Ease of Use : 10
Very easy and self explanatory. Got it second hand without any manual, yet in seconds I was able to use it.

Sound Quality : 2
Sound quality wise, this crap is totally useless due to its high pitch noise it generates everytime it tunes. Tried to move it around in the chain; berore all efects, after all effects, using my Peavey TKO115 effect loop, using DI Out from the amp, using stereo out from the Alesis Microverb 4, still, this crap cause such an annoying high pitch noise. I suspect when it tunes, it actually leaks the ground and the data path, causing this.

If you think this unit is true bypass, it's either you are deaf or your amp is not capable in producing the frequency.

OK, I have to give it a 2 for its speed in tuning. It works fine in that area. But of course, question is, if you can't insert this anywhere in the chain, how the f are you going to use this? Using the mic? Forget it, it's quite slow with the mic, not to mention the fact that background noises will render this unit useless.

Reliability : 7
Plasticy shit... mine still ok though after 2 years and god knows how long the previous owner use it for.

Haven't got chance to deal with them. No comment here.

Overall Rating : 2
A piece of junk. If it's stolen, I would laugh my ass out thinking how the bugger who stole would get annoyed by this shit. Would probably get a Boss pedal tuner instead.

Very simple use, plug in, tune and go!

Not used the calibration button, don't think I ever will!

Manual was very basic, but so is the pedal.

Sound Quality : 3
This is where it failed; BIG TIME

When in the "True Bypass" mode, a buzzing could be heard on the amp, particularly accentuated when using distortion. I used different leads, different amp, different guitar, no change.

I don't know why it did this, but it did. So I decided to take it apart. To my surprise I discovered that THE PEDAL IS NOT TRUE BYPASS AT ALL; the guitar is permanently connected to the tuner's input.

Anyway I decided to re-wire the switch so that it was true bypass, using the same switch, only replacing a couple of the wires for shielded ones (because the box is plastic it doesn't shield.) The pedal now works better than designed as it IS true bypass now, and it doesn't tune when the pedal is bypassed - a very annoying feature of the stock model. This mod also disabled the Mic, meaning no feedback!!!

Reliability : 6
It's plastic which gives a shielding problem; leading to noise. Also this makes it slightly weak, but I think it's quite sturdy.

The switch feels fine, so too are the LEDs and LCD. I really like the big rubber pads on the bottom; stop it sliding about!

Never dealt with them; don't wish to!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If I were to lose the pedal, or heaven forbid, it broke, then I would save up my hard earned money and buy the Boss TU2 as it's more reliable, looks better, and best of all it will last!

I like the mod. that I have done to the pedal, it has increased its performance for me.

Ease of Use : 10
This pedal is very easy to use. Tunes smoothly and accurately. Didn't get a manual with it, as I bought it secondhand.

it also has a mic too, so I can tune my acoustic guitar as well.

Sound Quality : 10
My current setup is the following:

1967 CAR Fender Jazzmaster > Krank Cheetah Scream Treble Boost > Frantone Peachfuzz > Frantone HepCat > MXR 6 Band EQ > Voodoo Lab Tremolo > Morley Emerald Echo > Akai Tune Lok tuner > Silverface 70s Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp.

it works well within this setup.

It is also true bypass.

Reliability : 5
hmmm...not sure if it is dependable 100%, as it is sadly, plastic.

the footswitch doesn't feel very sturdy either, I'm afraid.

still, I'd gig with it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with them.

the Akai site is pretty good though.

I downloaded the manual from there.

Overall Rating : 8
Overall, it's a decent tuner.

tunes quickly and accurately.

I would opt for the Boss next time though if I sold it or had it stolen.

the Boss tuner seems to be pretty sturdy, and it's a favourite with many players.

Ease of Use : 10
totally easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
it is true bypass... you can use this thing without a battery in it just as a mute switch... as for the "freak out" mentioned... it has a mike in it so that if you remove a cable from it without it being muted it switches to mic input, which will create shreaking feedback if you're using a loud amp...

Reliability : 8
mine has worked flawlessly but my friends have had minor problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
the best tuner on the market, better than the boss, true bypass (not on the boss), easy to read, built in mic for acoustic instruments (not on the boss) and its cheaper.

This pedal is pretty simple. The calibration would take reading the manual first if you want to do it yourself. But otherwise it tunes really well, and does not get lazy. The lights fade in and out to show you subtle changes.

Sound Quality : 1
This is where this pedal is really bad. It mutes when you hit the switch, but if it is not muting it always tunes. When ever it is trying to tune it puts this irratating high pitched noise in the chain. This is useless in the chain. Also it can "freak" out. I don't know how to explain this except that when a cord gets pulled out or something it just goes crazy with horrible loud squeals and such.

Reliability : 5
The freaking out would make it unreliable to me. It is also extremely light and I question the strength of the case.

This pedal is my backup because I can't stand the noise.

Customer Support : 1
Bad support. I have emailed twice about these noise problems, wondering if I just got a bad one. No response. Not even an auto-responder.

Not impressed.

Overall Rating : 2
This pedal tunes really well. If you use one out of your chain it will be just fine. If you use it in your chain to do onstage silent tuning etc. the noises make it almost unusable live. The noise is much more apparent when you are loud.

The prime reason I bought this tuner was for the fact that I give a clear 10 in this catagory. Out of several tuners I tried, this had the smoothest action of all. Tuners often have a habit of wavering annoyingly, although you might get there eventually. This doesn't do it at all. Tuning is achieved via both smoothly lit LEDs (5), and a good sized LED display to tell you the note name. Another plus is the floor pedal design - sits right into your guitar chain, and a footswitch is there to mute the guitar for silent tuning. Battery compartment is well designed (no top mounting battery clip with trailing wires that may break one day. The battery slips straight into the housing.

Sound Quality : 10
Apparently true-bypass, so sound shouldn't be compromised. Take out the battery and theres still sound from the guitar, so I guess it means your signal is not going through any additional electronics.

Reliability : 5
Well, here's the only caveat: it's plastic. So while I've been very generous (for good reason) with my ratings above, I'll have to say 5 in this catagory. As a stompbox (which is what it is really), anything made of plastic ain't going to be as rugged as the same thing made of metal.

Other than the plastic issue, this is in mty opinion, the easiest to use tuner I've seen.

Ease of Use : 6
Quite Easy. Switch on side of unit selects on/off/sleep mode. Calibrate button is directly on top of unit, and could easily be pressed. Be careful not to mis-calibrate accidentally. Tuning is indicated by the brightness of the lights, so it could be hard to read outdoors or on a bright stage.

Sound Quality : 2
I bought the pedal because it was advertised as being true-bypass.
This is either wrong, or the true-bypass is designed very poorly. There IS signal loss when the pedal is in the chain.

I A/B'd with other true bypass pedals which I own, just to eliminate a bad cable and/or normal signal attenuation that occurs with a true-bypass pedals. This pedal will dull/darken the tone of your guitar.

For comparison's sake, I found the tone loss to be about the same as a Vox Wha pedal and Marshall Guv'nor in bypass mode. If you have these pedals and the bypassed sound isn't an issue, I'd say you'll be fine with this pedal.

Reliability : 7
Seems fairly reliable--swappable leads for the battery, switch, and jacks. Cannot confirm long-term reliability as pedal was returned the next day.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I did not contact the company. Given company's claims that this pedal is true bypass, I would not buy another Akai product.

Overall Rating : 3
If you're using a Vox Wha, Marshall Pedal, DOD, Danelectro effects, you probably not notice the tone difference with this amp. Also, a dirtier or less dynamic amp will sound fine with this pedal as well.

Unfortunately lack of advertised true bypass in the pedal is unacceptable for me. It was sent back the next day.

not hard to use-manual is very short but covers everything you need to know.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
i don't hear a change in the tone with it plugged in-you can't really bypass it,so that's a good thing.

Reliability : 8
this is kind of cheesy/plasticky looking on the outside, but the inside
looks much better-we'll see i guess, but it could last a while...

Overall Rating : 8
this tuner works well and hopefully it will keep working-would i try to find another one? probably not,but that's just me...OK deal for what i paid, though.
