One knob, although you have to open it up to adjust the level of compression.

Sound Quality : 9
This is the 1st compressor I've ever owned, although I've been playing for about 17yrs. I've never liked the way compressors tend to kill your tone, although I've always been aware of the potential benefits they bring. I was attracted to this as it was described as a deviation from the usual compression tone. It leaves some frequencies untouched, retains brightness, definitely wouldn't say it kills my tone, although it definitely tightens up the sound of my strat. Playing my strat at a high volume, I wouldn't wanna be without this. I have have a Musicman Sub guitar - I tend not to use the Juicer with this, as it doesn't bring many obvious benefits (it's quite a bassy sounding guitar).

I'm playing in a funk band now, and this is essential. I can't compare to the other high quality compressors on the market such as (the dynacomp) as I've never owned any others, but I can't complain about this. Plus it's kind of original (especially in UK, you don't see these around), definitely the coolest looking pedal in my rig.

Reliability : 10
Looks solid.

Customer Support : 5
Quick email comms and quick delivery to UK.

However, when I first placed the order, I ordered a power supply to be delivered with pedal. A day later I changed my mind and emailed Mike to say don't send it and refund me the $15. But he recommended I keep the power supply because of the pedal's incompatiblity with other power supplies - so I agreed.

When the pedal arrived with power supply, I realised I had overlooked the order form tickbox where you request a powerjack input to be installed on the pedal. So obviously there is no way of plugging the power supply into the pedal - it runs on batteries only. He must have known he was sending me an essentially useless power supply but he never thought to raise this me.

I didn't even touch the internal bias. It was more a case of calibrating my playing to the amount of compression.

Sound Quality : 10
This is a very interesting pedal. None of the swell you get with the Boss CS pedals. It's more subtle than that. It also fattens up the tone quite a bit but in a very pleasant way. Used with a Strat with low output single coils (Bare Knuckle Apaches) and just a bit of gain on my Fender Blues deluxe reissue, it opened a totally new tone and style of playing. I normally rely on picking hard and almost popping the strings to get the tone I want with mild gain but with the OS, you can pick more gently, make the OS do the work for you and get some glorious clean fat sustaining notes. Likewise with rhythm work, your playing becomes more even. You start to strum less hard and just let the strings reverberate, knowing the OS will keep the volume up for you. The real magic is the way it does this without the swell of some other compressions. That almost borders on sheer magic and alchemy to me. It's not something I'd use all the time, but it has opened the door to another way of playing, another feel to how to play. I love it. I also tried it with a Digitech Bad Monkey and my PRS. This could get you to the edge of feedback and was good fun, but not really my thing. For the Strat though, it's a perfect match.

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it a short time but feels well made. Slight pop sometimes on switching but not intrusive. Very quiet unless you crank the gain up. No probs with the optional 9v socket being used. (some say it hums with this in use)

Customer Support : 9
Good e-mail comms and fast delivery from the Analogman in the US.

Overall Rating : 10
Have really enjoyed exploring the possibilities with this pedal. For something that seemingly does so little, it has actually made a profound difference to my clean and lower gain rhythm and solo work. Would buy again immediately if lost. I'm on the waiting list for a Bi-comp but I'm not sure I need it now.

Opening the back w/ screwdriver to adjust bias pot is very easy. Turned bias pot nearly full counter-clockwise for bright compressed tone: going for shimmering golden rock notes / chords w/overtones - i.e. when amp is turned up and my Tele w/ EMG85s (active pickups) vol and vol is barely on vol 2 to 3. Once done it's good to go w/o any more adj.

Note: playing at a club with Fender Twin amp - loud / clean amp and the above Fenter tele w/ EMG 85s. Sound can be dark on neck pickup that I like to use (rock / blues / chords played as double-stops).

Sound Quality : 10
Fender Tele w/EMG 85s / Sunlion / Juicer / Amp.

Juicer can be noisy if placed first in chain. Playing 60's covers w/ funk blues rock edge. Great sound when amp is up / vol on gtr is low (active pickups.

SunLion
Boost = 10 AM
Vol = 2 PM
Fuzz = 1 pm
Bias = 11AM

Juicer (internal bias turned nearly full clockwise)
9 am

Reliability : 10
Yes. Quality is excellent.

Mike answers emails. Says it all.

Overall Rating : 10
Play rock w/blues edge. Rhythm guitar / arpeggiating chords. Occasional blues pentatonic riffs / solos.
Need rockedge open sound w/shimmer + crunch.

Does the job A+.

simple as can be ??? one volume and one bias. The only thing that???s a slight nuisance, is that you have to remove the back plate to get to the bias. That makes it almost impossible to change settings during a gig ??? something that would add to the versatility of the pedal. On the other hand, the set and forget aspect make it extremely easy to use, and it does that one thing you set it to do extremely well. There's an awful lot of volume on tap - great if you want to use it as a boost, which I dont. Unity gain obviously depends on how you set the bias, on mine, it's with the volume around 9 o'clock.
I wish it had a battery hatch, so I wouldn't have to remove the base plate to change it.
The Bias and battery things make it a bit less easy to use on the fly than I'd like, but if you have time to tweak, it's self explanatory.

Sound Quality : 9
As good as any I've tried. It fattens the sound somewhat, and in a sense that is hard to put into words, it seems to bring out more nuances in the sound. I like the way it colours the sound, but I doubt it's for those that seek the ultimate in transparency.

I set the bias on mine for a bit more squeeze than what it came with from AM. because of the colouration I find it more useful as a solo boost/sustainer than as something I'd keep on at all times. It performs equally well with my strats and 335 style semis, adding sustain and dimension to lead sounds. I really love the smoothness it adds to my Bassman's grittier sounds.

Reliability : No Opinion
Had it about a year - gigged with it a good bit. never a problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with the company besides ordering from them. the purchase went smoothly enough.

Overall Rating : 9
Very very good sounding pedal - it's a tone enhancer as much as a compressor. I would certainly get it again if this one was lost or stolen. Been playing for 20 years and have had quite a few compression pedals. This one does it's own thing: I haven't tried an original Dan Armstrong to compare with, but none of the ones I've had (Boss CS3, Marshall Ed, Dyna Comp, Carl Martin) sound as good as the Juicer when used as sustainers/lead boosts. They have other fortes though that the Juicer can't compete with, e.g. the transparency of the CM.
I suppose that it's a lot more versatile than my use of it allow for IF you have the time to tweak the Bias between songs. I don't. As it is, i've gotten a pedal that does one thing extremely well, and that's fine by me.

It should be easier than it is!
1 knob & one trim pot.

Sound Quality : 2
The design of the pedal is great, but that's where it ends.
I've been in search of a good compressor for years.
I have tried most compressors & due to the great reviews on this site,
I pulled the trigger & bought a Juicer direct from AM.
I play thru a TopHat Super Deluxe with an SG Jr & SG Standard.
2 of the easiest guitars in the world to dial in.
I know what compressors do & how they are supposed to operate.
Here's my problems with this pedal.
1. There's far too much volume on tap.
2. You can not adjust the volume to get the proper compression.
without being about 10 to 20 db louder than your amp settings.
3. When you adjust the trim pot to bring the volume down
for more compression your low notes sound like poop!
4. For High register solo's this pedal rules. (not a problem)
5. If you have any amount of overdrive on your amp this pedal
is useless.
I have more issues I with this pedal & I'm sure you get the picture.

It does have moments of good tone, but nothing consistent.

I had an old school DOD compressor that was more useable than this pedal.

Reliability : 10
AM pedals will last forever.

Customer Support : 1
When you pay $185 for a pedal there should be some kind of
return policy. I get the feeling that Mike & others at AM
don't like to take returns. In fact they go out of their way
to make it difficult.

Overall Rating : 2
I have no issues with the quality of products at Analogman.
I still think that the Beano Boost is the Best Treble Boost ever made.
That being said when it's apparent that a customer is not at all satisfied you should try & work with that person.
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years & 25 of that as a pro type musician. Recording, Touring & all the other band dealings.
I think that this pedal is still being produced because of the other quality pedals that AM puts out. Every pedal can't be a gem.
This one is a complete turd.
I would never buy one again, in fact I would never pay $10 for one.
As it is I took a $70 hit on this selling this pedal on Ebay.
It was worth the hit just to get rid of it.

Maybe I got a bad one? I doubt it!

One volume knob. Pretty simple.

Sound Quality : 9
This is a very nice pedal. I use this pedal exclusively for playing lap steel slide on my Asher steel. It has a nice gritty tone. It is kind of hard to decribe, but it does fatten the sound and boosts things. I have noticed that at high volumes it can hiss and this hiss is increased when used with other pedals. However, it is the perfect compressor for slide guitar. It adds something to the sound that is soulsy and bluesy. It is hard to describe, but it just works. I tried this one and the Keeley compressor. The Keeley was pretty perfect, but this was better for my slide work and so I kept this one.

Reliability : 10
Mike's pedal are very well put together. I can't imagine needing a back-up.

Mike is very good at communicating. He emails almost immediately unless he is at NAMM or something. I am sure he would stand-by this pedal if there was a fault with it.

Overall Rating : 9
I have now reviewed two pedals - this and the Deluxe Memory Man. I own the Deluxe Memory Man, the Analog.Man Mini Bi-Chorus, the Xotic AC Booster, and now a Sole-Mate Reverb pedal. I have had too many pedals to count, but recent pedals that I have liked but have sold or traded have been the Wizard Wah, the Analog.Man Fuzz Face, and the Zvex Lo-Fi Loop Junky. I have been playing lap steel and octave mandolin almost exclusively lately. I play mostly in church or for myself. Although I have been in bands now and again. I have played drums for thirty years and have only picked up these stringed instruments in the last decade or so. Anyway, this pedal ranks up there as one of my all time favorites. I like the cool orange color, the ability to add that special indescribable something to my slide tone, and the fact that this pedal is hand man with some of the best components available. It is a keeper.

I've struggled with compressors because I tend to have a heavy hand and consequently, it's been difficult to avoid alot of squash and the loss of dynamics that are common to just about all units. The interior trim pot on the Juicer is critical for me. As set by Analogman, it did NOT suit my style. However, after turning the trim pot quite a bit (clockwise), the pedal has become like icing on cake. It beautifully evens the output, adding punch without wrecking the dynamics when I want them. This is the only trick to the pedal. The exterior knob is simply an output volume knob. This could be used as a booster but I set it just a hair above unity which, with the interior trim pot adjusted to my liking, is 9:00. I'm rating this an 8 only because it's a drag to adjust. Once it's set where you want it, you'll never have to mess with it again.

Sound Quality : 10
I run the Juicer >Prescription Electronics Germ > Boss DM3 delay > Keeley modded Boss TR2 tremolo > Fender 63 stand-alone reverb > Dr. Z Z-28 2x10 combo (w/Airbrake). I don't use the Juicer all the time. Anything close to country music really benefits from it. It's also very handy to goose the Germ pedal with it as well for added sustain, especially for playing slide. Noise is minimal on its own and obviously adds some when combining with OD. I ordered mine with AC jack for power and it does not work well at all w/my Boss power supply & daisy chain (way too much hum). Mike warns about this on his website. I expected the Boss to cooperate better but no luck. Batteries last a long time, so I'm not very dissapointed. You may want to save the extra $15 and order it w/out the power jack or consult Mike about what power supplies will power it w/out hum. The overall sound of the unit as I've adjusted the trim pot is great. I've had other compressors (Dynacomp, Boss CS2 & CS3, and the dreadful WD reissue of the Orange Squeezer) and none come close to the Juicer.

Reliability : 10
I also own the Sunface unit. Never any troubles. Great stuff. Have an extra battery just in case. Also, the LED does not dim as your battery fades. You begin to hear the unit breaking up, especially when hitting the low strings.

Customer Support : 10
Not much to say here that has not already been said. Mike & crew are top-notch. E-mails always answered promptly. The US needs more small businesses that deliver great support and service like Analogman.

Overall Rating : 9
I had thought I'd never get along w/compression aside from that naturally produced by an amp. Always too much squash and detracting more than adding to my sound. The Juicer has made me change my mind. I guess I just like less than many others. But that little bit REALLY makes my rig shine. From reading other postings/reviews on compressors, I don't think I'm unique. This pedal is well worth a try. With the way Analogman's pedals hold their value, you can't go wrong. I'm only giving it a 9 because it's on the pricey side. The good stuff always is.

One knob, season to taste

Sound Quality : 10
You can flat out nail Steve Gaines "Honkey Tonk Night Time Man" lead tone with this box and VH "Finish Whatcha Started"
I'm running this box with a Carvin Bel-Air or a Carvin 3200/w 4-12 Marshall cab, most always with my Strat, along with a little bit o delay from a Boss DD-2. I love the tone. If you are after that poppin' country tone, this box is a must have. It also makes for a nice lead boost on the dirty channel and allows for some nice sustain. Great pedal, period.

Great compressor, my only other compressor experience was the Boss CE-3, not really even in the same zip code as the Juicer. I'm very happy with this compressor and dont mind shelling out top dollar if this is the tone quality I can expect from Analogman. I'd buy from them again.

One knob. C'mon, how difficult is it to use one knob? Turn it until you find the sound you like. Keep it there. Play! Any simpler and it'd have acne, poor diction and be working in a McDonalds drive-through. The wee pot inside is obviously more tricky to get at than th eoutside knob but it's not that tricky now, is it?

Sound Quality : 9

Definitely imparts its own charcater on your sound to my ears. Compared to the Maxon CP101 and the Teese FK-1, it has a bit more bottom end and middle, it brings the sound up a bit. Now some people like that, other people don't. I admit that I prefer a compressor that doesn't colour the sound unless I 'command' it to do so, I like to have full control over my sound, probably because I've spent a lot of time with the compressors on things like the Focusrite channel strips and like having a great deals of hands-on control. The juicer isn't that compressor for me, one knob does limit the control you have over it. I liked using it for rhythm guitar, not so much for more janglesome moments where the CP101 does a good job now. Overall, on applications to where the sound of the Juicer is suited, it scores very highly so I'll pop a 9 by its name.

Reliability : 10
By all accounts, Analogman gear is solid. This has been to Canada and back to the UK, I've had it a couple of years, it's survived flightcases, airline staff, two kittens... no worries here, superbly built.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Never used them, again by all accounts it's excellent. No grade here.

Overall Rating : 9

I'll give this 9 in terms of reviewing it for the job it does and how well it does it. It's a great compressor, I've used this one, the Teese FK-1 and the Maxon CP101 and they all have different qualities. I wouldn't use this as my 'first' compressor, I like something that's tonally neutral like the FK-1 or the CP101. In my rig, I tended to set this up after the CP101 to act as a booster for solos etc rather than the first line of compression. I'm actually selling this pedal on the UK Ebay now, not because it's bad but because I need the money and I need to downsize my rig. Come and see!

Overall: for the right application, it's the right compressor. Not the most flexible compressor ever and it doesn't cover all my needs but it is very, very good at what it does. In the future I intend buying the Analogman Comprossor once I graduate from university and splurge a serious amount of cash on post-degree congratulations... and maybe a Janglebox too as that really does jangle :)

Strat into Mazerati. Adds a bit of noise at higher volume. Sounds very good. Works well with other pedals, mostly. The Beano and it make more noise together than I like to hear. Two seperate types of boosts anyway. Great with chorus and overdrive(turn juicer on for solos) great with clean amp.

Rock. Good pedal for me. Makes playing eaiser. Sound dynamics are squished into a great juicy tone. Had the Barber Tone Press, it sucks out your tone and adds noise. TP has a great blend knob. The juicer is just "set it and forget it" . The juicer is a better booster, more volume range and it adds some grit after 12:00. It helps me make music when I need a change in tone or need to do something "tricky" or needs some sustain.

This is my first Analogman pedal. I play an EJ Strat thru a Marshall. Mike recomended I put the Juicer first in the signal chain. My signal goes from the Guitar>AMJuicer>Boss MetalZone pedal>BossDelay pedal(forget which)>DigiTechDelay Xseries pedal>V-amp(set clean with Chorus)>Marshall.
Dang, Where do I start? My sound and tone cleaned up instantly. The notes were full and earthy...and very consistant. This is exactly what I've been needing. I play in a contemporary praise band in church every Sunday. All my notes cut through like never before. It actually made me play better. I played harder and took more chances on the fly. I was very encouraged musically by this little miracle.

I've playing for a long time. I've bought many effects pedals. I've never had a pedal affect my sound in such a positive way. I turned it on and I did not turn it off, and I don't plan to. This is not an effect, it is very transparent. It lets you sound the best you can sound...period. If you suck, you'll still suck...just not as much. But if you're a good, smart musician, playing for the song...it will make you sound great. If it were lost or stolen, I'd order another one the very next day.

Super easy to use. One knob! One LED! One switch! You get the idea!

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal clones the original Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer from the 70's. This clone improves on the functionability, sound and reliability of the original idea. It squeezes and enhances in a beautiful and soulful way. I use it with a dirty tone so I generally kick it on for a solo here and there. It works great after a dirt pedal like a tube screamer. With both of these pedals set at moderate settings, the tone is smooth and sweet. Very expressive and responsive to your playing dynamics.

As with all of Analogman's pedals, this thing is built like a tank and has proven very reliable. No issues whatsover.

Mike's whole repuation is built on quality of sound and care for the customer. I can't say enough good things about him. I currently own 9 pedals that Mike has built or done something to improve the tone and functionability. He's top notch all the way around. No joke!

One knob = lots of great sounds

Sound Quality : 10
Well, I've owned this pedal for over a year and promised Mike I'd write a reivew, but just never seemed to get around to it. But I always felt guilty because it is such an awesome box, I felt I owed it to fellow guitarists out there to clue them in and I also wanted to do this as a way to thank Mike for a suberb job of cloning the DAOS! (see below).

1) This is it -- this is the sound! That is of course, if you're into the DAOS sound (Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer) and SoS (Sultans of Swing). 2) But it also is great for country twangin' and riffin' too! When we do songs that require me to throw in some pedal-steel licks, I put the Strat PU selector in the 'tween positon and turn up the Juicer and yahoo! 3) I have five electrics that I rotate/shuffle depending on the song list and I just recently plugged in the SG, and what a surprise. The Juicer takes those humbuckers and pushes them just to the edge of breakin' up with a beautiful, wet, and harmoncially accented, subtle overdrive. Kind of hard to describe, but think of power tubes in that delicate state that's somewhere between clean and just starting to get dirty -- saawwwweeeeeet! This was an added treat that I wasn't expecting out of this box -- this is something completely different than the SoS type sounds it will give you with single coils.

Reliability : 10
It's handmade AnalogMan -- of course!

Customer Support : 10
Everybody "likes Mike" 'cause he really does stand behind his products and is very responsive -- the best!

Overall Rating : 10
Okay, here's the rub. I use this pedal alot; truthfully, I use it too much. I play twice a week in a P&W band (pop/rock/country genres of songs) and this pedal stays on 95% of the time. Not only does it have just a very sweet sound (a delicate balance of just the right amounts of compression, attack/decay, clean tone/volume boost), but you can use it as a volume/solo pedal (it has a MXR styled knob, but it doesn't come with the rubber sleeve for foot use, so I took one off of my DynaComp and put it on so I can change the setting on the fly - [Mike, throw in a rubber foot sleeve for the knob or at least offer them for an extra buck or something], and with non-single coils, it takes on a mild over-drive effect.

But it is so much a part of my sound now, I'm actually getting scared that my ability to control my own dynamics or wrench my own tone out of the guitar may be getting lazy. What I'm trying to say here, is that once you turn this pedal on, it's very, very hard to turn it off -- it has nothing but good things to add to your tone/playing. I feel like an addict (I'm on the "Juice" again ;~) So, I purposely force myself to turn it off on a couple of songs so that I remember what it's like to have to work for good tone and dynamics.

I used to use a MXR DynaComp, but it sucked out so much of the tone and the compression was just too heavy -- but the Juicer has just the right amount of compression so as to not kill all your dynamics and it brings out all of your guitar's natural tone and cleanly beefs it up as a full serving to your amp -- your amp then has a better signal to work with, and with a good amp, you can hear the full spectrum of tones your guitar is really capable of.

I would like to point out that if you are looking for a direct replacement for a clean sustainer like a DynaComp, this pedal will not give you that kind of sustain nor is it designed to. This is really a clone of the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer -- I think of it as half compressor/half aural-tone boost (again, think Dire Straits and some country chicken pickin') Mike offers other compressor boxes that will give you lots of clean sustain, so check those out.

Yes, I'm biased because, to me, this pedal gives my guitars/amps the sweet tones that I associate with good electric guitar/amp tone. This pedal, along with a Tube Screamer(Mike's KWS edition), Vox Wah, and Sweet Sound Deja Vibe are all I use now -- I rate this pedal as a classic and would say if you only buy one of Mike's pedals, this is it. Yes, it may be pricey, but to me, the tone and pleasure it gives every night we play has been worth every penny. If for some reason the pedal does not appeal to you, you can always get like 95% of your money back by selling it on e-Bay, they go like hot-cakes there.

Mike, thanks for creating this and so accurately cloning Dan's OS and putting it in a more usable package -- this is a masterpiece!

Peace, love and classic tones!

If you didn't know already, the Juicer is a clone of the legendary Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer. At first sight, the Juicer scores points against the original O.S. purely for the fact that it is a proper pedal, whereas the Squeezer was basically a small box with no external controls that plugged directly into your amp.

The Juicer features one external knob that controls the volume, and on the inside is a small bias trim pot that sets the level of the compression effect. I haven't been game enough to fiddle with that yet, as it involves a slightly more complicated process and sounds great right out of the box anyway. However, there are simple instructions in the included manual that cover this adjustment.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this pedal with a stock 2001 MIM Stratocaster. I've never actually played through an original Squeezer, but this sure as hell nails the sound from where I've heard them used. What you get is best described as a squishy, fluid tone with some subtle grit. It's a compressor, so the sound levels become fuller and more even. When I turned it off, I missed it right away. It just adds an awesome, albeit subtle quality to my tone.

Soundwise, the Juicer might as well be a vintage Orange Squeezer, so if you're curious to hear some great demonstrations of a clean strat played masterfully through one, listen to practically any early Dire Straits song -- the effect is all over their first two albums (the songs "Lady Writer" and "In the Gallery" particularly spring to mind).

Reliability : 10
Seems to be of sturdy construction and the insides are neatly built with high quality components. Put it this way: unless you plan on subjecting your Juicer to brutal violence with heavy objects, it should hold up well.

Customer Support : 10
I don't think anything really needs to be said about Mike that you wouldn't have already heard. He has one of the best reputations in the boutique pedal business, and deservedly so. A nice guy who obviously enjoys his work!

Also, I must compliment him on the speed at which I received my pedal. I ordered it on a Tuesday and it arrived the following Monday. Given the fact that I live in Australia and boutique pedal companies are sometimes reputed to be a little slower, I assumed it was going to take longer than it did.

Overall Rating : 10
This little orange beauty will certainly be a permanent resident in my pedal chain from now on. This is a dead-on accurate reproduction of the vintage Orange Squeezer circuit (unlike the sub-standard official "reissue" from WD Music), and in all honesty, I think you'd be crazy to go looking for the original model instead of this. The Juicer has it beaten, even if only in terms of practicality. I haven't compared it to other OS clones on the market, but frankly I don't see any point. You can't get much better than this.

Highly recommended!

Super easy with just one knob you can do so much. There is a LOT of adjustment in just a quarter turn and that's cool. This one knob wonder is very versatile. True bypass switch that works great.

Sound Quality : 10
I use both single coils and humbuckers and it works Great for both! A lot of compressors don't like humbuckers but that's no problem with the "juicer". Boy this pedal can really sweeten your solo's up and just smooth you out for a more professional sound. I believe it's very transparent in my set up, It doesn't alter your tone at all it just sweetens it up. At the highest settings there is a bit of boost which is great in the solo mode. This pedal also sounds great for single coil guitars and Fender amps. You can get that great country sound if you want!

Reliability : 10
I bought this used a year ago and it was made in 2002 and it works perfectly. A battery in here lasts forever,it seems you can put a LOT of hours on a battery without changing it. Very well made high quality compressor. Throw the Boss compressor AWAY!!!

Customer Support : 10
His customer service is second to none!! No problems with this baby.

I play modern and classic rock but this works great for all styles. Many players have never used a compressor, if you get a chance you should try this one out, it can really help your sound be sweeter and smoother without all kinds of coloration.I have found it most helpfull in bettering my lead sound. I always have it on and I wouldn't play without it.

Only one knob, but ... there's really only a small sweet spot in the sweep of that knob that I could find -- the spot I like is right where the the Juicer begins to boost the signal beyond the level of the input signal. It took a while to figure that out, along with the twiddling of the internal bias pot. I'm not sure if I ended up with that set at the original factory setting or not, but it's where I like it now - I think it's backed off just a smidge from the factory setting.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a couple of set ups nowadays - (1) Telecaster w/Kinman pups thru a Dr. Z Z-28 head and a 1x12" cabinet loaded with a Weber VST Alnico Classic, or (2) Stratocaster w/Kinman pups thru a '69 Super Reverb w/circuit modded to AB763 spec. I use the same pedals/FX with either setup ---> AM Juicer --->Keeley Compressor--->Keeley-modded TS-9 --->Budda Phatman--->Roland GP-8 (for various chorus, delay, & phaser FX, midi-controlled thru Rolls MidiBuddy)--->amps. What I don't like about the Juicer: (1) signal drops when you first kick it on, then picks back up -- it does this really quick, but it's still noticeable; (2) amplifies the inherent line noise so there's noticeable hiss when a note is not being initiated; (3) really grabs the note(s) by the throat as it starts to decay and then squeezes hard -- chords will swell noticeably, as do open notes -- oblique bends can get out of control if played with an overdriven tone; and (4) very small sweet spot. What I like about the Juicer: (1) with the Strat, it just nails that southern-fried clean strat sound ala Ed King; (2) sounds great when used in front of the TS-9 and Phatman - it just plays real well with these two pedals on either guitar -- great "boost" pedal in that regard; (3) with the Tele bridge pup, I get harmonics w/a little bristle on 'em popping out all over -- very sweet and fun!!; and (4) plays very well with the Roland GP-8 mod FX --- enhances those much better (and quieter) than the built-in Roland compressor ever did!

Reliability : 9
It has a heavy-duty feel to it and appears to be well-constructed mechanically and electrically. Nice components, no noticeable corners being cut here. I also use the Keeley compressor, but I'm not sure I'd call it a back up -- the Juicer is really quite a bit different from a classic compressor. I use the two for different reasons, depending on the sounds the song calls for. I've had it for about 4 months now and it's not let me down - time will tell, though. All said, the look, feel, and play of it inspire a lot of confidence as to its reliability.

Customer Support : 10
Very professional and responsive - great e-tailers!!

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for more years than I care to admit, and I think I've pretty much mentioned most of the gear I own (I also have a Guyatone VT-X FLIP Tremolo pedal, Budda Bud-Wah, and an AM-modded Boss DS-1). I'll play just about any style of music, some better than others, but expert at none -- I guess I'm somewhat of a musical "generalist," with my preference being toward anything that has some legit emotional content to it (ha, I say that like I'd know it when I heard it ... oh well). The Juicer: kind of a one-trick pony, and then some. Has lots of unuseable settings of the dial, but the spot that works is very sweet indeed. Once I got it where I liked it, I found it very useful for solo boosts and enhancing single note runs -- but I would never leave it on all the time because of the way the squeeze pronounces on chords and open notes. I've only used it live, so can't really speak to how it records, although I've heard it on one of the previous reviewer's work (Rob Jackson of "The Low Country") -- a CD called "Welcome to The Low Country" (I think that's the name of it; sorry if I got it wrong, Rob, but it's late you see) -- a great piece of pristinely recorded work, by the way -- the Juicer sounded quite nice on Rob's tastefully sparse and plaintive guitar work.

Anyways, if lost, I'd get another -- it's just a lot of fun to play with and is musically inspiring. In my opinion, it's a very professional sounding piece of gear.

Ease of Use : 10
I found the Juicer very easy to use. There is just a volume knob and the inside bias pot which adjusts the overall volume and squashing effect. The more you turn it up the louder it will get. The lower you set it the more squashing effect it will have. It's pretty straight forward as far as usage.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using various guitars but mostly Strats. I put Fender Texas Specials in my 60's reissue and it sounds great. I am using a Fender Twin Reverb and I needed something to give me a little spunk and sustain because my Twin doesn't have a master volume and although the tone is super, it's very clean. The Juicer adds just the right amount of bite. It's relatively quiet unless you use distortion and even then it's not bad. It's quietest if you use a battery rather than the adaptor. No variations in sound that are noticable with the battery compared to the adaptor.

Reliability : 10
Anything from Analogman is great quality. There is a lot of research done on their products and they are selling their stuff to the pros so you know that there is not going to be any cheap construction in any of their products. As with all of the stomp box pedals from Analogman, the jacks and internal components are top shelf so I would feel safe not having a backup although I would like extras in case of theft.

Customer Support : 10
I have never met Analog Mike but anytime I have a question and e-mail him he is very prompt in returning my e-mail and cheerfully answers my questions himself. I don't think you'll find that kind of service any where else on the planet. I haven't had any problems with anything that I've bought from Analogman, but I did send him a pedal to be modified and it came back immediately with the mod and it sounded so much better I was amazed. Not only at the service but at the sound improvement as well.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm playing in a classic rock band and the Juicer is great for that because I can get a bit of a gritty sound for some of the cleaner solos which is a sound that I haven't been able to get with a distortion box. I've been playing for 30 plus years and I own numerous pedals from Analogman and I wish I had them years ago. I would buy all of them again. I like everything about the Juicer because it does everything I wanted it to do. It adds sustain so you can work the notes a little bit longer and it seems to fill everything out and add a sense of texture otherwise absent. I've tried other compressors and for what I was looking for, this one fits the bill hands down as the best I have tried. It makes playing easier because you can get the sounds that you were looking for and that makes me play with an abandon that makes my creativity come to the forefront with more confidence and exuberance.

My set up is: Gibson (LP or 335)- Juicer- Teese Wah- Captain Coconut 2- Boogie IV (or Engl Speedster)- Cele. Greenbacks. This unit is not noisy. Very transparent. You really don't notice it's on until you turn it off! This unit is a lot more "subtle" than other compressors (which is my preference).

Reliability : 10
I have gigged w/ it and it's as solid as can be. All steel box.

I play in a cover band. I like the sound so much, I leave it on almost all the time. If you like your compressor on the subtle side, I'd highly recommend this unit. For me it's the best product I've heard in this category. Having said that, I'd suggest talking w/ Analog Mike about YOUR specific needs before you buy.

I hate giving all "10"'s, so I'll knock a point off since it's not inexpensive (but worth every penny!).

I use various Tele's into a new Fender HotRod Deluxe or a MKII Boogie and Demeter Tremulator and this thing is wonderful !!, it compresses in such a natural, musical way it's "on" all the time. Best of all it doesn't do that cliched compressor 'thing' where the compressor just suck's all the life out of your guitar and amp, i still have total control of the volume pot on the Tele, if i want to back off i can and not lose any tone. The quality of the tone is great because it doesn't seem to add or subtract anything to the tone i'm trying to get out of the guitar.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank, and so am i !!!

Great !!, quick, helpful replies via eMail and when i got to the top of the list it took a matter of day's to reach the UK, it's impossible to get that service here from a company IN the UK.
I've had no real question's since it turned up, it just work's so i can't think of any question's i could ask but i'm sure i would get great service if i did.

Overall Rating : 10
Like other's i've spent a whole career using this or that pedal, the "rack mount" route and everything inbetween but i've never had such instant success with a piece of equipment !!.
I play "Telecaster" type music with all that implies and this thing is the perfect mate for a Tele, because the guitar is still controllable so all your tone is still there but with that slightly smoother edge to it, and that's controllable too !!
I just plug it in and leave it and go back to enjoying the guitar and not fiddling with knob's or preset's wondering where my level just disappeared too when i hit that wonderful sounding +9 chord.
I do share the worry about battery changing though, i'm pretty good at having a spare and knowing roughly when i should change but you dont want to be doing it "in the field", it look's complicated in there.

Only thing I'd add to the previous reviews is that the manual is well written. The only tricky thing is setting the bias trimpot, that's covered well and it's a set it / forget it.

Sound Quality : 10
Most recently, this is the only pedal I'll use, and it's on all the time. I play a '78 tele through either an 80's Tokai ?tweed? amp, a 70's silverface Fender Vibro Champ or a recent model Gibson Goldtone GA-15RV. I play all sorts of stuff, but I always go for a clean full sound. This is a GREAT sounding pedal. Typically, you're looking for transparency from a compressor pedal, but the Juicer has a tonal character of its own that really becomes quite hard to live without. The website describes the sound of the Juicer very well, and I think it's the ?grit? that I really like, although this is still essentially a clean sounding effect. Signal to noise is also very good - much better than the original. As advertised, the effect on dynamics is very much like the natural sag of a tube amp so your pick attack isn't obscured, you don't get that ?gulping? sound, and you're not getting a whole load of increased sustain. There's a lot of gain boost on tap too, so you can use it to push the front end of a tube amp - that works really well with the Goldtone, a non-master class A amp.

I also had a fiddle with the internal bias, then pretty much went back to the marked factory setting as it sounded best left there. I would give sound quality a 9/10 as I like the fact it's *not* pristine, but I give a 10 because it sounds great to me.

Reliability : 9
It seems very well built and the circuitry inside looks super neat. I do have a slight concern about battery changes as the baseplate doesn't come off completely because of the circuit layout being attached to both parts of the casing. You've just got to be really careful when opening the thing up, not something I'd like to attempt mid-gig on a dark stage. A nice touch is an Analog Man cloth bag, so hopefully that will help keep this attractive orange pedal ding-free.

Customer Support : 10
I'm sure most people are aware of the long waiting lists and I think it took about 3 months for me to get to the top. However, as soon as I'd placed my order, the pedal arrived in the UK five days later! That's the quickest turnaround from the US I've ever had for sure. As others have noted, Mike is very fast responding to emails and has an air of genuine enthusiasm for what he does. I got a really friendly email saying he was pleased to hear the pedal worked out well for me.

Overall Rating : 10
If you're looking to add some soulful bite and character to your clean sound, without introducing overdrive pedals, and you want to smooth the dynamics out a bit, without the increased sustain of a typical compressor, then I've yet to hear anything better at doing this than the Juicer. I own a lot of effects, including several new and old compressors and this is currently the only pedal that's making its way into my gig bag. Nuff said?

Just one knob - volume. A no-brainer.

Fender American Strat -> Juicer -> VoxAC30. I mainly play 80's rock, with a heavy bias towards U2. Capturing the Edge's chimey signature sound in the 80's is a difficult task, but this pedal helps tremendously. Keep the volume knob left of 12 o'clock and you have smooth, clear compression. 12 and higher, you get a little grit in your sound, just right to make it sound Edgey.

Reliability : 10
I've also gotten a mod for my BOSS SD-1 and so far neither pedals have any any problems whatsoever. They're both built like tanks.

How easy can you get? You switch it on (you don't want to switch it off). I haven't touched the internal pot, as it seems to be working best as it is. The volume knob stays for me at about 1 o'clock. Simple as that.

My setup is: guitar (Jap 60's Strat with Fralin Vintage Hot, US Fat Tele with Fralin HO, PRS Custom 22) -> Crybaby -> Analogman Juicer -> Fulldrive 2 -> Boss TR2 -> Ibanez AD80 -> Boss CE2 -> EH Holy Grail into either Bassman RI or my Tweed Deluxe replica depending on the gig. The Juicer really rules, I have it on all the time. As said here earlier, it is a cross between a compressor, a boost and some nice grit. The Juicer makes your FD2 really shine. You notice how good the Juicer is when you switch it off. My Boss TR2 tremolo will be changed to Voodoo Lab very soon.

This pedal is a breeze to work. 1 knob that is very useful. Also, 1 knob(mini) inside to do further adjustment. Once, I dialed that in, I was off to the races. The outer knob is also really easy to adjust on the fly with your foot at a gig if needed. Very Cool.

Sound Quality : 10
I use the Juicer between my guitar and amp setup. It is perfect for clean boost or slight crunch in my clean chan. or some extra gain in my lead chan. I use a Bogner XTC Classic or a Two Rock Custom. I use a PCM70 in the loop. I have a plethra of cabs that I use for diff. applications. My main guitars are Tyler Strats and Baker chambered guitars. The only other EFX that I use are Analogman's Clone Chorus. The way that I have my Juicer set up is perfect for my rig. I would describe it as a cross between a compressor, a boost, and a TS808. It can also be set up just as a compressor or boost only.

The thing is built like a tank. It's a thing of beauty. I have never had a single problem. In addition, it is quiet and the switches work perfectly.

The "Juicer" (aka Squeezer) is a Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer compressor clone. It has one knob - volume. There is an internal trim pot for the amount of "squashing", Mike pre-sets it at a level to match the original Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer.

Those familiar with the original Armstrong units (most of which were sold by Mutron) know about the difficulty to use them, they attached with a right angle plug at the input jack of your guitar. This meant if you played a Strat, you basically could not use it. Also, both the volume and the squash controls were internal. What Mike has done, similar to the Clone Clone Chorus and the Ross Compressor Clone ("Comprosser"), is re-package the Orange Squeezer into an MXR Dist+ sized stompbox, add true bypass, a Boss style DC jack, and high quality components.

I monkeyed around with the internal trimmer to see if I liked more or less squash, but I eventually went back to the original setting because it sounds best there.

This unit differs from the reissue currently offered by WD Products in design and sign quality, in that the Juicer is a VAST improvement.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal NAILS the original Armstrong Orange Squeezer PERFECTLY. The original was used by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits on "Sultans of Swing", and Jeff Baxter of Steely Dan on "My Old School". The OS adds a subtle squash to your tone, is very transparent and natural, and introduces just a teeny bit of drive and harmonic content into the signal. Because of the superior quality of the components used in Mike's design, the Juicer is quieter and sounds BETTER than the original.

This unit will do an exceptional job with a clean amp, giving that pristine, bell like chime that Knopfler was known for. Also, it is THE BEST booster used with an overdriven tube amp...forget the Klon, I've A/Bd the two and it was NO CONTEST - The Juicer KILLS. It will also drive another pedal very well - the Juicer can turn a TS9/808 or similar clone, or a Fuzz (I've used it with the Everman Fuzz Drive) into a snarling beast!

Of course, the unit runs $165, but if you want top quality gear, you have to pay for it. It's worth every penny.

Reliability : 10
Seems to be built very well. Mike is known for "over-design" on his other pedals, I have a Clone Clone that I have been using for several years. This pedal should last for a long time!

Customer Support : 10
I've been dealing with Mike since 1997, he is as straight and honest a shooter that I have ever dealt with. His great reputation is well deserved.

Overall Rating : 10
Rating a pedal 10 across the board is common place here on HC, but I have owned dozens and dozens of pedals and the Juicer is truly deserving. Compressors? Boss CS-2, CS-3, Maxon CP-101 (nice pedal!), Guyatone ST-2, MXR Dyna Comp.

This is the best of the lot. I picked it over the Ross Compressor Clone because I prefer not to have the note swell that the Ross is known for, plus, the fact that the Juicer was a Clone of the most recorded (for guitar solos, anyway) compressor pedal in history.

Highly recommended!
