Alesis MicroVerb II

Extremely simple to use.

I hate to give this a good review, because then everyone will buy them up off eBay and there will be none left should all of mine break...heh...But truth is, I LOVE this thing. Put it in the FX loop of your amp (if you have one) and you'll forget about using spring reverb again. I usually use the "large 3" setting - "large 4" if I want a little more delay. It's great for recording too - surprisingly quiet. Quite amazing really - stick your guitar into a fuzz pedal then into this (no amp) and you can still get a good sound. I have two and I'm always looking to buy more just to have around in case one dies.

So far so good. One of mine has a bad input or output jack and I have to monkey with it to get it to work in stereo - no problem, I just use that one for my guitar amp. Anyway, the ones I have are REALLY old and have gotten a lot of use and abuse, so no complaints here.

What a great bargain, especially now that they're so cheap. Perfect for the home studio as well as live use. I'd absolutely buy more if all mine were lost, stolen, or destroyed. I have an ART Multiverb II that I've used for recording, but it's REALLY noisy. For just reverb, you can't beat the Microverb for the price.

Ease of use, plug in yer geetar...plug it in to yer amp. Twist da k-nobs to yer verb satisfaction. That sound purdy dern easy to me.

This is where this little box surprised me. I've been searching for a reverb for my verbless amp. The first one I tried was a Boss RV-3 that a friend loaned me. Very touchy. Took me a bit of twidling to get a decent reverb tone. I finally did and the RV-3 sounded pretty good.

Next up, I found a Midi Verb ll at a pawn shop for $40 -$50 bones. I still have it and use it once in a while. not so much since Jr came along. Nice sounding unit. I realize these are probably not made for guitar, but there are several settings on each that work very well for me.

Next up, Digitech Digiverb. I know others use and rave about this one, but it did nothing for me. I think these units are amp dependant. The sound changes depending on what amp you use. With my amp, the Digiverb did not do it for me regardless of the amount of tweaking I did. I know other palyers who swear by it and get get tones from it, so there ya go.

NEsxt up, a buddy sent me a new Holy Grail for my birthday. Well, thank you very much! Nice present. I must say, I like the grail a lot. The spring setting is nice and the hall setting is very good. However, ( again, through my amp ) this little Alesis I paid $25 bucks for used is every bit as good. Of course, it does not have the Spring setting, but I can pretty much ape anything the HG can do with it. I actually find myself plugging the Micro in instead of the HG.

If you see one cheap enough, do yourself a favor and buy it. I already ahd the HG and the Midi Vrb when I came across this one. It was too cheap not to pass up. I figured I'd sell it and double my $$ if I didn't like it. Well, now I have 3 reverbs....and, I'll probably keep all three.

Back to the sound quality.....very good. I'll save the 10 for a Fender unit or a Valveverb or Demetor....but for my needs, ( blues baby! ) this little jewel will suffice.

I bought mine used without a manual, and the downloaded an extremely good one off the alesis website. Setting the input and output volumes are easier than it looks, and then you just leave them. As for the mix and effect nobs - its a piece of cake! i bought this unit mainly for its simplicity, and i wasnt disappointed!

Im sure there are better units out there which is why im giving this an 8. However, you have to balance 3 things - ease of use, sound quality and price. for my purposes i was willing to sacrifice a small about of sound quality in favour of the other two options, and in fact i was amazed by just how good it sounds for the money.

its been around for a few years already (i got mine off eBay) and is almost mint. I'd happily rely on it.

never needed them, but im gonna give them a 10, just for having manuals on their website for gear they dont even make anymore! well done guys!

Thoroughly recommended. Keep your eyes open cos every now and then one of these goes for a real bargain (i can't believe I got mine for under #40 inc postage!). A great bit of gear!

Simple. 4 knobs. Turn the input up until the red light flashes, then back it off a bit. Turn a knob to choose your reverb. No confusing editing screens and buttons. Never had the manual, never needed it.

I use this in my recording rig (Roland VS1680). Not noisy and sounds better than the reverbs in my DAW or in my Alesis Midiverb, though not as many choices of reverbs, and of course, no effects other than reverb. I especially like the large #3 verb for big, lush old-timey reverb, and the large #4 for it's crazy-huge long decay. Great at the end of a song. This is a surprisingly sweet sounding unit, especially considering how inexpensive they are these days

This thing has been abused, and it still works perfect.

Never had to deal

A great piece of gear. If it were lost or stolen, I'd either buy a new one, or spend a whole lot more to replace it with something else!

Easy but not on the versitile side. Still the easiest rack mounted effects unit on the market

Hey, it works and has been working for 15 years. No noticable floor noise. Probably because the high frequencys on the effects are subdued at the factory and there is no adjusting of it. So it's great for anything but the main vocals. It does not shimmer...meaning, the "room" sounds like it has a bit of carpet on the walls and not like you're singing in a bare naked metal walled room. Adjustments are VERY limited and so I feel this reliable unit is best suited for rehearsal, clubs and home demos. I can't image anyone spending some money on a CD or show would use this.
Another thing is that even that it has right and left inputs and outputs it is not really stereo.
Has 30 preset reverbs, 20 delays, 10 gated reverbs, 10 reverse reverbs, 10 flanges, 10 choruses and 10 special efx. The only adjustments are the input, output and mix. Great for using when stoned or drunk. No "user patches" are available. So you cannot fine tune delay times or number of repeats, etc.

My newer quadreverb died years ago but this unit keeps on ticking.

These guys are out of business I believe.

I've been playing guitar almost daily since 1974. I have had a home studio for over 15 years. I have an old Yamaha SPX 90 as well. If it broke i would buy something new. It works good but new stuff is better and cheaper. You gotta love that inflation hasn't hit the elctronics industry to any major degree.
No it's day it was a great value.

Seems mostly geared to sound reinforcement and recording, there's only a couple of the 'verbs that I like for guitar. It's very quiet. Sounds rather "digital" now, but for the time it was great.

Solit metal case, probably last forever.

A cheap, small, fairly high quality reverb, that's very handy to have around.

This is real simple to use, to just get loudest sound you can, turn down the input until the light turns green and it's ready! S'got input, mix and output and a reverb selecter knob, easy easy!

I use this in my guitar rig, and it's a really great sound! You can get the perfect Jeff Buckley sound out of this, it's got that infinate reverb, which absolutly nails it!

Ok, here's what you do to run it into your guitar rig. You get a pre-amp, anything that accepts guitar and converts to line level, like a zoom box for example. Then you run a 2 way splitter out of it (like a double adapter), and run one to your amp, and one to the Alesis. Then you run the Alesis into an EQ, and take off ALL the bass. Once that's done, run the signal into your amp as well. Having an amp with 2 inputs helps with this, or just get a double plug. What happens is the first signal that runs from the pre-amp into your amp is a clean signal, and it's untainted by digitality :). Now the second signal is the reverb signal, and it's got all the bass taken off it, so it's a nice un-obtrusive reverb with no muddyness. Now you can crank it on infinate, and it will sound COOL!

I give it 10, because, when used like this, it's mega mega cool! Very unique rhythm sound, great for dynamic playing.

As easy as it gets! Even my grandmother would not need a manual to use it.

Pretty good for this price-range. Adds a little bit of noise to the signal, but if you use it with a mixer and don't add to much to the mix it should sound o.k.

Ease of use? Piece of cake. Maybe easier. If you've struggled your way past Kindergarten, this reverb unit should be a no-brainer to use. In, Out, Mix, and Reverb sound. No parameters, just down and dirty reverb. No manual? No problem. This effects unit is as simple as pie to use.

I know this is looking BACK on a purchase 10 years ago, but for the money, it was one of the best musical investments I EVER made. The unit is fairly quiet (especially when used in an effects send off of a good board). It's FAR less conspicuous in a mix than my Mircroverb III, which seems to add a great deal of hiss an noise to the mix. The Microverb II isn't noiseless, but it sounds pretty damn good overall! If you're a budget studio or a budding recording artist and if you can find one of these units for less than $100, I would recommend it HIGHLY. Sounds damn good for what you pay.....

This unit has NEVER failed me. That may have something to do with its construction, which seems VERY sturdy. I used it for YEARS in a traveling rack with no backup, and was never disappointed me. I've used it for as long as I've HAD it without backup, so I would call it extremelyt trustworthy. The wall wart can be a pain (if you're starved for power-strip space), but I've worked my way around that in my own rack systems, so I wouldn't call it a complaint.

I've never needed to call Alesis about this unit.

I think that this unit was a revolutionary piece of gear when it came out. There are cleaner units out there; there are even cheaper units out there. But for an overall package, the Microverb II seems hard to beat (at least for ME). Again, if you can find one for under $100, jump at it. For the money, you probably won't find a better deal.

can't get much easier than 4 knobs (input, mix, output, Patch).

I have found that the odd numbered patches have more noise than the even. Other than that not bad for an entry level workhorse. I use mine for demo tracking and for my guitar rig live. It won't be good for quality studio recording.

I have had mine for years and finally the wall wart went on me.

If you know it's limitations, it is a very usefull item to have in your collection. With it's small size and simplicity I would recomend buying one. I would buy it again if I needed it.

It is extremely easy to get a nice, natural 'verb out of this box. about 4 knobs..

My 4-track recordings sounded terrible before i got this.. now i put the drums and guitar through it and it sounds great(at least for a cassette 4-track) It adds a nice character and every sound is useful. It has some nice gated reverbs as well as some twisted reverse ones.

The box is reliable, but the AC adapter(wall wart) just broke... I hate those things.

Very nice little reverb unit. I'd like programability, but hey it's cheap and sounds great... What else is there?
