This piece is extremely easy to use, in fact, it is more of a set and forget compressor. Set the drive for desired compression level and adjust output. Pretty simple.

It is my personal favorite for taming snare drums live and in obtaining the crack from the attack of the drum. It works really well on guitars with a cleaner/funkier tone to get that in your face sound. The 106 produces a clear even level without obliterating the transients. I have only tried it a couple of times on vocals and if I remember right it was with good result. However, because of the extreme range of tones and dynamics I prefer using my pricier gear on vocals.

In my own opinion, for the price you can't beat this compressor. I prefer this piece over several other high priced compressors that I own in certain applications. If you like to 'sqaush' things down for a desired effect the 106 will do it, or if you just need a "gain rider" this guy will handle the job well.
