easy, but sliders are abit small and hard to move. I guess that is why it's cheap.

setup between MX802A analog mixer and ART310 analog crossover. No noise or popping noticed.
This is the only EQ that I have had a really good chance to fiddle with, but noticed something worth mentionning here:
When running a tone generator through it (room tuning), I found that the center frequencies of some of the bands are not as advertised on the front panel. Not so bad in the lower and higher range, but around the 1K region, centers are actually as much as 1/3 octave higher than what they are labelled. This can be worked around once you are aware of it. Individual bandwiths also seem to be very wide and spilling much into the ones beside. But then again, I never tested others that way. It just seems wrong.

still works great after 6 years.
Some careless a-ole I know once managed to spill a drink into it even though the unit is racked. Sliders got REALLY sticky and impossible to move. Sometimes cutting out entire bands from the output.
I openned the simple unit myself and cleanned the slider contacts with q-tips/rubbing alcohol; all of which was very easy to do and took about 10 minutes. Everything now works like new.

All kinds of music run through there, but mainly electronic. And in a fixed setup that hardly ever moves. If it were stolen/lost I would replace it with the same. It is good value for what I need it for.

Fairly straight forward. Decent manual to tell you how to get the basics of what you are looking for. The only downfall is the small sliders are difficult to move when you are in a hurry. It would be best for a "set it and forget it" sort of set up.

Solid sound with it. I even hooked it up to my stereo with the optional rca inputs and it sounded great.

I've only had it for a while but there are so few parts I cant see how it would break down. Pretty inexpensive anyway.

Great sound with medium level signals, big trouble with large level signals like lead vocal monitoring. After a BIG SHAME in stage monitoring. I taked a closer look to the truble: No headroom and no indication for a saturated input, the only indicator is for over level output. The solution: Change the LM 7812 and LM 7912 (+/- 12 volt regulators) for LM 7915 and LM 7915 (+/-15 volts regulators), also push all way up the level control. With those +/- 3 more volts and the setting, if someone screams to a mic, the overload led will turn on and the output sound is near to clip.

Actually don't know, when dealing with the trouble, Alesis was out of bussiness

I use it for monitors in a rental audio gear. Dual 1/3 octave 30 band equalizer in 1 rack space is good. I hate wall warts, so for all my 230's I had build a single AC power supply and cleared the gig

I use this as needed in a home studio. It still works great even after the early life as part of a touring guitar rig. I'd recommend it if you need an EQ, and it's cheap!

Graphic EQs are pretty self-explanatory. You simply boost or cut the fader. If the ease of use of an EQ was less than 10 I might start to worry about it.

I bought this thing for recording purposes and, as such, it has served me well. One note, however: by switching the EQ bypass switch on and off, it is very apparent that the unit colors the sound (even when there's no EQ being used). Therefore, if you're not using it, leave it switched out.

As far as recording purposes go, you can depend on the M-EQ 230. It's fairly rugged. I've only had problems with it once when a friend stepped on it and the power supply was damaged (but then, it's not made to be stepped on). Would I take it on a gig? Probably.

Even though my unit needed servicing, I didn't go through Alesis. As such, I can't comment on their customer support.

As far as outboard gear goes, the M-EQ 230 is probably the single most helpful device I've ever added to my modest home studio (more useful than reverbs, compressors, enhancers, etc.). With 30 bands of EQ, you can fix nearly any sonic inconsistancy (or at least come close). Plus, the fact that there's two channels on the thing makes it great for shaping the sound of an entire stereo mix. Overall, I recommend this unit.

This EQ does not sound good at higher sound levels. I would not recommend you EQ your PA with it. During a performance the PA kept making a "popping" noise and it was tracked back to the EQ unit.

See sound quality section. With normal PA sound levels the EQ was making loud "popping" sounds.

(Again, I am refering to the MEQ-230 31-Band EQ) since
there is no review...Got to have one!!!
