Mike did a DD2 and a DD3 for me both with early BIG chips
he is a total gentleman and genius in his field , I would like to thank him for this , I also have a Maxon AD 900 , alone these pedals are not as warm as the AD900 but set them right and use them together and they almost get there and the bonus is when you turn one off you can switch to your dirty channel on the amp without getting swamped with echo ! . just as good as digital can be , he almost makes them sound analog ..
(really) 10 +

I actually have the DD-3. It's an older made in japan model. The mod analogman does adds a mini toggle switch that has three positions. One position is the stock sound of the pedal with no change in sound. A second position rolls off some of the highs on the repeats. A third position rolls off more highs than the number two position. It really does not change the way the pedal is operated compared to stock. You just choose how much high end roll off you want and away ya go. Check out his website at analogman.com for more info.

Sound Quality : 10
The cool thing here is that you still have the stock sound of the pedal to compare to the mod sound should you choose to. The sound of the mod is simply great. It takes a pedal that in my opinion is almost unusable and makes it totally useable. It sounds good with my distortion boxes and even better with clean tones. I have always felt the DD-3 is pretty cool for a pedal delay but I almost never used it in my guitar rig for anything but "special effects" because the repeats are way too loud and clinical sounding. The newer boss pedal delays don't sound any better to me either. The analogman mod warms up the delay repeats. It's that simple. Sound quality greatly improved.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've had two other pedal mods done by analogman, a DS-1 pro and a TS-808 with the brown mod. Never had a single problem with either. The TS-808 is like 5 or 6 years old. I am sure the DD-3 Hi-Cut will offer the same kind of reliability.

Customer Support : 10
You will absolutely not find better customer support and service anywhere. Analogman always returns my emails quickly and answers my questions thoroughly. The most I have ever waited for a pedal to be worked on and returned was 7 days! That's amazing. No company I've ever dealt with is that fast.

I always read up on stuff before I buy it and Harmony-Central is one of the first places I go to get info. I do not write reviews of products very often and I only do a review when the product is outstanding. I play original rock and heavy blues type music primarily. I don't try to emulate any particular player but love all the usual guys. Beck, Hendrix, Page, Eddie VH, Satriani, Stevie Ray, blah blah blah. I play scalloped neck strats, the only way to go, with lindy fralins thru a variety of stuff, not gonna bore you with the details. I do use a Bogner Shiva EL-34 reverb head thru 2 Mesa 1x12 cabinets loaded with 25 watt celestion greenbacks, this combination is really flexible, is light to carry around and just kills. Been through an obscene amount of stuff over the years and have some excellent quality Lexicon gear I use in my home studio to compare the DD-3 to. Been playing since I was 6 years old, seriously since I was 11, and I'm 40 this year. Worked at a high end music store at one point in my life giving guitar lessons and selling sound reinforcement equiptment. Played lots of gigs. Okay, I'm done trying to convince you I'm not some idiot. Bottom line here is this is an excellent product that is offered from a great company. If this product is something you are considering, I recommend you buy it without any reservations. Hope this was helpful. Keep Rockin'!

Extremely easy to use. It's a boss pedal with an extra three way switch. the mid position is a "straight" dd2 and the left position and right positions are two different degrees of high cut. apparently the DD2/3 mod is unique in that it applies to the feedback loop of the repeats so repeats get darker and darker like a real tape echo.

Sound Quality : 10
I rather hate delay pedals. i have never found one i really liked until now. i have had all sorts of lexicon rack units and still have the venerable chandler digital echo which is amazing. i had a trex replica and it sucked. i have played the pete cornish TES which is based on the DD2 and it was the best delay pedal i've tried but it IS crazy pricey.... for $65 including shipping plus the cost of the DD2 this is an amazing bargain. the poor man's TES. the progressive darkness of the echos is effective and while it's not exactly a tape echo, it's in practical terms close enough without the noise and hassle.

Reliability : 10
it's a boss pedal. i imagine it's pretty bullet proof.

mike piera is fantastic and completely responsive and a pleasure to deal with. i've been dealing with him since 1998 and you can really count on him.

i play professionally in major jazz clubs in LA and my gear is really important to me. i have lots of amazing gear and it's always a pleasure when you find something that just works the way it's supposed to. analogman always delivers and this is no exception.

Mike installs a small three-way switch: one side is a mild high-end cut, the other side is a more pronounced high-end cut. Straight up is no high-cut (same as stock). Doesn't get much easier than this!

I'm playing an early 90's Deluxe Strat Plus with a Duncan Little '59 in the bridge position. I'm using Analog Man's Comprossor (Ross compressor clone), an old Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion with the 808 mod, a Boss SD-1 with the 808 mod and push/pull clipping control, the modded DD-2 Delay, and some other assorted pedals and bypass boxes. As you can see, I'm a big fan of Mike's work.
These all run into a couple of different amps, depending on the gig.
This Hi-Cut mod is way cool - I tend to use the "more cut" position most, since I love the darker sounding repeats. It gives it a nice analog feel - you can hear the repeats getting progressively darker, especially with higher feedback settings. You can't do the "infinite repeat" thing with the switch engaged, but that's not really a big deal to me. This will do the trick for me until Mike is making his own analog delays.

Reliability : 10
I know - "built like a tank" is used to death when describing Boss pedals, but if the phrase fits.....

Mike is the master of customer support. I have emailed him many times with all sorts of questions and he has ALWAYS responded quickly. I know that in the unlikely event of a problem - he would take care of it quickly and professionally. The big companies could learn a thing or two from him.

Overall Rating : 10
You can't go wrong with any of Mike's mods and pedals. Just check out his website and see how many top players are using his stuff. These are guys that can get anything they want. This particular mod is especially cool since used analog delays are getting amazingly expensive these days. It's still not an actual analog pedal, but it sounds great (especially compared to an unmodded digital pedal.) Mike sells the new Boss delays with this mod, but if you have an older one lying around like I did, it's even cooler since the mod is only $55.
