Ease of Use : 10
This pedal has more EQ options since it has Hi, Lo, and two MIDs. Other than that, it is like any distortion pedal out there.

Sound Quality : 9
My set-up goes as follows: Carvin 127 guitar, OD-1 /808 mod, MT-2/ Pro-Mod, Bad Horsie 2, DD-6 Delay, Ice Box Chorus, Yamaha T-100 (Choke Mod and Reverb mods by Soldano), Marshall cab.

Prior to the Mod I liked the metal zone a lot but, it lacked versatility since the distortion was "untame-able", living up-to its name. After the MOD the Metal Zone has more attack definition, more range of gain (less gain on the low position, but less gain on the cranked-up position also), and is more mid-range-y. The transistor-like sound is gone (good thing) but it lacks some sustain and has less high-over-the-top gain capability.
Nowadays, when I want to emulate the over-the-top distortion it used to have, I use it as a boost for the AMP's over-drive channel. This works great as long as the gain on that channel is lower than 12 o'clock. If this had not worked, I would somewhat miss my original pedal... But, since I found a way around it, I give it a 9 (for the decreased sustain)since it is a TONE machine and much more versatile.

Reliability : 10
Have had it for 10 yrs... built like a tank

Customer Support : No Opinion
Analog Man always answer their emails, but I have not needed repairs.. so no opinion.

Overall Rating : 9
I have played for 18 yrs. I used to play in a Prog. Metal band but also play modern praise and worship, plus instrumental stuff. I play Classical guitar, rock, funk and some blues-based thingsand I can honestly say I have a much more versatile unit now. BUT, if I need to venture into over the top distortion a la Tourniquet, I need to boost it up as I explained before... nevertheless for anything from White Lion, Dokken, EVH... It's all within the pedal and for rythms, it has much more definition than before, all notes can be heard now. Nevertheless, you will notice a drop in sustain if compared with the original version.. In the end the gains in TONE will be worth it (what matters most), plus you can always tweak your delay unit for sustain purposes.

Excellent Mod from Analogman. Very clear and very little noise. The equalizer is much improved-no white noise swishy wishy sounds. Im running a LP custom into a Fender blues jr.

Some tweaking to do but relatively simple. The stock manual has some suggested setting but you will have to build from there as the sound of this pedal HAS changed from the original.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm running this into a Groove Tubes Soul-O-75 on the clean channel With both a Heritage Les Paul and a Fender HM Strat(Aero Instrument Pickups on both). It's as quiet as anything. This pedal sounds great! It sounds like a morph between the original MT-2 and a Tube Screamer. It sounds very modern and at first I thought too modern(Mesa-Dual.Rec)...until I started turning knobs. With some tweaking it dead on nails the 80s hair metal sound.Jake E. Lee,George Lynch,Randy Rhoads,Akira Takasaki,Vivian Campbell(Dio years)...etc(they're all in there). This modded pedal is really tightened up compared to the original(no more Ratt,Poison or Pretty Boy Floyd). I've heard "If you don't like the original don't get X-guy's mod done to this pedal because you won't like it". Not so with this one. If you DO like the stock Metal Zone then I suggest you may not want to get this particular mod done. Now...as I said before about Ratt,Poison and P.B.F....I love all of those bands and thier guitars(especially Ratt)and the original pedal sounds pretty close to those genres...give or take a little fuzzy wuzziness(mostly give). If you like fuzzy wuzzy chchchchch dist...stick with the original. If you like impressive, thick, quality mids and highs for lead playing, articulate picking/shredding/"wah" voweled leads and being able to swing back to fat, phat chords w/tight,clean lows than this mod/pedal is the one for you. Now if you'll excuse me...I need to lay into the intro of "Rock and Roll Rebel" So long!

Reliability : 10
It's BOSS,peeps. 'nuff said

Mike has answered every email I've sent him. I've been impressed with the timeliness of thier work and every product I've heard sounds great and is very quiet. True Bypass means TRUE BYPASS and the DS-1 Pro Mod really DOES turn your Fender into a Marshall. I should know...I stood right here in my kitchen and witnessed it!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for around 12 years and I've played all kinds of heavy rock and this mod is awesome. It sounds huge running into my 1-12 combo...I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HEARING IT THROUGH A 4X12!! If there is one request I have...I would like for the dist to go to "11". Right now it's a hearty, beefy "10" but I would to be able to turn that dist into the "11" category the other one has...but can't have everything. The components that make this thing so killer are what takes away the fuzziness. But my overall rating? 10-This is a metal player/shredder's pedal...great addition to my rig. I can't wait to hear this thing mic'ed up.Word.

A bit harder with the 4 way eq compared to the other boss pedals for the exact sound u want, but once you have the sound just set and forget.

Sound Quality : 9
For a gained out tone in a pedal this can't be beat. I've heard my friend's metal zone and it sounds so much more sterile and weak compared to this. Mike's basically beefed up the stock mt2 sound, and it is perfect for the saturated Mellon Collie era Pumpkins tone, and for metal (duh). It works fantastically with my real mccoy wah too.

Reliability : 9
I've broken my wah switch a few times, but these boss pedals look like they can take a beating.

Customer Support : 10
I've recieved stuff from Mike twice and he was very quick in replying to e-mails and shipping the stuff out (I live in Oz)

Overall Rating : 9
I own the SD-1/808 and DS-1/pro mods as well. The sd1's for the blues/classic rock tone, and the ds/1's more of an alternative/fuzz type sound. The MT2 is alot smoother than the ds/1 and has ALOT more gain available. When u stomp on this pedal u can hear a roar (probably due to the dual gain circuit) that the other conservative pedals can't give.
