Easy to figure out, but hard to get to what you want. The second stage is a a really cool idea, but hard to use because you can not turn the pedal off with the dual stage activated. It just switches between the two flanger effects.

If you turn the feedback on fully, you get a cool self-oscillating sound. It sounds really cool and/or crazy with:
FL-10 --> Tremolo --> Delay
With the FL-10 on full feedback, tremolo at a good speed with the flanger's rate, and the delay on a low feedback with a matching rate.
As for flanger's go, this thing is . . . weird, crappy, and cool.
I really like using the pedal with full feedback for like 1 or 2 bars of a song to make a ..siren.. type sound. Not really a siren, but something weird like that. If you can find this pedal, or any other old aria pedals, at a reasonable price, buy it.

Seems to be built very well. It is at least 20 years old, and well used. I don't know if this is how it sounded like new, but it works for me.

The only other flanger I have used was a Boss BF-2. I sold it once I got this one. The BF-3 is really nice though, but the FL-10 is an instrument on its own. You can turn up the feedback and play with the knobs all night getting cool sounds, or you can just let it self-oscillate and annoy the people upstairs.
