If you like flange like I do,You might enjoy this unit.Thats the only effect that sounds good.I use a E.H. Q-Tron in the effects loop and I get all the sounds that I like. What I like about this unit is it was the perfect idea.Too bad most of the presets are a joke. Its fun to fart around with.

This unit is the original Night Bass not the SE version. The factory presets are useless, so you have to use the editing function which is relativly easy to use if you're a rocket scientist. Once you get the hang of it, editing parameters is wide open (too bad everything sounds like crap).

When I think about the stuff I sold to buy this thing (in 1992) I want to cry. The preamp section sounds like geese farts on a muggy day, the compressor is a noise generator, the distortion sounds like bacon frying, the overdrive sounds like a kazoo, the modulation effects simluate an out of tune bass, the auto wah sounds like swamp mud, and the patch bay cuts most of the signal. On the postive side (very small side) the reverb and delay are OK. Too bad I hate reverb on bass.

I'ts not suprising that I have not had problems with this unit because I hardly ever use it. I have found that It works good as a didjeridu effect unit. Now the presets make sense.

I checked into getting an upgrade to the SE model, but from what I've heard, it would be a waste of time.

If you are searching for the crappiest sound in the world, get a Night Bass. If you dream of mud tone, this is your baby. I you want to be lost in the mix, here's how. If you want to piss off you engineer, this will do it. But if you want good sound get an Ampeg or Alembic preamp and screw the effects. Most effect make basses sound out of tune anyway.
