I've used it with Les Pauls, LP Jr's, V's, Strats and SG's and it sounds really good together with all of those guitars.
I use a JCM 800, Orange Rocker 30C and an old Marshall Plexi 50w. It does a real great job when You use it to push your amp, it get's You a real singing lead tone with lots of sustain.
I also have a YJM 308 pedal but it's nothing like this one, it is way too thin sounding. You can certainly achieve some screaming Yngwie tone with a strat and a vintage Marshall, but don't get discouraged if You're no Malmsteen-fan, 'cause it's much more than neo-classical tones to be delivered from this pedal. It also responds very well when You roll back on the guitar volume. The only downside is that it's a bit noisy if You crank it all the way up,but from what I've heard the original grey 250 is just the same.

I ordered the Mojo mod with true bypass and a LED-light, and the guys at Analogman were really fast to send me the pedal. I had it within a week, even though I live all the way over in Sweden.

I've been playing for almost 20 years and mostly rock music, and this pedal is a very good match if You're into that kind of stuff. Just make sure You order the LED-light on the pedal, 'cause it's very annoying not knowing if it's on or not.

I use a Fender Squire, scalloped, with Dimarzio HSM-3 in all pickups. Peavey Classic 30 all tube amp -use high gain channel, with preamp around 6.5.
I cannot describe how beautiful this unit makes my system sound! It is not only close to Yngwie's sound, but it just a beautiful sound. With my neck pick up I have the most incredible smooth tones I have EVER heard!

I know we are not supposed to rate things as a 10, but honestly I can't find any fault with the transaction or product. Both exceeded my expectations!!
The only comment I would make is that this unit IS designed for strats with HSM-3. Tried it on humbuckers and it wasn't all that impressive. Tube screamer/tone bone classic better for those. So just be sure you have the right guitar and pickup!

I found my YJM 308 to be a totally different pedal,in a great way!
The 741 Mojo mod/true bypass/led fitment I had performed by Mike, lets me use my pedal the way it was intended to be used,in front of a loud Marshall Plexi!Even the control knobs seem to work more smoothly!
The Mojo hand is definitely in the house on this one!

Of course I'm trying to replicate Yngwie's tone, with my 2005 Malmsteen signature Strat,Yngwie Magic strings Dunlop Tortex pick 1.5mm,ect.All I need is the talent, priceless, right!
Anyway I found the stock pedal to be incredibly noisy, harsh and thin sounding.
I am using the Analogman modded YJM308 with my infamous Marshall Handwired 100 watt Super Lead stack, see 100 watt Handwired review in Marshall section.
Now that it has been made to sound like a real Marshall, rather than the crap product turned out by the hyped up Marshall/Korg boys,I decided to have the DOD pedal modded so I could use it too!
It;s a shame that most things you buy these days, either are not what they claim to be,or don't reproduce the sound/tone advertised.
The pedal is now incredibly quiet, and is responsive at the lower gain settings as well now.
I am using it with the Boss NS-2 Noise Supression pedal,as does Yngwie.I am using the settings he reccomends on the Boss, but I don't really think I like the NS-2 now,and since the pedal is so quiet,I can use the DOD by itself, incredible!
The tone now is rich and warm, with much increased sustain, hats off to Mike at Analogman!!
I am going to try it with my Crate Vintage Club 30 watt amp for comparison, but the Marshall is the amp to use it with,I have yet to dime it(the anmp) with this pedal, and only used the lead channel, not bridging the channels. With George's mods, the HW's treble channel is quite sufficient by itself, and that is a huge improvement over a lot of 'real' Plexi's.
I know that the pedal will absolutely kill, with the Marshall crankeed,so that is a given. This is not a distortion pedal, but an overdrive pedal, designed to boost sustain, and the input of your amp.
And thanks to Mike at Analogman,it replicates the famous grey DOD 250,which I have never played,by the way, being much too young LOL!!
I think I will have to play with the modes of the Boss NS-2,to be fair,as on reduction,it is too abrupt. This pedal rules dude,to use the modern vernacular, which I try not to do being olde school,as I am.

I'm sure that it is 100% reliable now,and I know that Mike stands by his work.I think I will buy a DD-6,just to get his mod for that pedal too!
Since I don't gig, that is not an issue for me.

I sent my pedal, almost right away it seemed that Mike called me,asking what color LED did I want?
That totally impressed me,and I knew that he would do a great job,no worries. He sent me the pedal back Priority Mail, and everything was so quick and professional, thank God there are guys like Analogman still around.
I will be a longtime customer of his based on his intelligently written website, the ingenuity of his modifications, his honesty, and the superb quality of his workmanship.
Seriously,I highly recommend Analogman to anyone serious about effects, and the use of high quality modifications.

I play mostly bluesy rockish type self taught things, attempted to play harmonic minor, ect, and am still getting to 'grips',pardon the pun, with the scalloped fingerboard of my Malmsteen guitar!!
I have been playing since I was 15 years old,am 52 years old now,you do the math!
If it was lost or stolen,I would buy pedals strictly from Mike,as he deserves your support, and is not as pretentious as Fulltone,et al.
Also the cool Analogman gold logo on the front of my pedal, matches the color scheme of the pedal extremely well, and the 'emerald' green led is totally cool! His total mod package, with shipping included, was $85,great value!'
People that know me,know that I am extremely loyal to those, whom do a professional job,as I know the dedication it requires to be that way.

tele custom(s) > zvex SHO > modded vox wah > analogman dynaross > DOD 250 mojo > AMP (mesa nomad 55) > Loop > small clone > cusack TOW > Boss DD5
The 250 is to me the 'anti tube screamer'. a wide range overdrive that can do everything from crunch chords, subtle blues, to screaming leads and even metal riffs, without losing bass response. I know i'll probably one day see the light and use my screamer clones more, but as of yet, the mojo rules the board in terms of my go-to dirty booster.
I had the true bypass switch put in w/ LED. It's dead silent, and you can use the entire range of sweep on the knobs to get different sounds, all of them usable. The main thing for me about the pedal is the transparency compared to other ODs. the full frequency spectrum of the guitar tone comes through. It adds balls and bite to the original tone, but doesnt overwhelm it or narrow it. It's not nearly as transparent as say a Menatone Red Snapper, which is possibly the most silky and smooth lower gain OD i've ever used, but it's close enough. Past 12:00 on the gain, you go from snapper territory to big nasty. The dirt around 3PM is the ideal gain for leads, but i generally set it 1-2 PM and use it as a transition gain stage between clean and really dirty on the second channel of my amp. It works great both by itself, as well as overdriving a slightly dirty channel.
complaints? The LED has been farting out on occasion recently, but i talked to mike about it and he offered to fix. I'm probably going to wait until it craps out completely (if at all) before sending out because it's just too important in my setup. Other than that, it's built like a brick, and does exactly what i need. Great GREAT deal for buying a used 250 on ebay and having mike put the special sauce in it.
pedal gets a 9 only because i have never heard a 10. Perhaps the King of Tone pedal might be worth trying first.

solid as a rock, though i do bring a backup 250 (non modded) to gigs in case the AM mod craps out. As mentioned, the LED has been flakey recently. No noticable sound issues though.

Mike is great. He's best when you are brief and to the point, as he's a busy guy, but he's as helpful as anyone could be in this kind of business. I have had him do 4 mods for me now and he's been quick, professional, and courteous.

playing ~20yrs. I play everything but metal really - and even that from time to time (i recently filled in for a guy in an 80s band and had to play Ratt, Poison, Journey, Billy Idol, etc. and my rig could pull off those tones)
The pedal is best for people who already like the sound of their guitar, and want to make it bigger a la David Banner getting angry. the 250 mod takes your existing tone and makes it BIG and MEAN, but still tight tracking and controlled bass. I went through about 10 OD pedals before this guy became my go-to choice - including fulltone, menatone, barber, keely. Also RAT, SD-1, ts808 etc... I personally dig the fuller body the 250 gives the teles, which can thin out sometimes. It's gigged out with me for 6 months, about 15 performances, and it's been a great tool. I love this thing and hope to continue using it for years to come. 9 only because 10 is something elusive and yet to be discovered.

The is honestly a 10. I have owned an original 1981 yellow DOD250 overdrive and this one is much better in terms of tone and clarity. I've also tried the YJM308 (don't even bother).
IF you are searching for an Yngwie Malmsteen sound, this is it. Of course you need a fair amount of your distortion/overdrive to come from the amp. Then throw in this little pedal with gain only half or 3/4 and you're there! The tone is amazing and on those bassier notes it has a silky smooth overdrive. My original DOD250 would just clip and cutout on the same notes. Not to mention my original DOD really colored my tone and completely ruined the characteristics of my ture signal.
Also true to the original is its noise level. This pedal dit fairly noisy. My theory: you can't hear it when you're playing, and when you're not playing, turn your volume down! Problem solved.
In conclusion, this is without a doubt as good or better than the grey DOD250 pedals going for $300 on eBay. Why? Because it meets teh exact specs of those pedals using new materials. This gives the guitar a very smooth overdrive whether you want to have the Yngwie sound or not.

I purchased a new re-issue DOD250 pedal through AnalogMan and of course its construction is very sound. It's a metal box! I mean what can you do to a metal box? His mod also includes an LED that was well-done. Looks stock.

I have been playing for about 23 years and as a former owner of an original DOD250 Overdrive/Preamp, I can honestly say this is better. Maybe there was something wrong with the one I owned, but it was muddy, it broke up on lower notes, and totally colored my tone in an adverse way. This pedal sounds great all over the neck. It has great response on higher notes play faster passages or gives a nice crunch/growl to chords and lower notes.
I play a Warmoth strat/Floyd Rose/Dimarzio HS3 in the neck/Dimarzio Tone Zone in the Bridge through either a Marshall JCM800 or Carvin Legacy using a Mesa cab with Vintage 30s.
If you are looking for an Yngwie sound, this mod of a re-issue DOD250 will get you there. If you just want a smooth overdrive to compliment your tone, this is also great to play blues on a clean amp setting. This is not a high-gain pedal. I use it in front of a semi-dirty setting on my amps mainly for the tone it gives, so don't expect this thing to give you a very heavy sound. This is more about tone and sustain than pure distortion.

The customer support has greatly improved from the last time I dealt with them. In the past, it was mixed. He got a little testy with my concerns.I called and they told me he was busy and hung up on me. Overall, though he kept his word. This time however, I shipped the unit for the mod on a Saturday, and received it the very next FRIDAY! ONLY 6 DAYS LATER! Incredible speed! I almost wondered if they even had time to do the mod! EXCELLENT! They should get an 11 for that!

Overall, that was the fastest service, and as far as I know, he is the only one I know of who is currently taking a DOD 250 reissue and turn it into a $300+ sounding pedal! The experience I had really changed how I felt about doing business with Analog Man!
