This is pretty straightforward. You don't need the manual, just listen to how the piece responds to your material.

I used this to de-ess vocals. It was merely okay. I paid very little for it, so I'd say I got what I paid for. There seem to be very few stand alone hardware de-essers out there any more! De-essing vocals on a track required me riding the sensitivity knob, even with a fairly consistent volume and compression on the track. I flew the Behringer in on an aux send of a Roland VS recorder on an already recorded vocal track. I've also used it on insert points of a Mackie 32-8 board "live" before the vocal was recorded.

Sure, but I've only used it a few times. I'd say it's fine and reliable. Apparently it can be used in a live show to eliminate vocal feedback squeals, I've never tried that.

I was looking for a cheap an easy to use De-esser. I found the Behringer Suppressor an decided to test it. You just have to select the frequency and the Bandwith of the filter. There is an additional "keylisten" function that will help you to adjust the filter correctly. After adjusting the filter you can controll the level of de-essing or should i say "selected compressing" with an additional knob.

I used the unit in the inserts of my spirit mixer in combination with an compressor. You need high values on the intensity knob before the effect becomes usable results. So the unit reacts not only on the "sssss" it also reacts on loud plosives. When it's de-essing it produces a lot of additional noise. Normally you can't hear that, because the signal of the voice is much louder, but these noise is also noticeable on the plosives.... When the unit isn't processing any signal it's really quiet :-)
