Ease of Use : 10
Very easy. 2 knobs for Lo and process. Although there not, its maby easiest to think of the knobs as bass and treble. What the knobs really do though is re-align the highs and lows....in the best way possible : )

My Rig 88 black strat > Lyric Evidence audio cable > BYOC Triangle > BYOC RAM > Boss CS-2 > Small Stone > Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster > BBE Sonic Stomp > Blues JR

For me, my rig isnt my rig without this thing. You can tweek it to bring out any aspect of your music with just a bit of messin around. Its last in my chain for a reason...

Works well with everything equally : )

Reliability : 10
Little tank. No issues.

never used

For me, I need this thing in my rig like my lungs need air lol I love it and use it everytime I fire up my rig.
I've been playing for 15 years and it took me 13 to find this thing. I'll never play without it again if at all possible.
If it were stolen I'd order another ASAP.
Nothing else does what this does that I've found.
I highly recomend this for anyone going through an amp : D
And did I mention the great price on these little things????? A steal for what it does.

You have to experiment, too much (anything past 12) and it starts
dominating the game.
I keep both knobs right around 10 and that is where this pedal adds a fullness and yet stiii be in the background.

Sound Quality : 10
A fullness to the tone

A blanket taken off the speaker

That seems to be true, my Fender Blues Deluxe seems to perk right up.
No strident digital sound at the modest setting I have. Far from it.
It provides a body to the sound that is gone when bypassed.
Sort of like one speaker on your ipod and then using two, two just sounds fuller. The sonic stomp just makes the sound richer and bigger.

Reliability : 10
No probs

Once I dialed in the Sonic Stomp (that is the last pedal going in the fx loop) I never turn it off. It makes my whole rig sound better so why turn it off.

This is a very subtle pedal that is for player that hear. Some say they don't get it. I have to agree, some people just don't get.

But I get it. I'm liking my tone better than ever.

My tone chain
G&L ASAT > BBE Benwah > Empress ParaEq w/Boost > SPF Greenline od
> Hemida Zendrive2 > Red Witch Pentavocal Tremolo

into Fender Blues Deluxe

In fx loop
Lexicon MPX100 (hall reverb) > BBE Sonic Stomp >> amp

Put the Sonic Stomp in the fx loop in the last position, turn it on, and that will do it.

This is the most simple pedal ever made. All you have to do is put it at the end of your pedals right before the amp and dial in the amount of lows and highs you want. It's like a very simple eq on steroids. From what I've been told it corrects the phase of high and low frequencies so that they hit you at the same time providing clarity.

Sound Quality : 10
It doesn't matter what setup you are using. I've used this pedal in front of solid state amps, tube amps and bass amps. It does wonders for the sound of any amp/guitar combination. It makes virtually no noise at all. This is the only piece of equipment I have reviewed that I will give 10 for in all categories except for customer support because I haven't had to deal withh it.

Reliability : 10
BBE's pedals are built like tanks. This thing will be around long after the fall of western civilization. I do use it without a back-up and if it ever crapped out I would definitely buy another one. As a matter of fact if I could only have one pedal period this would be it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to, but if their service is as good as the quality of this pedal I'm sure there would be no problems.

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal will work for any kind of music as it improves sound clarity and doesn't actually provide some kind of genre specific effect. I could only compare it to an eq, but even in it's simplicity it seems to do more than an eq.

This pedal is basically a "set-it-and-forget-it" device, so its about as easy to use as they come.

Sound Quality : 9
Now, here's the thing for me. I was about to put my Sonic Stomp on eBay, as i really wasn't getting too much out of it. In my regular tube amp setups, it didn't really do much for the live sound overall ... a bit of the high-end was 'boosted' with the "Process" pot, and as i wound the "Low Contour" around, the bass response was boosted to increasing degrees.

I understand what the device is "supposed" to be doing; so, i decided to give it another shot, and used it at the back-end of my digital processor signal, right before i jack into the power amp/speaker. And......VOILA...... THAT'S what this here Sonic Stomp is all 'bout! My sound came alive ... much more fully opened-up. The "blanket off the speaker" thing that so many have likened this to, really happened. In short, a significant enhancement to the clarity and fullness of the sound. The Sonic Stomp has proven itself to me, and has earned a permanent place in my "digital domain".

Reliability : No Opinion
The pedal is built to normal sturdy standards. Plus, since i won't be "stomping" much on it (due to my current use), it should last a good ling while, unless it burns out.

My sonic stomp was pulled from the eBay gallows in the nick of time (see "Sound Quality"), and has been re-born into the world of the sonic living.

If you own this pedal, and are not getting out of it what you want, or think you wanted, try it in another application setting. In my case, going from analog to digital was the key to un-locking the hidden value. This actually makes sense, since the full-blown version of this device (the "Sonic Maximizer") is a rack-mountable unit designed precisely for sound enhancement.

BBE's manufacturing a "stomp pedal" version of their technology appears to be more a marketing ploy than anything else, since putting it at the end of a regular stomp chain, as they suggest, really doesn't do too much in the way of 'sound enhancement', since the player's amp is receiving the signal and pretty much re-coloring everything. (You can try your amp's FX loop, but in my case it wasn't that impressive.)

If you DON'T own this pedal, but are into DSP live or recorded sound, my experience suggests that you'll be most pleased with its use. Plus, the price, even at regular retail, is a bargain over the rack unit, and you don't necessarily need the rack unit's capabilities, unless you play in a FT stereo mode.

Give it a whirl... you'll probably find one on eBay, being sold off by some poor, hapless, unhappy analog tube amp player like me, who almost gave up a sonic diamond in the rough.

Ease of Use : 10
Easy to use-- 2 knobs-- Lo Contour and "Process" which seems to me like a treble control (but I don't think that's exactly what it is).

Sound Quality : 10
I use this with a BC Rich Custom Shop Mockingbird with Seymour Duncans. It is very quiet. I use a small Crate tube amp for my home practice and this pedal really opens up the sound and it sounds much more alive. Full setup is Mockingbird -> BBE the Wah -> Morley George Lynch Dragon Wah -> Boss NS2 -> Danelectro Dan-Echo -> MXR Dynacomp (Monte Allums Mod) -> BBE Freq Boost -> Tech 21 XXL Distortion Pedal -> Jacques Mercer Box 2 -> BBE Sonic Stomp -> Crate 5 Watt Tube Amp.

It sounds amazing with clean tone and with heavily distorted tone-- everything just gets so much more color and liveliness. It is subtle, and yet makes a huge difference and when you turn it off the tone is so much muddier. I don't try to get anyone's sound, I just try to hear what I want to hear and this helps me get closer.

Reliability : 10
It seems really dependable. I love BBE products. I have the Freq Boost and the Wah and they sound amazing, the Wah is better than the Crybabys I've tried and the Freq Boost is the only treble booster I've used, but it works great and is very sturdy.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I just play whatever I feel like, but that has tended to be heavy rock for the last few years. I've been playing on and off for 21 years, focusing heavily on my playing for the last 4 years. I've owned a lot of guitars but not that many now. I would buy it again in a second because it is very unique and IT REALLY WORKS. It is not simply an EQ, though some people have called it that. I bought it because of lots of great reviews and because I love my BBE Freq boost and The Wah and now I really trust this company.

Its not complicated , only two dials.

I tried the sonic stomp in the effects loop of my bass rig (Carvin r1000, Brx 10.2 cab, carvin active 5 string bass) Regardles of setting my rig sounded better without the sonic maximizer. It seemed to thin out my sound, other users report their sound being as if you took the blanket off the amp .My experience has been the opposite. This unit might work well if your playing through absolute junk, but it did nothing for me.

Dont know, it just collects dust.

Lo Contour at left, needs some learning, have to tweak it between sound you want and your speakers well-being; level of Processing the contour on right, usually around mid, contour around 1:00.

It is easy to get a good sound, it all depends on where you put it.

Sound Quality : 10
First time I used one was on a Marshall Slash Jubilee. Les Paul , Marshall, end of story. Plugged it between Gtr and Amp, seemed like a waste of money. Put it in the FX loop, and could not bear the sound of the Marshall without it from that point on.

It brought the Marshall to life, made it easier to suit a room, and when switched off the amps sounded DULL.

Some amps dont have an effects loop, and I cant see the point of the pedal without it, even as a boost substitute. Right before the Power Amp, last part of your preamp situation, is where you want this puppy.

Reliability : No Opinion
As far as I can tell, once it is on, that's all she wrote. Without needing to switch it on/off, that is the only mechanical part. It is otherwise some hardwired electronic macaroni, solid as a bitch.

If it kicks out during a gig, I would get through the show, and get a new one right away.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience.

Overall Rating : 10
Went from a Marshall to a Diezel Einstein, and I really didnt need it for that. Went from the Einsein to a VH4, and again did not have much room for it. Now I am into a Fuchs, and once again it is making a difference, as the Fuchs is Marshallesque.

I would say this: rather than assuming to improve the preamp/amplifier, it rather dials in the head sound for the speaker situation. It tunes the signal to maximize what happens at the speakers. Who can argue with a Marshall Slash? Just a Sonic Stomp.

Very easy. 2 knobs controlling bass and treble and a switch to turn it on and off.

Sound Quality : 8
The sound quality is not too bad. When I first used it, I found I left it on all the time. However, after having it for over a year and a half, I've changed my habits. In live settings, I mostly use it for solos because it offers me a way to cut through the mix without boosting volume overall. In my home studio, I treat it like a simple EQ pedal. I find it offers excellent tweaking options, particularly in bringing out the treble without being harsh. I have it as the last pedal in my chain before the amp, but it also works well in the effects loop. It's dead quiet and has a true by-pass. It won't dramatically alter your sound the way some EQ pedals can, but it does offer a nice flavor to your sound when engaged.

Reliability : 9
I've gigged with it several times over the last year and it's held up just fine. The batter compartment is plastic, so care should be taken when changing the battery. Still, it's metal and the switch is solid. I've never had any problems with it's performance. One time I left it in my trunk and some water got in and soaked the bag that I had it in. After letting it dry out for a day, it worked fine and I've not had any problems in the six months since.

Overall Rating : 8
The Sonic Stomp is a quality pedal for mild EQ on a guitar or bass signal. It changes your tone and opens things up on the treble side without getting harsh. It's well built and functions properly. While it won't radically change your tone and EQ, it does offer enough variability to be a good live tool to cut through the mix. The effect is subtle but good.
