Ease of Use : 10
This unit is simple to use: Output, Tone, and Drive. The tone, however, is simply the best that I've heard. The sweetest tone is achieved by selecting lower Tone settings (0-3). The unit also features a true bypass when switched OFF.

Sound Quality : 10
When I found this pedal, I was looking at amps. Old' Yeller was deadly accurate at tightening the low-end on the R2 channel of a Mesa/Boogie Mark IV, and helped produce a solid, rock tone. It can be used to add drive and sustain to a clean channel, or boost a rhythm/lead channel.

I play a Fender Telecaster with "Texas-Special" pickups, and an Ibanez RG-7620 with DiMarzio "Blaze" pickups. My current amp is a Peavey Classic 30. The Peavey has a good-sounding clean channel, but loses that tube tone in the overdrive channel. Ol' Yeller adds drive to the clean channel, while preserving all the tone and character. It simply "colors" the sound with rich drive and sustain. I also combined Ol' Yeller with my Marshall "The Guv'nor" to produce a very satisfying rock tone.

The bottom line is that Ol' Yeller always "adds" tone. It never subtracts any desirable tone from the signal path!

Reliability : 8
I purchased the unit used, and the footswitch had to be replaced. It was fitted with the same switch as my Marshall pedal (which also had to be replaced). Otherwise, the unit is solidly constructed. However, I will gig without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
When I was having problems with the switch, I emailed H.L.Wilson. He was very attentive and eager to see the problem corrected as soon as possible! I simply returned to unit to my dealer and it was repaired and returned quickly.

Overall Rating : 10
I enjoy playing a wide range of music, from the Hellecasters, to Dream Theater. But the bulk of my playing is Contemporary Christian and Choir music. Obviously, this pedal won't produce the high-gain sounds used by some progressive rock and metal bands, but it can cover most other needs.

This pedal is a better choice of anyone who is considering a Tube Screamer, new or old. I haven't found anything that I don't like about this unit. I love it! And, oh, what tone!!!

I would definitely replace it, if stolen or lost. It is a necessary part of my tone.

Plug it in and turn it on. It is very easy to dial in the tone that you are looking for 3 easily adjustable knobs (Output, Tone, Drive).

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal is buy far the best O/D pedal that I have played through. This pedal is very versatile. I prefer the thick, warm and meaty tube driven tones that the ol'yeller produces via a Les Paul into a Marshall combo. I own two of these pedals. The first pedal gives me the tone that I mentioned and the second pedal gives it an harmonic boost. (It is the same thick rich tone just thicker and richer.) The pedal has true bypass, so there is never a loss of tone; as does all of H.L. Wilson's pedals. There is also a nine volt adapter. I have played through a TS-808, TS-9, TS-10, TS-9DX, Fulltone Fulldrive 2, and a Klon Centeaur. I compared all of these pedals to the Ol'Yeller, and my conclusion was that there was no comparison. I sold my Fulltone Fulldrive 2 to buy them. When I first started playing all I wanted was the ts-808, or ts-9, or ts-10 because that is what SRV had played over the years. You will not sound like SRV with any pedal because there was only one SRV. Don't buy something just because someone else used it. If you are looking for thick, rich, driven tone then the Ol'yeller is the pedal for you.

Reliability : 10
Top quality construction, built to endure the test of time ....Although I have two it is not to surve as a backup, because I use both of them when I play. I have never had a problem with one of H.L.'s pedal.

Customer Support : 10
H.L. (Addrock) sells top quality pedals. He has had answered every question that I have asked. H.L. is a guitarist himself and he is in search of that unique tone and he builds pedals to help you achieve the tone that you seek. I have never needed an upgrade or a repair on any of H.L.'s pedals. But if I ever did, H.L. stands behind his work.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues, rock (classic, southern, christian), and praise music. The Ol'yeller is a top quality, great pedal. As I said earlier when comparing to other pedals there was no comparison. I would recomend this pedal to anyone! I rated this pedal "10's" across the board and that is with no exaggerations, I found the tones that I was looking for, quality craftsmanship, and first class service.

Great Sound! Its a 3-knobber (Vol, Tone, Gain). Unlike most OD/Distortion pedals, the tone pot has a very wide, usable range. No congestion here... Just tweak once and go!

Sound Quality : 10
Like stated before, this pedal can do the TS-808 thing and more. In its middle to higher gain settings, its not as mid heavy as an original 808 or even a Klon. It seems to be based around an 808 sound but its more transparent, not as congested with mids, and I believe it has a more gain. Its true bypass and has a place for a 9-volt adapter. Im using the pedal with a Relic Strat w/Virtual Vintage or Lindy Fralin Pickups into a Bogner, Top Hat, or '68 Plexi.

Reliability : 10
I truely believe I could gig without a backup.... BUT Ive seen EVERYTHING break so..... I bought another one just in case. I dont foresee any problems.

Customer Support : 10
HL is a musician with plenty of experience on the road, and he knows what players are looking for in tone. I've had an Analog Man TS9/808, Ive had a real 808 (sold), and Im selling my Klon. Any questions? Hes a good guy who keeps searchin' for the tone. One of the reasons I like "booteek" equipment is that the companies are smaller and can give you better Customer Service (theoretically). HL of Addrock meets all expectaitions and certainly put up with all of my lengthy questions!

Overall Rating : 10
I play: Rock, Funk, Blues, Jazz, and Fusion. Its good for all of those styles, probably country too. Um, I've ALREADY had one of these STOLEN from me(!), so I have bought another. He also makes a fuzz and an Octavia, which I havent tried yet, but I do plan to.

Very easy to use. 3 knobs output/tone/drive

Sound Quality : 10
I use this unit with an old TS-9. The Old yeller can do a TS-9 and a whole lot more. It can be made tube smooth or gritty/nasty. You can leave it on to warm up an amp or dial in some wicked sh-t.

Reliability : 10
Built tough. I would not need a back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to

Fusion/Jazz Victoria amp various guitars, Gibsons and Suhrs. Iwould replace it. I have played over 35 yrs. Bottom line - great tone!

The Ol' Yeller is an easy to use overdrive pedal with controls for drive, output, and tone.Very easy to dial in a great sound.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal has replaced my TS-808.It can easily cop the sounds of the Tube Screamer, but has a much wider range of tones.Though I primarily use Stratocasters
and Telecasters into any number of old Fender amps,I have used the Ol' Yeller with an ES-335 and a Les Paul and gotten equally stellar results.Switching is true bypass,so there is absolutely no change in tone when the effect is not engaged.I own two Ol' Yellers, and they sound great run in series for a Michael Landau/Burning Water Strat tone.Low settings on the tone control yield a singing Royal Scam era Carlton sound with a 335. This pedal has enough output to goose an already distorted amp and enough gain to use with a clean amp.

Reliability : 10
I play 3-4 gigs per week and have had no problems.Mine are early production models and have served me well for the past year and a half/two years.I would absolutely gig without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
My pedals have never needed repairs, but I have had many lengthy conversations with H.L. Wilson (Mr. Addrock) regarding all of his products. He is very accessible and stands behind his work.

Overall Rating : 10
Four out of five dentists surveyed recommended the Ol' Yeller for their patients who chew gum.It has a refreshing drop of Retsin. It's part of this nutritious breakfast. And most importantly, chicks dig it.
