two knobs.

perfect.

They do EXACTLY what they say they will do.

Sound Quality : 10
Very VERY good sound.

exactly what I want from an octave pedal.

I am NOT stupid or basically mis-informed as to what an octave pedal can do---supposed to do.

I have read many reviews of bass octave pedals on this review forum and it is quite clear that a great many of the reviewers are dumbly un-aware of what a bass octave pedal is or is supposed to be.

Please ignore these.

This pedal is very musical sounding unlike other octave pedals.

Reliability : 10
Big block of steel.

if you dropped it on the ground, the ground would be more damaged than this pedal.

Ampeg is wonderful.

Great support.

Superb 5 year warranty.

Overall Rating : 9
My only problem is that there is no light that indicates when the pedal is on/off.

very good tracking.

I can even get a good sound on a bass that is de-tuned a whole step.

The low D sounds great on my Fender Jazz as long as I have the treble turned up and pluck really high close to the bridge.

very fat "organ" like sound.

The Ampeg octave sounds great when combined with an overdrive and an electro-harmonix bass Balls filter.---very synth like sound.

You really can't get too lost with only 2 knobs.....

Sound Quality : 10
It sounds fine, and it tracks well. Bypass sounds good, and does not suck the tone. Don't pay too much attention to the previous reviewer regarding the tracking ability of this unit. It is not polyphonic, and does not pretend to be. If you have sloppy technique, it will not track well. The only octave pedal that will track multiple notes is the Boss OC-3. set to polyphonic mode. The previous reviewer obviously did not know this. THERE IS NO OCTAVE PEDAL ON THE PLANET THAT WILL RELIABLY TRACK AN 8 STRING BASS PERIOD.

It's a liiiiitle over-priced for the features. I play several styles and I use pro equipment. This pedal would be a quality addition to anyone's effect arsenal.

Two knobs, easy.

I bought this pedal because I play an unusal setup and I was lead to believe that this pedal would solve all the problems that I have had with other octive pedals. I play through an 8-string bass, baritone strings right next to bass strings, so you are always getting two notes out of everything you do. Most octive pedals cannot handle more then one note without making creepy sounds and can't track very fast, so if you play riffs you screwed. The ampeg pedal was no different, shifting tones when you play two notes and it can't keep up when you play fast.
Even aside from the routine problems with octive pedals I didn't think the sound was anything to brag about, seemed kind of dull.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems very sturdy, well built, but I only owned it for one afternoon so I don't know how it would hold up.

I've had experience with other octive pedals and with sound effects in odd music and making unusual noises. With that in mind I would not reccomend the Ampeg pedal. You can get as much for less if you just buy a Boss octive pedal, it even handles multiple notes better. Perhapse if you're going to play reggee or something slow that needs minimal playing at very low levels this pedal would work, but again you get that and then some with a Boss pedal.
Frankly I see no reason this pedal should exist, it does nothing new and there are cheaper versions that perform as well if not better.
It does look good though...
