I use this pedal is a fairly uncoventional way due to being a metal player. I use it as part of my sound all of the time so that it boost and enhances my signal. I belive that it does this by boosting note which haven't been played as strongly during sweep picking and reduces the over powerful note during the sweep (I know I should impove my technique which I am always working on however it helps)
Secondaly it boosts pinch harmonics (especialy when played on heavy gaged low strings)
It also makes solos burn!!
Next it reduces some of the over powerful note which come through very chunky palm muted playing.
It prevents me from using loads of pre gain
It also sounds good when clean and warms the signal up preventing twang.
It took me a while to dial in what I wanted here are my settings:
Attack time = 0 (compression kicks in straight away)
Level = 3 O'clock
Compression/Sustain = 10 O'clock
I'm prity sure that attack time on min will kick the compression in straight away can't check right now.
(I place my CL9 at the beginning of my pedals)

Does exactally what I have stated above, however when playing very fast rythem parts with low tuneing some time feels like its dragging due to the sustain. I have used a behringer rack compressor and found it to be good however the CL9 manages to do it a little bit better don't know why but it does.
It is quite noisy however I have played quite a few compressors and the MXR dyna comp was noisier and the CL9 is better what I want the dyna comp sustains more which just muddys up my playing. To reduce moise you can just mute it using a volume pedal don't know what everybody complaisn about the noise and using a good noise gate IEP noise gate works really well and no tone sucking.
I'm sure I could get better sound using a studio comp however for ??20 I would rather use this.

Would recomend this pedal for what I use it for if you want massive sustain use something elce. Its also good for bass unless you want notes to ring and then play higher parts over the top apart from that its great. It would be a 10 however the dragging feeling can be a bit off putting so my hunt still continues however it is definatly worth ??25.
