Read the manual while I was awaiting delivery so I had a clue when I got it. The settings can be trickey in the beginning If you dont have the manual as a reference to set it up. The factory setting are Mono which threw me first. It can also be set for an effects loop (100%effect on) or in line i.e between mixer and power amp. The settings are adjustable through 4 tweak knobs under 2 settings giving a total of 8 settings per effect or 6 plus a bass trebble setting in many cases. Here again you may need to reference the abbreviations displayed with the first turn of each knob Any adjustments can be easily set into 1 of 100 memory positions by pushing one button

Sound Quality : 9
I found the thing was so quiet that I could get rid of the noise my effects loop amps caused by running it in line between mixer and power amp. I use my older alesis in the effects send for echo on certain mikes but use this one for overall sound. Sound quality is a superb 24 bit, which blows away all my old 16 bit boxes. Havent tried it in a guitar rack but its has guitar tube emulators and stuff that would sound real rich. The only thing that takes awhile getting used to is the delay between settings changes. Theres a few secons beteen the time you make a change and when it kicks in. Would be nice if this had a switch to shut it off giving it immediate change to settings which would also fix the midi footswitch time delay problem.

For what I use it for its great. Been the music business 40yrs.
Nothing comes close to its quality for the price. Wish I had a few more of these. Other than a time delay removal switch this is very fine for the price.

You need to read the manual to use this unit effectively - I've had it for about 2 years and still need to refresh my memory occationally.

Sound Quality : 7
For the price this is quite a nice unit. The reverbs and delays were better than I expected, but I didn't care for the distortion which seemed weak and puny. There is also a pitch bend which is pretty neat, although I couldn't get the bended pitch perfectly in-tune at the extremes even after using the cent adjustments.

Now, I did have a bit of a problem with noise (which I never completely solved). I was able to reduce my noise by bypassing the ground with an adaptor, but my unit still creates a noticable amount. When I can afford a better unit, I will probably replace this.

Reliability : 10
This unit has been incredibly reliable and consistent.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A - Never had a real problem.

Overall Rating : 8
I would not consider this unit "Professional" as it's name implies, but for the price it has a great reverb/delay (if you don't mind a little noise). I've applied it to the guitar, bass guitar, as well as vocals and with all applications the sound seemed enhanced.

Not bad, But I have used better. After about a week it comes together.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this as a studio master reverb and it is a beautiful thing. This thing will give you the sound! There is no doubt about it! But you must be patient and work the reverbs carefully, and don't overuse the processing. Mix a little dry, and you will be a hero! If you mix it too wet, it will sound like you know how to speak whale!

Reliability : 10
Behringer products are 100% reliable. I've never had one go bad on me and I've had plenty of them in my semi-professional studio. I do think you could gig on this product with little problem. I don't know if I would use it as a guitar effect, but I suppose it's possible. I am a guitar player, but this is not the rack unit I would choose to run with my guitar set-up. This thing was made for the studio.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use it.

I record all types of music . Use this unit on everything! Been playing for 35 years. I have acoustic and electric guitars, a full array of studio gear, and several Behringer units. I've been very happy with everything I've purchased from Behringer. From their rack devices to their guitar amplifiers, I have no complaints. They make quality merchandise for a very low price. I can have a client come into the studio, and say, "Man, I sound better than I've ever sounded before in my life! What did you do to my voice?" And my answer is always the same. "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you." Hey, man - does a good musician give away his secrets? Not a chance! If it was stolen, it'd have to be one heck of a thief to get into my place, and if he was persistant enough to actually make it into my studio, he deserves the Behringer. For $130 I'd just go out and get another one. What I love about this unit is its pristine, clear reverbs. Always giving recordings a professional polish! I have compared it to other products, and I've used many other products in the studio, but this one sounds just as good if not better than anything else, short of $3,000, and I don't know about you, but have you ever pondered how many times $130's go into $3,000? Let's just put it this way - I don't think I'll be running out of quality reverb sounds anytime soon in my studio! About the only thing I wish this thing had would be optical ins, and optical outs. Totally helps me make music that is worth listening to; never gets in the way! I guess there is nothing else I'd like to share, except maybe a cup of Tension Tamer tea, with a bowl of sticks and twigs cereal. Hey, man! I'm trying to learn how to calm down! It took me about twenty years to learn how to not crank the reverb knob! Peace.

"Preety easy to deal with, great reverbs right away, very clear. Editing is easiest. Maybe that's a reason for a low price: no big programming twists. Plus you can download a editor and work on a computer.

Sound Quality : 7
I'm using that in vocals, and I got a pretty good noise/signal ratio. Reverbs are real good, delays are good too, choruses are ok, as well as flangers. It sounds better than the average maybe due to the 24 bit processing. But (and a big BUT)the Vocal Distotion and the Vocoder sucks. Big time. I waqs very dissapointed, because I really needed the vocoder. Dissapointment.

Reliability : 9
I use it on the road, in a well protected rack. No problems so far. But I haven't abused it.

Customer Support : 9
Behringer has a great web support. Compared to other companies (most notably E-Mu/Ensoniq)they are as supportive as they can be.

Overall Rating : 6
We're a top 40 band, hard working. Since we work with a lot of sound contractors, I set up the vocals effects in a rack with the receivers and they spake MIDI with the sequencer. This is weird, but I plug the microfone at the input of the effect. It works just as good as the "normal"way. Now, the third BIG dissapointment(considering the Vocoder and Vocal distortion): It mutes the signal for a few crutial seconds when changing patches. Only after I bought I read that on the manual (yes, it's there. Not a Behringer fault)and if you need instant MIDI changes like I do, forget it. Maybe Behringer fix that, I don't know. But If you're going to use it as an overall reverb unit, it's great.

Ease of Use : 8
It has 32 effects (each with lots of variations), 100presets, 2 stereo in/out, 2 XLR in /out.

The manual is useful since it lacks a display where you see what you edit. But if you prefer to LISTEN to what you do- it shouldn't be much of a problem without one. Besides that, there is an useful editor for download on behringer.de

Some presets (like choruses, some flangers or pitch shifters are just too extreme to be useful- but that's just fine- you can erase them and replace them with your own sounds. (other machines have all excellent sounds as presets and you sometimes don't know what to erase)

Sound Quality : 7
Great reverbs (caution! easy to overuse), I use the echo a lot (wonderful and warm) the delays are good to . The vocooder is a bit disappointing (it's too cold and digital sounding, but I've heard worse..)
the chorus is better than average, the flanger is OK but the vocal distortion doesn't make me hot. I really wonder why they felt the need to throw that in since it really is way below standard.

the double stereo inputs are useful- I have one connected in the effects loop on my amp and the other one connected to my Fostex.

Reliability : 8
Yep- but it broke down once for me (that's why I don't give it a 10)but i've had it for a year and a half and used it daily without problem. They are solid things and usually they don't break easily. Behringer equals quality!

Customer Support : 10
Behringer is wonderful- I got problem with the jog wheel suddenly stopped working and they told me how to fix it. It was a bit tricky (I had to disassemble the unit completely) but it worked.
Seems like they listen to their customers.

Overall Rating : 8
It's a wonderful unit. And cheap- great value for the money. You really get a lot for your money- so if you're poor or simply just need another effect I really recommend this one.
Some effects are more useful than others (like on any other multi-effect) and it sounds great. Seems like the ultimate machine has not been made and definately not at this price. (Actually saves you enough money to buy another one)

You see that they didn't save the money on the sound- it only lacks the detailed display. It's a bit tricky to edit without the manual if you're not used to it because you don't see what you do. (yeah, it's written on top of it too- but if you installed the unit in a rack you don't see it)

Without the book you can use the factory presets and nothing else much.

With the book you can learn to save your own settings and tweak sounds more to your liking.

I would not call it easy to use. Also the adjustment numbers are wierd.Instead of 1-10 or 1-100, they appear as 1-32 or 1-64 or some junk like that.

Sound Quality : 3
I have used this in front and in the effects loop of a guitar. Through a P.A. system for vocals and a keyboard. Also a 4-track for reverb on vocals.

READ THIS !!! UNLESS MY UNIT IS DEFFECTIVE , THIS UNIT IS NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS SOME REVIEWERS CLAIM.

First , the delays are alright. Hardly noisy at all. But, they are not as easy to adjust as my DD5 boss pedal. Nor can I easily set them up as I like.

Second , I bought this unit mainly as a Reverb unit for a budget priced P.A. . The Reverbs sound different in each application. Live on vocals they can present a useable reverb. That is if you can stand a ever present digital noise whine. The whine/noise is even slighty there when the unit is in stand-by mode. Most of the noise is lost in a LIVE sound mix though. Me personally , I can hardly tolerate any noise. When the reverb is used on the four track , it to me is not very good at all. All the revebs become digital and cheap sounding. Also the noise/whine makes its sound like a joke to me.I've have attained a better reverb sound on tape using a Radioshack electronic Reverb unit and my DD5 together , with no digital noise.

Third the tremolo and rotary speaker sound decent for keyboard. They do have a slight noise on the sound though.

Fourth , I could only use the tremolo and delays on guitar with decent results. That is if you want to take a decent tube amp and hiss it up with the crappy digital hiss noise this thing makes.

Reliability : 9
Well , the thing works. Though I can't remember the last time I have turned it on. Unless you get drop it or get mad and throw it out of your jam room , it will probably , for better or worse , last a while.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Maybe I should call them and ask if they all have digital noise.

Overall Rating : 4
I've been playing a while. I know when something sounds good or something sounds terrible.I personally would not recommend it.LIVE The Reverbs would sound useable to me , without the noise. On tape they do not sound good at all. Unless you want to sound like a robot in a cave made of steel.

For the price of 135 it might work for you. I would rather have invested the money in a higher quality unit, or another brand. I can not live with the noise which makes it sound like the 135 dollars I paid for it.When I told my friend who is a long time player I bought it, he right off the bat said I should have gotten the lexicon unit for a little more. I thought , it has more user presets and no old fashion knobs to turn . I'm thinking he was right now.

Not to be arse like some people who go on about all the gear they have...I own about 4000 dollars of decent equipment , and of all my gear this is my least favorite and most regretted buy. This will be traded in sooner or later and replaced. It is possible mine is defective or that everyone else is too deaf to hear the noise.

Right out of the box...plug it in and pick your preset effect from the front panel, and play. Editing your effect can take a little getting used to. There are no dedicated handles, just a rotary encoder and select buttons. Makes it a bit time consuming during LIVE, but thats why they make user presets. Overall, a really nice box. I have two.

Sound Quality : 9
These units are part of my effects rack for S.R. Cleaner than Alesis gear (less noise). Audio from this guy is always well defined. Really nice verbs and echos.

Generally SR Christian Priase and Worship. This piece fits well. I also have a Yamaha Rev that use along with these. Hard to beat the Yamaha butI would buy more Virtualizers if I needed more than two.

It's easy to use.
The standard effects are quite overdone. But they can be editted very easy, and than you have a great sound.
You DO HAVE TO READ THE MANUAL. If not, you cannot cope with it.

Sound Quality : 8
The soundquality is great (for such price!)
No noise.
I'm using it for remixing. Especially for adding reverb or special effects to vocal recordings. It works great here (again: not the presets).

Reliability : 7
The first model I bought, broke within 3 days.
Probably due to the electronics of the jogwheel.

The second one is great.

Customer Support : 9
The first model was replaced immediately in the store. Great service (from the store). But they must have backup from Behringer for this service.

Overall Rating : 8
For remixing I do also use a Zoom 1202 Studio. Quite some noise here.
It will be replaced by a Lexicon MPX500.
The Behringer allthough won't be replaced later.

For this budget-price, it can't be beaten.

The store clerk who sold me this said this unit was difficult to use.
I don't know why he said that, because it seemed very easy for me to use it after reading the manual for 10mins. Nothing tricky at all!

Sound Quality : 10
I use it thru effect loop of Peavey 5150 head.
I've never heard of this company and this product, but I was surprised by it's sound quality and the price.
I bought it strictly for reverb since 5150 has no reverb.
But I find all the effects decent and chorus makes 5150's lifeless clean sound much better.
This unit is kinda noisy, I guess it's also with the fact 5150 effect loop gets noisy. But it doesn't bother me much, using a noisegate will solve the problem.

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know, I'll have to see.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I find all the effects very good to use with both clean, overdrive channels.
I was also looking into Lexicon MPX100. But I thought there wasn't much difference in sound quality and it was over $200. Also it only had like 15 user sets when this unit has 100! I don't even need 100 sets but I definitely need more than 15.
I love this gear, $100 I'd never regret spending.
I find Beheringer DSP1000P SO good for the money and recommand it to people in low budget.

A cinch to operate. Turn it on. Of the bat, 100 presets are available, and most are excellent. Obviously with any digital product there is SOME learning curve to tweak each setting as desired, but controls make sense, and are quick. As with all Behringer products, manuals are precise, humorous, and available in PDF format online. Additionally, there is a KILLER program available to download at Behringer's website that lets control control and edit the Virtualizer from your PC using midi in/outs. Very cool.

Sound Quality : 9
Using the send & returns on my Behringer MX1602A Mixer for channels 1 & 2 (the DSP 1000P has TWO independent processors in unlinked mode) to mainly do home hard disk recording w/ real drums, a Les Paul "The Paul" guitar, various shakers and congas using dynamic and condenser mics. I absolutely love the reverbs, flanger, and chorus. Extremely high quality, most f/x have little or no noise. DO NOT buy this unit for guitar distortion-there is basically one (setting: vocal distortion) which sounds very thin and crappy on guitars. IMHO, the best use for this unit for sweetening vocals and reverbing guitars/ drums/ percussion. I got exactly what I wanted with this unit, ESPECIALLY FOR ONLY $109.00 NEW!!!

Reliability : 10
Just got it two weeks ago. Rackmounted, solidly built. Would last a long time in your rack. Perfectly dependable so far.

The only customer support I know is the great website for each Behringer product. Check it out. I did a hundred times before I bought my Behinger mixer used on eBay and the Virtualizer Pro new from online retailer.

I play alternative rock, classic rock, and generally experiment with lots of different music. Have been playing drums for 10 years, guitar for two. I'm a pretty much a freak for clean sounds and bought this unit for its great reviews in this forum, and it's dirt-cheap price. I'm extremely happy I did.

I use this with a Spirit desk on a variety of (mainly analog) synths and drum machines. Noise levels are very low, except on the F/X that are by nature always a bit noisy (ie Flanger etc). Reverbs are not particularily strong, as on most multi-fx boxes and i do not like the Chorus at all.

ambient/house/trance/pop. i think it's a good all-round appliance for most styles. Years and years of playing and collecting stuff begins to take shape in a small home studio to which the DSP1000P is a very welcome high-quality addition at an incredibly low price. It's much better than the Zoom 1202 i also own and compares very well to the Lexicon MPX500 i also comsidered (at twice the price...)
