Amps: 1955 Tweed Deluxe & 1964 Ampeg Reverberocket + Gibson 335, Strat & Tele.
Not noisy, very smooth and bell-like overdrive. Makes me sound better than I am. I am using it with an Analog Man mini Bi-comp and it sounds fantastic.

I play all sorts and the pedal is versatile enough to go with that. I have used literally dozens of overdrives since I started playing in the mid 1960's. This one is the best. I am so impressed I am on the waiting list for one of Mike's Kings of Tone dual overdrive units. Mike is obviously a perfectionist and it shows in the thought and care he takes with his products.

It's pretty easy to get a good sound of it. Don't have to do much tweaking to get a sound you will probably want. Pretty simple: Volume, Gain, and Tone controls.

Fender Deluxe Fat Strat> Maxon OD-9/Silver Mod/Blues Junior NOS or Bad Cat Black Cat. Analog Man's silver mod definitely improves the low end loss, and cuts more midrange. It is easily the most transparent Tubescreamer I've played through. Although it does do this it still does not fix the problem, it just improves it. There is still all the noticeable quirks with tubescreamers: low end loss, some midrange (but not enough to make it bad), and definitely nasaliness. That is probably the most noticeable thing about it. The high end didn't sound too good either. It was somewhat muddy. It gets noisy on higher gain setting like all tubescreamers, but it's not unbearable.

I play blues, jazz, rock, chickin pickin, and fusion. It works well for blues and rock. Honestly, there is so much hype around this kind of thing nowadays. People are so biased because of what they read or by what they hear online. I don't believe anything until I hear it with my own ears in person. Although I liked the overall sound of this pedal, it just didn't do it for me. It improved on some of the tubescreamer downfalls (low end loss, midrange hump) but it did not fix them. In my opinion all you really need is a good guitar and a great amp. I still have yet to try the Mojo Drive, Landgraff, and Klon, but I just think people's opinions are so biased on these pedals because of what other people say or ratings on Harmony Central.

I have a Fender 65 Twin Re-issue, and an Amercian Strat. The Analogman OD 9 Silver Mod is my only pedal, I hate to clutter the guitar sound with too many effects. This pedal is clean and smooth, not too noisy especially compared to other overdrive pedals.
As with all tube screamers, you do loose a bit of low end, so I wouldn't recommend this pedal for someone with a small amp.
To compare the sound to other artists is difficult, but I would say on low gain I can get similar sounds as Hendrix's recordings of "Hey Joe" or "Wind Cryes Mary", and on high gain you get more of a ZZTop type distortion.

If this pedal was stollen I would buy another one immidiatly.
Excellent pedal, clean, smooth. Together with my Strat and my Twin amp, I get the sound I was looking for. I highly recommend this pedal and Analogman.

My review depends about the tone I'm looking for... My ears loves the sound of the original 808 (the vintage one), I owned one and it was amazing(adds color to the guitar but very musical)... after that I purchased a ts9 brown mode... the best pedal in my life(very, very similar to the original 808 tone), I used to play jazz-rock music, now I'm more on roots rock and blues music and guitar tone.
The od9 silver mod it's an extremely clean overdrive in terms of pure guitar sound(it doesn't add color to your tone)... to my ears it's not a rock pedal or kickin' ass blues pedal... it's quiet, it doesn't roar... something is missing...but it sounds very good, nice sustain, very good in harmonic balance... no srv tones, period... the ts9 brown mod do that, this pedal it's another beast.
Just hear the samples on www.analogman.com used by Scott Henderson in some of his tracks.

I've been playing for more than 15 years, I'm a pro guitar player and instructor... I love good guitar tone and I have owned a lot, I mean,a lot of equipments, guitars, pedals... this pedal sounds very good but it's a rare one...don't expect srv, hendrix etc... they never used a pedal like this...It's too much transparent, I need a more rocker pedal by now, my ts9 brown mode it's my number one.

Real unique..... I have an older TS9 with the AM 808 mod which is also awesome. I run both together to get the different tones from each and with careful tweaking, run them both together. I recommend trying. I use minimal effects, chorus, delay & the two Anologman's.

I use fender amps and fender & gibson guitars. Been playing over 30 years. This pedal takes a little time to get used to because it breathes differently. I almost resold it when I first bought it so I strongly recommend spending some time with. I also think they sound better as they are broken, mine was pretty new when I got it. Not a metal pedal, great for blues rock and country. It real lets the amp sound/tone come through... transparent... I guess thats the word but it just soundes great !

Just got this Silver mod for Analogman after reading great reviews. Let me just say this....the hype is true. I think I finally found the missing link to my sound. Sound quality of pedal is very, very clear. Not noisy. Does not color tone and all, plus the pedal is true bypass when turned off cause it's Maxon. Add's to your setup and doesn't sound like an effect like most pedals out there. I A/B ed this pedal with my other overdrive I use for gigging....Keeley TS9 Plus Mod. No comparison. T9 adds a little compression....Analogman doesn't. When I got the TS9 Plus mod back from Keely, I was pleased cause the stock TS9 has zero bass and sounded paper thin. The Keely mod helped level out the EQ and added more bass and kept the mids in tact. However, next to the Analog Man Silver Mod....it sounds like a toy....more of an added effect that thins out my original sound when I step on it.

Been playing 15 years. Gig 50 times per year. Very picky about tone and pedals in my set up. The OD9 Silver is the real deal. The Keeley TS9 Plus mod is going on Ebay now even though it is a nice upgrade to the stock TS9.....BUT....NO point keeping it now. Thanks again Analog Man.

You can get anything you want from this already True Bypassed Overdrive pedal, compared to my Analogman TS-9/808's I love this pedal, I hate to say it, but just as much. The drive is consistent. The manual is standard, 3 knobs very simple to find your tone.

The sound is crystal clear perfect! I can get any sound from Tom Morello to Trey Anastasio, even Gilmour. It's not just an OD pedal though, the Silver Option gives it a real clear tone, and it's not muddy unless you want it to be. Really amazing tones, strong pedal. I use this with a Fender Twin Amp always on the clean channel.

I play everything from Phish to Tool, Helmet, Rage, you name it I play it, besides Country; never got into that much. I've been playing for 12 years, I own about 5 Analogman Pedals, all mods because stock pedals are great, but I'm looking for something more unique to suite me. If this was stolen I would feel horrible for the person who stole it. I think that the Brown Sound is completely different from the Silver Option, so if you are thinkin' of getting a pedal modified, consider that option first. He does both, it's all about what you are looking for.

I've been through all of them including the Klon, Keeley, Lovepedal, Fulltone, Homebrew, Voodoo Lab, Xotic, Nick Greer, and a ton more. This AM silver is best by far! I mean it is it! No honeymoon, I've had it for some time now. I have quite a few of his pedals and I like them better than any other mod or builder. He has it nailed and has always helped me whenever I had a question. I do prefer the silver over the regular or brown mod. Read his reviews, guys awesome! Oh yeah, this blows the new Maxon OD9 + out of the water as well. When I stepped on it, I could not believe it took me this long to find it. There's no way this pedal can't work for anyone....it gets any sound from a boost to a full blown OD. Wow this pedal is un-real. Yes, it's that good.
TO MIKE: Time for a Analog Delay Man pedal! Please Mike.

I run this pedal in front of a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. I was using a Ts9-Dx ( also Analogman modified ). Fx chain goes : Peterson Strobostomp > Maxon OD-9>Vox Real McCoy> EVH Phase 90> Analogman Chorus > Boss Tr-2( analogman mod) . I have a TC Electronics Vintage Delay in the fx loop. The OD-9 really gives the needed sustain/boost that my setup needs. The Ts-9 Dx was great until I heard the OD-9. The OD-9 really boosts the signal . i Have a Boss SD-1 ( analogman modified), MXR Zakk Wylde OD and the TS9-Dx and the Maxon smokes them all. The MXR ZW gives a little more sustain and is a little hotter but it colors my tone too much. The Maxon is true bypass and does not color my tone.

I originally rec'd a Maxon SD-9 as a gift. I had wanted the OD-9 but hey.....my wife is no musician. Anyway, I emailed Mike and asked if I could pay the difference and get the OD-9 and exchange the SD-9. Mike promptly replied and had me send the Sd-9 back with no questions asked. I have bought multiple pedal from Mike over the years and he has never been anything but helpfull and professional. He has fixed pedals for me, answered my numerous and lengthy emails with great information and given me advice on seveeral Mods. You cannot beat Analogman in the customer service department. Many big time guitarists use his pedals but Mike treats me with great respect and I certainly am not Steve Vai. Thank you Analogman !

I play mostly in cover bands. I have been playing for over 20 years. Iff this pedal was lost or stolen I would order another one ( unless my name comes up for the King of Tone pedal and I could get my hands on that !). The Maxon is true bypass and really adds a much fuller boost than all other overdrive pedal I own. Bottom line : this is the best overall pedal I have found yet. I like the Zakk Wylde pedal also but it colors my clean sound when not in use. If the Zakk Wylde was true bypass I would use it more.

Im using this with a THD FLEXI-50 amp through 2 THD 2x12 cabs. Les Pauls primarily.
I have tried/used/abused the following od pedals; Keeley sd-1, keeley rat, xotic ac booster, voodoo lab sparkle drive, roddenberg (i think thats how it is spelt), keeley BD-2, ulbrick 12axe, keeley fuzz head and finally the analogman od9 silver.
Thats not including the following boosts/ dist pedals; keeley ds1, keeley katana, ulbrick megalodon, MCFX micro boost and xotic rc boost.
I list these because i use them all for the same application - that is to use them to boost an already fairly dirty amp for extra juice usually for solos.
The od9 silver KILLS them all in every way for what i want it to do which is to boost the signal without the amp becoming farty but still retaining a punchy low end, and add some midrange to help cut.
And i really mean it kills them all! Some try to add bass boosts, add treble, add eq sections. Out of all of these pedals ive listed the od9 silver really is the only one that has come through.
I do not use this pedal for my dirt, im already happy with the amps dirty sound so i keep the gain on zero and max the gain, the pedal acts more as a boost/tone shaper. It also does a VERY fat meaty sound for power chord rock/metal sounds with a les paul when used this way.
My signal chain goes as such; Axess electronics > Love pedal vibe > od9 silver > analogman chorus > ernie ball volume >amp.
I Love this pedal!

I play rock, pop, blues, jazz fusion. Am a full time player/teacher.
Playing for 18 years (since age 8). I would most certainly buy a new one if this one was stolen or lost.
Ive compared this to a tonne of stuff. My search has ended. I wish i had of found this earlier and saved alot of cash.
Analog mike has also made me a custom relay switching box which works flawlesly and looks sexy as hell (pics on his site). I use it in my big rig that gets dragged out for the bands that are anal about effects.
