's lights would light up like a Christmas tree and all the parameters on all the patches would go to zero. One of the times was a gig- finishing it sucked when a couple tunes on the set list had to be scratched. A backup wouldn't be worth the money.
Some of the reviewers said their units were bulletproof. I'm glad for them; however, I'm here to tell you that consistency is not a strong suit here.

I have been playing for 10 years, doing hardcore punk, blues, shoegazer music, "post-punk", Andy Summers-type guitar playing, jazz, and a few other styles. I'm still trying to get my own sound together, which means that my palette is somewhat eclectic at this point, and like to be able to get any tone that I need. The ECC was about 65% satisfying- fine preamp; papery and watery effects.
If the friggin' thing worked all the time, I wouldn't complain. However, the ECC's failure rate negates any of it's positive attributes.

The ECC is very easy to use due to the matrix display on the front and the encoding knob. The greatest thing about this unit is that it is very easy to edit and store patches especially when you have to do them on stage. Everything is very simply organised and you know what effect you are changing because of the matrix display.

The sound quality of the distortions are second to none for an effects processor in this price range. The distortions are all very distinctive and cover alot of different style from blues to heavy metal. You can get a good crunchy rock rythm to a smooth high distortion lead sound and just about everything in between. What I like most about the distortions are that they allow the guitars tonal qualities shine through. That means that different guitars will NOT end up sounding all the same through the ECC. Another thing about the ECC is that the distortions respond very well to pick attack. Unlike most other processors which sound very undynamic, the ART ECC's distortion is quite responsive. If you pick really hard, the harmonics really ring out. This is why I chose the ART ECC because when I compared to the KORG AX30G or Digitech RP6, the distortions just kicked their butts. The clean sounds however are alright. They sound a little dull, so need careful eqing to get the most out of. This doesn't really bother me as the ART ECC excels at distortion and this is why I bought it. If I want to play totally clean, I would bypass the ECC stright into a clean amp. The time based effects are O.K. The delays are quite good and so are the reverbs.

For an effects processor that does most things well and excels at distortions, for the price I think it can't be beat. I love my ECC and wouldn't trade it for anything. Kicks but on Zoom 4040 and lower priced digitech stuff. Distortions will kick any stand alone distortion pedal.

Was able to edit presets in 5min. after looking at the little plastic card, 20min. to make them sound good. I know that is has been upgraded because my teacher has the newer one, I think, I have the one with the pink stripes and he has the one with the white ones on top of the effect squares.

Using with Mesa/Boogie Mark IV and Gibson LP studio 50th edition. Some the presets are very good but just need the gate turned up or down, something like that. The effects are prettey good for the price, the delay could be longer, distortion more distorted(has plenty of gain though), and wah pedal could be built in.

This is great if your getting bored with a Fender Roc/Pro(which I had when I bought it) and just about ever other amp. Great beginner effects, much better than having a row of pedal. I wish it had an internal AC/DC converter( I hate wall warts) and sounded like a 8x12 full stack on a 1x12, but it ain't gonna happen.
